Go get Tadlock and give him a rock star GM so he can focus on baseball. Dude is a winner and has done his duty in Lubbock. Time to come to the big time.

No. Also Tadlock is a Red Raider for life. He ain't leaving Lubbock unless they let him go.

That's fair assuming your top 3-5 is guys like Sully, Bakich, O'Connor, etc. I would agree those would be better hires, I just don't know how realistic anyone at that level would be.

I don't personally know if Vaughn would be interested, but due to his background he seems like one of the best combos of skins on the wall/potential/attainability.

Bama has had a pretty mediocre season. Would be underwhelming IMO.
Second year coach who will have his team hosting in all likelihood. Bama had a really poor run on Mitch Gaspard, then Bohannon was forced out in a gambling scandal, which saw a lot of players leave. He's doing better in his second year at Bama than Schloss did in his second year at A&M.

I think we might shoot higher, but he's not a bad fail safe.

1)Brain O Connor (at least make him say no, I wanted him last June)

2)Wes Johnson (after seeing his interview, he may be interested in other jobs including ours, probably going to Cowbell though IMO)

3)Sully (Has a good reputation going at UF)

4)Skip Johnson (proven HC with success at OU, he kicked our azzes in Omaha a couple years ago)

5)Heefner (Has done more with less as well as anyone else in the country at DBU)

Both Skip and Heefner know Texas recruiting well.

I hope we go with a younger guy, or Schloss at TCU equivalent (but I don't think the latter exists).

The way UVA has had a similar season to us being on the bubble after being #2 I don't think would be a good call. Wes is a good call but I agree he's likely Starkville bound. Sully I doubt is leaving Gainsville. I wouldn't be upset though if he does. Skip Johnson was on my list last year but I get the sense is a Chris Beard in that he used us for leverage with OU and that left a bad taste in my mouth but still in my top 5. Heefner is also on there but I get the sense he is obnoxiously Baptist and DBU is a mission field for him. The one thing I want is someone who can also recruit the west coast. We need Cali and Texas talent to win a Natty.

I would suspect that if they do move on from Earley that A&M doesn't make a splash hire. Some of the names mentioned here didn't seem interested a year ago. Wouldn't be surprised to see Trev go mid major route and a guy like Matlock or Wallis get the call

Last year and this years situations are polar opposites

If Vaughn is offered the job he will take it. His dad played Baseball at A&M. Would be his dream job.

UF has roughly the same record as us.
If you don't like/want Sully due to his baggage OK but because they had a rough start to their conference season, one in which they have largely turned the corner on? You do realize he averages going to Omaha about every other season? That he has won a Natty with two other appearances in the Championship Series? Even elite coaches have suboptimal seasons but Sully has often shown to make the best of these, see last year. It would not surprise me if makes another deep postseason run this year.
The Sully play comes down to his divorce situation and if he's ready for a change of scenery. Otherwise you aren't getting him out of Gainesville, just a raise.

Sully took them to the World Series last two seasons and they just won a series at Texas and have won the past 10 out of 14 or so. He ain't going anywhere.

I always thought Sully was a grump and somewhat of an Ahole but he would be a massive upgrade from Early.

He would be an upgrade over every coach mentioned on this thread. He isn't switching schools.

O'Sullivan hasn't made lots of moves. He helped coach at Clemson or coached there I think years ago but he has made it clear with new contract etc etc he's happy at Florida and his family loves Gainesville. He's been there for a while and there's no sign of unhappiness with the ad etc. Also I'm sure Sully is plugged into the situations with the various sec ad's. The new baseball stadium wasn't due to the football coach.

Vaughn, literally, with an offer from A&M, chose to play ball at KState.

Not sure why people keep acting like this is his dream job.

Decisions like that aren't made in a vacuum. Scholarship allocation, playing time, position options, the coaching staff relationship, etc. Could be any number of things.

He did not say in what capacity. It will not be head baseball coach at A&M though.

Did you hear what he said on the radio today. That he did not know how to get the players to do what's he's coaching them.

So he basically said out loud that his coaching is ineffective.

Now we kind of had figured that one out on our own but thanks for removing all doubt.

While this is all true, the same could be said about why or why not a coach might stay at his current position versus opting for a new one. One has to think that sippie at least talked to POS in 2016 about moving to Austin when Augie "retired" yet for whatever reasons he was not ready to leave TCU at that time. In other words, while Vaughn might feel a connection to A&M, it might not be enough to pull him away from what he has started to build at Bama.

Vaughn might be great and he would a huge upgrade from current coach but I feel like we may be over rating him because they swept us early in the season - they are going to be a few games above .500 in sec play and need to see his team get beyond regionals before we anoint him as a can't miss coach

A few games above .500 in SEC play means you're hosting a regional or a very high 2 seed most years.

He grew up going to A&M games at Olse, & Kyle. Seems pretty likely he'd really like this job on a personal level. He was quite complimentary of the fanbase as he grew up in it. I dont know if his dad cosched here but he certainly played here. Vaughn is also from Humble.

"Can't miss coach"

Who exactly is that one who is actually attainable.

The few can't miss coaches noted on this thread are not.

The obvious can't miss coaches only jump for their own personal reasons bc schools don't let them unless that one's involved.

A solid coach will win here very quickly and do better than they did at other places. Schloss did better here than he did at TCU. Do you not think Vaughn would do even better here than at Bama? And no I'm not saying he's Schloss. Just he should have even better results here.
