Sounds like HBO Max only. They go out of their way to specify when it's the actual HBO brand, which is different from the HBO Max brand. Confusing, I know, which is why I still can't believe they didn't name it "Warner Max" and call it day. One of the dumbest and most confusing marketing decisions I can remember, and one of the reasons Warner Media recently fired the guys who launched/ran it.

Honestly I think it's just because HBO is more of a "prestige" brand name.
Agreed, but it's caused endless confusion. And I'd argue that the "Warner" brand name is more popular/well known.
Not to mention potential confusion between Max and Cinemax.
Having the balls to do what Disney wouldn't.
So they'll take a half billion dollar write-off at the box office, but somehow that can't cut a deal with Roku?

This. If the biggest-ever streaming title to date isn't released in 4K, when Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and Disney+ have been releasing all of their new content in 4K for years - never mind nearly every new movie being available in 4K across all of VOD - HBO Max will have sh*t the bed yet again. This entire WW84 play is to help close the gap between HBO Max and the big boys, but if they still can't do something as simple as having the same, basic quality standards, they don't deserve to be in the conversation.

Wow was considering hbo max to watch Wonder Woman but not so much if there is no 4K or I'm assuming any HDR support?

But SURELY they have it ready but the time WW84 hits, if only for *just* that movie alone. I can't imagine the biggest streaming title by a landslide not releasing in 4K, when nearly every other new movie has for a couple years now.

I get that 4K is the standard now, and they should be striving for it. But practically speaking, does it really matter? Can people really tell a difference between 4K and 1080P? Maybe they can. But I watched Mandalorian on my new LG the other day and switched between the two; I couldn't really see a difference.TCTTS said:

I can definitely tell a difference, especially if it's in HDR, but I understand if others don't care as much.
HDR probably more important than 4K....
They must have been reading us *****ing about this on TexAgs.
Good news though, would have been ridiculous watching that in 1080p and hopefully this is just the start of a full conversion to 4K.

I still have every intention of seeing this on the big screen, even though I have HBO Max.
Anyone have issues with the app being sluggish and generally poorly laid out? Reminds me of the Hulu app - difficult to tell what's highlighted as well as search for things.

Yes! I thought it was my internet as it can be spotty at times. But everything on hbomax(fire stick) has had moments of blurry and three dot loading.
Find the biggest screen you can - just make sure something besides a Roku is connected to it!

I think HBO Max is hands down the worst of the streaming services when it comes to functionality
Hulu's live tv interface is the worst I've seen
