pretty sure the cable was blown back with all of the troops right before they took off. Need to watch again though to verify.

The cops blocked the road to make room for the tanks. When the bus driver saw Godzilla, he said **** it and hit the gas.

I thought he was referring the part where the bus had to stop due to the down cable, then took off again.

The whole bus thing was headache inducing

Yea the cable. It didn't seem like anything dislodged the obstruction.

IIRC, there were two things blocking the way: the cable, and an M-1 Abrams. When the tank repositioned, the bus driver took off.

He stopped for the cable then swerved around it.

In any case, it's stupid that the police trapped civilians on the bridge to begin with. Just made it a sticky situation.

I figured the cops were trained in Houston because that's how they generally operate at accident scenes.

The EMP, Nuke by train, then by helo, then set the timer IN THE CITY thing did annoy me a bit.

But me, my 13 and 11yr old boys loved it otherwise.

Saw it this weekend, went in expecting a monster movie blockbuster and got it.

The English Patient and Breaking Bad both die which I liked because I didn't like their characters. Letters from Iwo Jima lived to explain another Godzilla appearance which I loved because I liked his character. Heck, I even appreciated the Bourne Legacy dude and all his gigantic mistakes with the boat and the nuke.

Kickass (with all his flaws) still appealed to me. He sold the soulful eyes better than Frodo when he spent 1/2 of a movie walking up a volcano to throw away that durn ring.

I also liked that it was San Franscisco that was wasted instead of New York or Toyoko.

It is the stupid little things taking up precious fight time in the movie that bugged me.

I was kinda hoping Godzilla would take that megaton to the face. Then as the clouds and dust are setlling you see him walking away unphased in a manner similar to the end of Godzilla vs Destroyah. It seemed like the conclusion they were building up to would be the monsters getting nuked and surviving, thus justifying the doctor's fears. It just didn't play out that way

So can someone explain a little bit better to me how they survive. I get the beginning that the Earth was radioactive and they feed off the radiation and that is why they got big and have super powers. But if that is the case, why do they have mouths and such if they don't really eat anything but absorb radiation? Further, the female hardly touched any of the radioactive material for free grabs at the mountain, but all of a sudden is going to go after nukes that aren't that radioactive, especially when they haven't blown up? Maybe my brain thunk too much but as really a first time Godzilla movie watcher I left more confused then impressed.

I really enjoyed it and found myself pissed at the double-team on godzilla. was glad he kicked ass at one point. shoulda brought the white radiation fire on sooner.

Also love the part with the second "mothra-like" characters head off. his roar was like "suck it *****es!" loved it.

he's definitely a sort of good guy.

Took my daughters to see it this weekend and thought it was a perfect "monsters fighting each other blowing things up" type of movie.

The only thing I didn't understand was this entire scene:

1.) Why did they HALO into San Fran? No reason to HALO into a city filled with skyscrapers, in the middle of a thunderstorm when the monsters don't seem to care about individual humans unless you provoke them.

2.) Why were they wearing red flares during the jump? Terrible idea!

3.) When did the EOD guy get HALO qualified? It wasn't on his deployment!

Minor issues, I know...and probably done with the "awesome" factor in mind, because it looked pretty sick.

I saw it yesterday.

I have to share the sentiments that it was very Steven Spielberg like - particularly the 1999 scenes. The movie opens with the scene from Jurassic Park when they arrive at the island via the exact same helicopter. The entire Philippines scene really set up a nice background, but I wish they would have highlighted Watanabe even more as a main character.

There definitely were a few movie magic moments (nuke being carried by a couple guys from the center of SF to the pier in 20 minutes, then cleared from the city in 5 minutes). But, Gozilla was cool, and I had no idea there were going to be other monsters. When the Muto pops out of the cacoon, I was actually very happy that it mean this won't be a quick one hour 30 minute movie.

ATJ didn't suck that much for me. I liked that they gave him a military background, and that they didn't make the government or military the badguys for once in modern movie history. Sure they could have made the military a bit smarter - i.e. why not drop the bomb from the same plane the paratroopers haloed out of? - but again, there needs to be some movie magic to progress the plot.

I thought they were planning on taking the bomb 20 miles out, they armed it with a timer 1h30m,. so it was running, but instead of it detonating away, the MUTO intercepted it and took it downtown, thus the need to disarm it.

If they couldn't disarm it on site, they needed to get it to the pier.

Yeah but why arm it in the city. Take it 20 miles out THEN arm it.
israeliag

Or put it on a plane that can fly outside of the sphere of influence of the Muto, and drop it by parachute.

Also, I really like David Strathairn's admiral. He wanted to trust Ken Watanabe, but he just had to make a more calculated decision and take a different option. This wasn't an authoritarian leader who ignored any and all recommendations. It was as much Watanabe's fault for not convincing the admiral to follow a different plan, than it was the admiral's.

It's a Godzilla movie. It's going to have inconsistencies and require the suspension of disbelief. Just enjoy it for what it is. I was skeptical, and noticed all the same plot flaws, but still allowed myself to enjoy it, and really did. I thought there were some quite creative elements to the story.

I want to point out something (maybe already mentioned on this thread but still worth noting):

I give great credit for the marketing team at Warner Brothers for keeping a secret (in the trailers and commercials) that there are two other monsters in this movie that Godzilla fights. They simply marketed this as "Godzilla stomps on cities."

Other movie studios would probably have splashed the epic battles between the creatures all over the previews. If you were just an average moviegoer (who didn't track down every clip on the internet) and just went to see this based on the trailers, you would be saying "What the hell are those things??"

I knew he fought other creatures, but I avoided the clips released online and my first clear look at the MUTO's was sitting in the theater.
Philip J Fry

Probably because they didn't have all that much fight footage to use in a trailer to begin with.

Just got back from the theater.

I enjoyed the beginning of the movie and the end. But the middle was full of stupid crap.

******** POSSIBLE SPOILERS **************

Why the heck would you put ICBMs on a train if you are trying to get them to San Fran before the monsters?!?!
And then you spend all the time, effort, and lives to get the bomb to the creatures, only to send in a strike team to disarm it? I mean, I know it was in the city that still had people in it, but if you truly think the nuke is your only option then you are basically surrendering by disarming it.

Lucky for the military, the doctor guy was right and Godzilla exterminated the MUTOs.

No one in this movie had a healthy respect/fear of being in proximity of Godzilla. You have an entire fleet within several hundred yards of a moving Godzilla? You take your chopper to within 50 feet of the monsters while they're fighting?!?!

Gahhhhh stuff like that really annoyed me. lol.

********** END POSSIBLE SPOILERS *************

On the whole, I was disappointed with the movie. Did not live up to the hype. But there were some very enjoyable moments (Bryan Cranston's scenes and the monster fights, to name a couple).

Any other medical people pick up on this: he's going into A-fib. Get him some epinephrine and vasopressin.

No wonder he died

Yeah, an ICBM is an inter-continental ballistic missile. We can launch them into orbit and deliver them wherever we want. If you're worried about the MUTO's EMP, just fire 4 or 5 a few minutes apart and they won't all get knocked out by the EMP.

The whole train transportation thing was just a giant plot-moving device. If we really needed to nuke San Fran, the missile wouldn't arrive by train.

Sounds like, in addition to an electrical engineer, they probably should have employed a doctor. I dont understand how writers can write a scene (or a whole movie like the EMP stuff) and just write what they think is correct without ever checking with someone. It would take 5 minutes to check this with any doctor, but instead they just throw in some medical sounding words and think "eh, that will do." yes, its a minor gripe, but its still completely avoidable, and in the case of the EMP, it completely ruins the entire plot of the movie if you know anything at all about electronics.

I saw it with my nuclear engineer buddy. They screwed up some stuff at the power plant in the beginning too. That steam would have cooked them in their suits almost instantly. No way they could still be knocking on the door.

That's easy artistic license stuff, though. Things like the names of meds are just weird because it's just as easy to get it right.

But I think Alias hit it on the head - they could have taken 5 seconds to get it right instead of being lazy and just writing something out of their ass.

100% agree. I almost walked out mid-movie, but did actually want to see some giant monsters fighting so I didn't...just wish they would've cut out 30-45 minutes of the boring crap in the middle part of the film
