So, like a 90% chance that there is a room of writers backstage feeding Chris Rock joke ideas, and that wasn't even his?

True, but the rest of us would be in handcuffs right now.

Between Scientology, political rants about cow insemination, open marriages and nationally televised and cheered assault, Hollywood is a truly odd place.
I'm not kidding, have Costner host. There was so much punching down at movies tonight. It felt so tacky. The show should be about why we love movies.

Will Smith has been weird for a while now, I blame Jada
Jada has been *******ing him for years. She basically ****s every dude that comes across her. It's really really messed up Will Smith.
Violence isn’t ok. Assault is never the answer. Also? This is the 2nd time that Chris has made fun of Jada on the #Oscars stage, & tonight he went after her alopecia. Punching down at someone’s auto-immune disease is wrong. Doing so on purpose is cruel. They both need a breather.

Well. It worked and because of reading this I tuned to watch his speech.
I'm not against the Oscars I just barely have time for anything like that in life right now but reading through it sounds like they are taking a hit ratings wise. I don't follow Hollywood stuff but what I get on this thread.
But Will Smith just walked out on stage and hit somebody on National television and now everybody is cool with it. What other part of life would that be ok other than Hollywood and eh Oscars?
A coach couldn't punch another coach and go on with his / her day. A news anchor? What other live TV would be OK with this?
I don't think this is helping the impression these people are out of touch with reality.

Dear God is alopecia, not something that actually kills you. Making fun of alopecia or baldness is on the same thing as making fun of gingers.
historical context: the last time Chris Rock hosted the Oscars, in 2016, he said "Jada Pinkett Smith boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties—I wasn't invited!"
