As usual, thanks for the report from Davis.
I mention often how many free bases we usually give up but was impressed tonight - only one BB and one HBP. Both by Sidne but she also had 10 SO's to make up for it. Was really impressed with Lessentine - she did her part with 58 strikes in 65 total pitches. If I remember correctly (I have not gone through the play-by-play to check) she got ahead of all but one hitter - fantastic. Really fanstastic.
A ton of really hard hit balls tonight. HR's from returners and new players. All very promising.
Defense was a wee bit shaky a few times (three errors) but I put it down to 'first game jitters'. Also a few boo boos with base running. But it was the first games of the season and will get worked out, I am sure of it.
Ariel (aka AK) showed us that she has an arm (from the OF).
Overall, I think a very good Opening Day that answered several questions.
Anyway, a few notes thanks to Tyler Pounds ...
- Texas A&M belted six home runs totaling 1,438 feet while batting .468.
- The Aggie pitching staff held opposing teams to a .081 batting average, going 3 for 37, while registering 19 strikeouts and allowing one walk.
- The Aggies are 39-5 in season openers since 1983, including wins in 14 straight.
- Sydney Lessentine allowed one hit in her 12th career start, while Sidne Peters registered her third complete game in her 12th career start.
- Taylor Pannell made her Aggie debut, striking out two batters in 1.0 inning of work.
- Senior Kennedy Powell stole a base in each game to extend her consecutive stolen base streak to 27 attempts.
- Oklahoma State transfer Micaela Wark homered in both games, marking the 30th and 31st home runs of her career.
- Mya Perez homered in both games for the 18th and 19th long balls of her career. It marked the third time she has homered in each game of a doubleheader, also accomplishing the feat last season against - Florida A&M in Tallahassee and at Georgia.
- Sophomore Paislie Allen homered in her first at-bat as an Aggie, the second home run of her career.
- Tallen Edwards shined in her Aggie debut going 3 for 4, 2 2B, 2 BB, 2 R, 1 RBI.
- Freshman Annsley Groce stole a base in her first collegiate game.
