The Jeepers Creepers crack was a joke. But you got to admit that Cranston could have picked any white male role that wasn't Santa Clause (and maybe him too).
But it's not like
Godzilla is the
only movie he can do - or has done - post-
Breaking Bad. He already had an indie release in January with Alice Eve called
Cold Comes the Night. He's wrapped a comedy called
Get a Job with Alison Brie, Anna Kendrick, and Miles Teller that comes out later this year. He's voicing a character in
Kung Fu Panda 3. And he just signed to star in
Holland, Michigan, which was the voted the top unproduced script of 2013, and will likely be some kind of Oscar fair. So it looks like he's doing a little bit of
everything - including a giant blockbuster - which is what most of the great actors do.
Godzilla is just one part of the picture. And if I were one of the most popular actors in town, coming off one of the most popular shows ever, and I had to check "summer blockbuster" off my list, out of what he had to choose from,
Godzilla was easily the best choice, as far as summer 2014 tentpoles go. He has to bring in that big paycheck somehow, so he can afford to do the smaller, more Oscar-friendly stuff, which is exactly what he's doing.
