The EMP thing is inexcusable. I meant to include that in my earlier rant on this thread. How in the hell did nobody know that EMP fries electronics, and does not just turn things off? Even I know that just from watching movies, reading books, and playing video games.

That's not a nitpicky complaint at all. It was one of the premises of the whole movie. This is one of the worst writing jobs in the history of film.

It's a biological electrical pulse from a unique organism. It isn't necessarily a standard EMP.

Really? Because that's not what it said in the movie. It literally said in the movie it was "EMP."

Although, your line of reasoning would certainly explain a lot. Perhaps the writers told us exactly what things were, but meant for us to assume they were other things. If we go down this road, the possibilities are endless...

Perhaps the "EMP" that should have fried every electronic circuit for miles was actually a "biological electrical pulse from a unique organism."

Perhaps the "nuclear missile" that exploded 5 minutes off the coast of California and should have devastated the entire state was actually a "special secret bomb that only hurts monsters and not other things."

Perhaps this "hit summer blockbuster" was actually meant to be "a massive pile of dog crap."

Perhaps the "writers" of this "movie" were actually "unpaid summer interns from Los Angeles Community College."

It's all starting to make sense now...

Perhaps you need a vacation. No movie is worth the stress you're inflicting on yourself.

I think I would have liked the movie more had Cranston not been in it. Him being in the movie made me think I would get solid acting throughout. Take him out and I probably don't notice a drop off in acting early in the movie.

Overall, just okay. The great/fun parts didn't make up for the bad parts.

I would say Sound Awake is very attached to the classic movies that were richly plotted and beautifully acted, but we are talking about Godzilla.

Very true. Although, if he hadn't been in it, I wouldn't have gone to see it...which I'm sure was exactly the reason they got him for a limited role.

I noticed the A Fib flub as well. Told my wife I think they meant "V fib" haha

Loved the movie though- the last death sequence was just awesome!

I really liked it. I can get over the scientific inaccuracies. It is Godzilla after all.... without Matthew Broderick.

I agree. I'm pretty sure they meant V-Fib as well. Otherwise, synchronized cardioversion and amiodarone/ibutilide that ****.

I get everything people are saying, but I don't care because Godzilla busted out the greatest Mortal Kombat fatality move of all time.

I finally saw it and it was awesome. I got a lil frustrated at all the fight scene teases but at the end it was all worth it. Good guy Godzilla was epic

Am I the only one that doesn't go into a movie, especially a reboot of Godzilla, expecting it to be %100 scientifically and factually accurate? Im asking because sound awake's perspective is something ive seen before but not in such an extreme way. I get that realism and scientific accuracy helps immersion, but I typically dont have a problem with that aspect. The simple fact that a giant fire breathing lizard is the main focus tells me I shouldn't expect the movie to exactly mimic real life. Maybe its just me.

Or go into Pacific Rim or Transformers and expect an actual human story or sound plot construction when the movies are inherently about massive robot v monster/robot v robot carnage???

Exactly. Those people probably also get pissed in Star Wars when the space battles aren't silent.

Just got back from seeing this and liked it enough to not regret spending $7.50 and giving up a Saturday afternoon.

Oh, and Godzilla and the Mutos were badass.

If I said that lucid dreams take place in real time (they do) would that take points off Inception? Of course not

Except he isn't the main focus of the movie. Some ****** bag who knows the inner workings of an analog nuclear bomb is.

And? The movie is called Godzilla, not Son of a Vengeful Widower in a Scientifically Accurate World. Suspension of disbelief should be a prerequisite.

I'd give it about a 7/10 up until Bryan Cranston died, at which point it promptly dove to about a 3/10 for the rest of the movie, at best. Poor writing, poor acting, poor pacing, pretty much poor everything save for Cranston, who was outstanding as usual in his limited role.

Sums up my thoughts.

It was pretty good the 20 minutes Cranston was in there. Then it was terrible all around. I had very low expectations, and pretty much just wanted to see a cool monster movie...but it was dumb dumb dumb.

-Why the heck was Watanabe's wind-up pocket watch frozen by Hiroshima???? THATS NOT HOW EMP WORKS!

Not only that, but he said it was his fathers' watch. He didnt look 70+ years old. Not sure how his father could have died in Hiroshima.

When he said, 'They call him.......GOZIRRA!" the entire theater laughed...

Cranston didn't ruin his career with this movie. I assume he took the role when he realized he would die early on. That makes his role more like Marlon Brando in Superman than Charlton Heston in Airport 1975.

Some engineering points I have not seen discussed yet:

1) If one cable is severed on the golden gate bridge, then the whole thing would come down in seconds.

2) Nuclear warheads don't need to remain attached to the missiles.

The original Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1956), the Americanized cut of the Japanese film Gojira, will be shown at 7 tonight as part of TCM Essentials, Jr series. Actually not a bad flick.

Actually, Netflix has the Americanized version (not nearly as controversial as the original Japanese version since they cut out most of the nuclear testing commentary) and a bunch of the really campy flicks from the 60s on available right now.
