Recap on HBO Max for me as well. Not too long, but helped enough. Rewatched the season two finale a couple weeks ago, which was essential.

But yeah, so awesome to have this show back. The perfect re-acclamation after three years, with such a great ending. Can't wait to see where the Barry/Gene relationship goes now.

Quick question, though. Were Berry and his now-girlfriend dating last season? I totally forgot that, if so. I just remember them acting together and then her getting a bunch of praise after that talent scout performance thing, but I don't remember them actually hooking up/being together.

Ditto on getting the recap. Spilner, maybe you have options set to skip the intros or something?

I don't think Barry was formally dating Sally in Season 2, but she definitely seems like the type who would claim she had a boyfriend when she got a TV show for the exact reasons we see, like him bringing her flowers to bolster her ego.

I hate that so much time went by between seasons. The Fonz is looking old, but is still an awesome performer. I think perhaps my favorite thing about streaming and premium cable series is how it gives actors who otherwise might have been in retirement or just not in the public eye anymore a chance to keep on being incredibly bad ass on the screen.

It actually took me a while to realize there was kind of a time jump, right? I didn't remember seeing that Gene closed his school or that Barry had moved in with the actress.

Not sure how Barry can make killing his girlfriend better. Seems like a bit of a stretch there. I worry that it may end up being lame in some way.

There was such a long gap between seasons that i think there elements I don't remember. One thing I'm fuzzy on and I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious. But the scene towrds the end of season two where Fuches shows Gene the dead body in the trunk. He points the gun at Gene's head but at the same time tells him that Barry did it. I don't understand this. Did Fuches really intend to shoot Gene? If so, why didn't he go through with it? And if he did intend to shoot him why did he tell him Barry did it? Or what am I missing here?

So he has a gun to Henry Winkler's head and says "I'll make this better". What in the world could he do to make it better? Is Henry going to just forget that he was dragged out to the desert in the trunk of a car? And what can Barry to do make him get over that his girlfriend was killed? Even if he got his school back, that wouldn't make him forget and forgive.

It's a TV show. You're asking the exact questions specifically designed to entice us into watching the next episode. This is how TV works. "How is [character X] going to get out of [situation X]? Tune in next week to find out!"

Clearly, Barry has a plan to get Gene something he wants that he doesn't have. Maybe it's an acting career. Maybe it's an even better school. Who knows? Either way, this is the heart of dramatic tension - forcing two characters together who are at complete odds, to see what happens. It's such a great dynamic, too. "Man who kills character's girlfriend is forced to work with said character in an attempt to make it right." How could you not be excited by that, and trust a show that has already delivered so much greatness?

This show requires suspending disbelief. That is fine. It's more of a comedy than The Wire or Breaking Bad. But there is a line that is too far. If at the end of this season, Barry and Gene are best of buds for whatever reason then either:

1) The show jumped the shark bigtime
2) They are the best writers ever

I am merely hoping #1 doesn't happen.

Great first episode. Hader goes deep into the creative/production process, talks about how they arrived at certain ideas, alternate ideas they had, etc. Super informative. Will definitely be listening every week.

What a talent Bill Hader is. Quality acting this episode as usual.
