Man in my opinion, this movie is a big dud. They took this movie to another level compared to the 1st, a new level of stupid
I forgot this was a DC thread, not Marvel.cajunaggie08 said:
I found myself going crazy having to lookup what BW meant. I didn't realize Black Widow was popular enough to be abbreviated in regular conversation. Next thing you know yall will be saying some guy named Milton was your favorite character in The Suicide Squad
It's tough to see how this iteration of TSS gets to BW's $174 million domestically with a bow of $26.5 million and it being available for free on HBO Max.Quote:
Five summers ago, the DC supervillain extravaganza Suicide Squad had a massive $133.7 opening weekend at the North American box office. Despite those eye-popping numbers, critics and audiences were left unimpressed by the film. This weekend, the complete opposite happened: critics and audiences loved its big-budget follow-up, The Suicide Squad, but its theatrical receipts were underwhelming, pulling in just $26.5 million in its debut weekend. In the age of COVID, it appears that up is down, black is white, and blockbusters just ain't what they used to be.
. . .
While the first Suicide Squad's ultimate global box-office haul of $746.8 million seems way out of reach for the new film, Warner Bros. would probably be tickled pink if The Suicide Squad finished somewhere close to Robbie and Harley Quinn's 2020 spin-off Birds of Prey, which pulled in $201.9 worldwide just as the world began closing down.
. . .
In fourth was Disney and Marvel's Black Widow, which tacked on $4 million in its fifth weekend in theaters. The PG-13-rated superhero stand-alone starring Scarlett Johansson dipped -38.1% from the previous session, scoring a $1,292 per-screen average in 3,100 theaters. The movie's domestic box-office take now stands at $174.4 million, which pushed it past the latest Fast and the Furious installment, F9: The Fast Saga, to snag the crown as the top-grossing film of the year in North America.

Yeah, it seems really dumb to compare those numbers. TSS is free on HBO Max while BW is getting $30 on D+ (which is ridiculous, and why I haven't seen it yet).
Not a fair comparison.

I liked the first half but got hokey. The starfish came across as a 1960s Godzilla villain.

Just an awful villain choice.
I saw a video where Gunn says he initially wanted it to be Suicide Squad vs bad Superman but the studio said no and he had to adjust the script.

Red Son is the only graphic novel I've read more than once, and the DC animation of it is pretty strong too.jeffk said:
Reaffirms my belief that Superman is a much more interesting villain than hero.
Edit to plug Red Son - it's the best Superman graphic novel out there.
