Nope. This version never had Beast Boy on it, and the actors for Chief and Negative Man are completely different. The Titans episode was sort of a back door pilot, but they're in their own universe. When CW did Crisis on Infinite Earths they also gave them two different Earth number designations.

Oh ok. I didn't know about either group when I watched that crossover.

I do wish they were in the same universe, though, and Brenton Thwaites' Robin/Nightwing would be a perfect fit for Affleck's Batman.

I fell asleep about 45 minutes in to the movie (HBO max). I thought it was just OK up to that point. I haven't fallen asleep during a movie in many years.

Edit: I rewatched it this afternoon. That was f'n terrible.

Really enjoyed it. Thought Gunn did a really good job bringing over what works in GOTG without just making it Guardians of the DCEU.

Some really funny writing, especially between Elba and Cena, the Milton scene was fantastic, but I think Gunn really flexed some good visual comedy in this one. Very Edgar Wright-esque at times (the campground killing, the Scott Pilgrim like labels on the screen, etc.) which I enjoyed. And of course, the music is fun. Somehow, James Gunn got me to care about Rick Flag, which just seems crazy in light of the first SS.

Probably a Top 3 DCEU movie for me.

Right? I was actually pretty bummed about Flag. I guess that's a testament to Kinnamen's likability, and the writing.

Flag and Boomerang were the ones I was sad about. Boomerang only because I wanted to see Flash go up against The Rogues*.

*For those who aren't familiar, The Rogues are the name that Flash's villains actually call themselves, like it's a brotherhood. Usually it consists of Captain Cold, Heat Wave, Pied Piper, Weather Wizard, Golden Glider, Mirror Master, Trickster, and The Top. It's sort of like Spider-Man's Sinister Six. They're all super zany Silver Age villains, and are a super tight knit group.

I realize the title itself is technically a spoiler, and that the vast majority of the cast probably bites the dust, but can we please refrain in this thread from alluding to who, exactly, dies, for those of us who still haven't had a chance to see the movie yet?

I couldn't stop thinking about Rick and Morty which for some reason kind of ruined the move for me

Edited. I'm sorry. I misread their posts and thought they said the same thing.

I'll give myself a short ban.

Is it a spoiler to say what a bad movie?

Hollywood is hurting for ideas!

Why are you reading a thread for a movie that just came out and expecting it to be spoiler free? If you haven't seen the movie but care about spoilers - maybe you should just avoid a discussion thread about about the movie?

I've been posting here for over 15 years, and during that entire time, for big movies, there's almost always a devoted spoiler thread, while the standard thread for the same movie becomes reserved for general reactions, in the wake of the release. So that those who have yet to see the movie can still read how the board is reacting to it, without fear of spoilers, which is why I was here. For some reason, however, for this specific movie, no one created a spoiler thread. Still, I figured the same "rule" as always would be in effect. Not to mention, those who inadvertently spoiled the movie, who I don't hold anything against, apologized and edited their posts, clearly acknowledging the same "rule" I'm referring to. So I'm not being irrational or asking too much here. I simply didn't have the time to see it this weekend, but always love reading reactions from fellow posters whether I've seen the movie yet or not.

This was some red hot American garbage. I read some of these positive responses and feel like I must have seen a completely different movie. I knew I was in trouble when the plane scene at the beginning barely got a chuckle out of me. I did have a laugh from time to time, but for the most part all of the jokes fell flat or were just eye rolling bad. The gore was over the top for what seemed like no good reason. Ratcatcher, Polka Dot Man, a giant starfish? This is what was left after someone scraped the bottom of the barrel.

Clearly my expectations were too high. I really wanted this to be good. It was right on par with WW84 and Birds of Prey, aka, terrible.

Thought it was great, but it's definitely not made for tight wads.

In tears at the camp infiltration scene.

Rather than setting your expectations too high, I think you set them wrongly not knowing the premise. "Scraped the bottom of the barrel" is the whole point of The Suicide Squad. They are the losers and dregs of the powered human world used to deal with crap no one else will.

It's meant to be a ridiculous and over the top franchise. DC has a lot of bizarro stuff and lot of insane characters with dumb powers from an earlier comic age. This franchise was built to showcase that oddball side of DC.

Entertainment value 9/10
Plot: 5.5/10
Character development: 3/10

I enjoyed it and got what I expected out of a comic book movie!

Starfish is slang for butthole. Do you think there is a connection?

I liked it. But it does't take too much to impress me anymore.

Sorry but this had better character development than a whole lot of movies. (Captain Marvel comes to mind.)

Not sure why that in particular got your lowest score when it's precisely what stands out in this movie.

I wonder if the difference in opinion as to the quality of the movie is based on seeing it in the theater versus at home? I probably would have regretted spending money on it had I gone to the theater.

Don't you have to spend money to watch it at home? I thought it was like BW and cost $30 to watch at home.

Had to watch it at home because of so much going on this weekend, but I would have loved to have seen it in IMAX. May still do it if I get time.

Some spoilerish thoughts rolling around my head today:

I still think it's hilarious how they brought in Pete Davidson, Rooker, Fillion, etc. and killed them in the first like 15 minutes. Amazing.

Speaking of deaths, RIP Polka Dot Man. I really thought he was going to make it through.

Idris Elba and John Cena chemistry is not something I could have ever imagined existing, but it's real.

As soon as Harley grabbed the javelin and said "I know what to do with this now.", I knew she was going to stab Starro in the eye. However, it was fantastic to watch the setup, as the rooftop/beam stays in the center, and Starro stumbles into the frame as Harley comes racing down it, that shot is sticking with me for some reason.

I think my one complaint is it could have flowed a little better. I loved the scene where Harley shoots the president and monologues about her trouble with men, but that whole thing could have been cut and the movie probably wouldn't have suffered from it. On the other hand, I really did enjoy that scene.

Thought it was really good and a great combination of Guardians of the Galaxy and Deadpool with a little Cabin in the Woods mixed in. I'm not sure I would trust anyone's taste who called this a bad movie. Does it have some issues and plot holes, certainly but to say it was terrible is such a broadly ignorant take.

It was a tad too long and probably could have removed the Milton subplot but it was just too great a payoff at the end and a nice running joke that I understand why Gunn kept it in the movie.

I don't understand how anyone would think this is on the same level as WW84. I audibly laughed at least a dozen times throughout the movie and I actually fell asleep watching WW84 and never cracked a smile once, just a flat out awful movie.

Gunn stated he had the most fun directing this movie than any other movie he's ever done and it shows.

No you're good. That's my issue with BW, the $30. If I'm gonna spend that kinda dough on a movie, I want the theater experience.

Glad to find out SS2 is not that way.

I found myself going crazy having to lookup what BW meant. I didn't realize Black Widow was popular enough to be abbreviated in regular conversation. Next thing you know yall will be saying some guy named Milton was your favorite character in The Suicide Squad
