Phil isn't cold like Elizabeth, but he as a lot of blood on his hands.

I always think back to the first episode. Didn't Phillip want to become a source for FBI for a big payday? Seems that he isn't fully on board with what KGB does.

I wonder if Paige's barroom display could be the catalyst to bring down the Jennings? She used pretty sophisticated fighting skills to beat up a congressional intern that really didn't do anything to her. He may bring up that up to someone and that could start a chain of events that leads to surveillance on Paige.

It would make sense for Paige to be the one that effs the family over.

I would love that

That wasn't the intern. That was some random dude.

If Phillip turned in Elizabeth, he would be arrested alongside of her. I think it is more likely that Phillip kills Elizabeth.

The only issue I have with the show at the moment, is that they wouldn't waste an asset like Philip and Elizabeth to go kill people. Any thug can do that. Phillip and Elizabeth have the extremely rare quality of having no accent and being able to blend in without detection. That quality is too valuable to risk on tasks that do not require it.

Sorry, State Department intern, not Congressional. She punched him after she took care of the drunk.

It wasn't the intern. Congressional, State, or otherwise. It was some rando and his buddy.

...except that isn't as good of a TV show.

Given all the crimes he's committed at this point, there's pretty much no scenario in which Phillip could realistically flip on Elizabeth in exchange for any type of immunity, correct? Assuming the answer is no, then it likely means what other posters have already speculated: they're gonna get pitted against each other, and one is going to kill the other.

The one thing I can't get out of my head is that Russian couple from a few seasons ago who got murdered in their hotel room. Didn't it turn out that the Center ordered their own kid to do it? If so, I could see them going back to that well and convincing Paige that she has to kill Phillip since he won't let Elizabeth get that close any more. Maybe he tries to talk her out of it and convince her that Elizabeth is really her enemy, thus leaving her with an impossible choice of which of her own parents she has to murder to save the other?

I think I would be disappointed if that was how it went down. Hoping for one of them to get caught red handed or given up by amother Russian. Would be something vindictive if Margo Martindale's character gave Elizabeth up to save her own skin, or was already acting as a double agent.

They're setting up Paige to get busted as she's playing with fire and taking risks that she either doesn't realize she shouldn't be or those in which she's flat out defying Elizabeth.

The people working with Elizabeth and Paige durimg their surveillance runs are all a network of sympathetic Americans who Elizabeth has recruited, right? I guess what i am getting at is that the one older woman has seen Paige perform mediocre work for a while. Does she have any ability to go above Elizabeth to report Paige? Could we somehow see the Centre send another undercover pair like phillip/Elizabeth to take out Paige? Would that be enough to turn Elizabeth against the commies?

This episode moved the ball at a tremendous pace and it doesn't actually feel rushed or haphazard.

How many episodes are left in this thing.

By the way, spies doing spy **** is always awesome.

Yep great spycraft episode. It was always going to unravel at a breakneck speed - it always happens that way. Small break and the thread just keeps unraveling.

the cars and utilities and priests...interesting stuff to track. Do they end up getting a look at Elizabeth or maybe even a pic in disguise???? Do they find their storage unit or cars, do they find their safehouse, do they talk to the priest (ruh roh)?

Poor Phillip like the Godfather: every time he tries to get out... they pull him back in. gotta save the womenfolk (lol). Man has their relationship deteriorated....and no comment of the Philip/Paige smackdown. Hmmmm.....

BTW - worst T-giving toast ever???? at least the most uncomfortable for a few. Reminded me just a little of a very uncomfortable dinner at the White residence with Walt and Skyler and Jesse.

Yeah, we almost seemed to get it in the preview with Stan looking at the family picture (or creative editing that made it appear like that's what may be happening). Either way, it's definitely on the way

Philip rushing to help Elizabeth after being so distance from the job seems very unusual and may be a red flag.

The scenes for next week seem to set up a confrontation with Philip and Stan. I wonder if all that is a flashback and he's already turned. He's already confessed and is helping out the FBI now.

Ok, highly impossible I know......

or the heat gets burning hot, and the Russians have Paige turn in or kill her parents, and she goes on to spy as the next generation.

we saw the earlier scene where Paige saw what her mom had to do for the job (when killing the general)....

So to prove herself and her dedication....

Yeah sometimes the teasers for next episode are edited in ways to make it seem like crazier things are happening, but it's hard to imagine how the scenes with Philip and Stan don't signal a seismic shift.

I always enjoyed Henry playing the doofus or oblivious younger child foil to Paige, but this episode was pretty great for him too. He basically dresses down Philip for poor business practice, and pretty cutting about his relationship with Elizabeth.

Philip and Elizabeth's fight to begin the episode was nails as well. Philip basically calling her out for seducing him into committing to it, and Elizabeth going right to the 'you just wanted to screw her' line, lots of real venom between these two.

Yeah, that conversation between Phillip and Stan next week can easily be Stan saying to Phillip that he senses marital problems in the Jennings household, and Phillip creating a ruse on the fly where he is reluctantly admitting to their marital problems after hiding it from Stan for a long period of time.

agreed

had a lot of leadup with Henry giving info to Stan...which would get him concerned. But you don't lead off an interrogation with "your my friend you can trust me".

and the voiceover about a woman while showing Elizabeth doing stuff does not mean they are close to her.

the only one that is really concerning is Stan obviously in their garage and apparently looking at the electrical panel - although that could be different scenes. Could be in their garage to talk to Philip and later in a rental storage unit they are investigating and looking at the electrical panel there. we shall see.

Right before offering to join Elizabeth, Phillip sent an encoded message to Oleg. He's not going to Chicago merely to help out Elizabeth, he's going there to regain her trust and to find out what she is up to on their behalf of Oleg. There is no better mission to do that with than the rescue of that Chicago illegal. It probably won't involve killing anybody, and besides if Elizabeth gets caught, then Phillip gets exposed too. So he has plenty of reasons to help out.

Looks like we are down to 4 episodes left. According to imdb they are named

Harvest
The summit
Jennings, Elizabeth
Start

Based on the names I would suspect things Chicago get wrapped up next week with a lead back to the dc illegals, everything comes to a head during the summit and the levies break during episode 9.

Start obviously has a couple of different meanings in this show context so that is a fitting end title.

It's actually titled START all caps. So it's the acronym for the 80s US-Russian missile treaty that was negotiated throughout the 80s really. But may have other meanings as well.

and the name one is interesting the way it is Jennings, Elizabeth that has certain connotations.

73 8 "The Summit"[76]

74 9 "Jennings, Elizabeth"[77]

75 10 "START"[78]

Long has been the Director for the season finale the last 2 seasons and the season opener the last 2 seasons plus a few others.

Fields and Weisberg of course are the longterm main writers.

Hence my comment that start has a couple of different meanings in this shoe context. It will probably be both the agreement, the start of the end of Soviets and the start of the survivors new lives.

Yes I was not educating you but perhaps others if they did not know what it was especially written out as Start and not START.

With Elizabeth orphan-ing the Russian boy playing a significant part in the plot, there are enough hints at Aderholt's fatherhood that I'm very worried for his future. I'd be shocked if both Jennings and Stan make it through the finale alive, but if by some miracle they all do, there is no way Aderholt joins them.
