I watched Dirty Work many times with my dad when I was 12. Great movie.

The lack of respect, Thats what hurts the most...

Except for the other thing... That hurts the most.
I see what you tried to do there. Didn't quite stick it, but i'll give you a 6/10 for the effort!

The real winner of the night was Regina Hall, who should have been skewered for the hypocracy of her sexist covid joke(?) to the same group that only recently brought us the #metoo movement. Instead she gets a pass as the world picks side and debates "chivalrous or pvssywhipped?" Speaking of sexism, Venus William's nipple anyone? What say you?

I used to watch the Oscars too, not recently. I think the last one I watched was in 2016, but i was just talking about this earlier today.

Hollywood has not made a single movie that has looked interesting to me, at least good enough to go see in a theatre, in quite sometime.

The closest I have come recently is the new Nic Cage movie. Maybe Nobody with Bob Odenkirk. Im not really into superhero movies, so I couldnt comment there...but for the most part, I dont really watch movies anymore.

And when's the last time there was a good comedy movie? It's been forever. It's depressing. You cant make funny movies anymore.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!

Good to see Jomboy has moved on from his Astro bashing because this is pretty good. Especially where Rock starts "man I could …" and then takes the high road.

Really great analysis. I could see it both ways--staged or live reaction. If Live, then it is clear who wears the pants in the Smith household...

The writers that are good enough to do a comedy movie have mainly chosen to be showrunners now for non-network TV comedies. The have more control on what gets into the show

There is ZERO chance this was staged.

- Will Smith has worked too hard for too long to arrive at his moment of coronation last night, one in which he and everyone else knew Best Actor was a lock, to risk jeopardizing any of it on a staged stunt. Especially considering recent years and all the effort he's put into Instagram, his autobiography, and the like toward rehabbing his image in the wake of his bombs over the past decade or so. That was a purely emotional, unhinged, in-the-moment reaction, almost assuredly due to the insecurities stemming from his widely reported marital issues, his involvement with Scientology, and the fact that he used to watch his father abuse his mother when he was a kid. What we witnessed was a years-in-the-making, perfect storm, powder keg of disfunction.

- Smith and Rock could not care less about ABC's Oscar ratings, at least not enough to stage last night as some kind desperate attempt to gain viewership on behalf of a network/corporation neither have anything to do with or any financial stake in. Especially considering Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed that he was paid only $15K to host the Oscars. Smith and Rock are each beyond wealthy, and anything in the ballpark of $15K, or likely much less, to pull a stunt like that, wouldn't even register for someone like them, would probably in fact be considered an insult, and again, would be far too little to risk so much.

- I'm sorry, but not even the best actors on the planet could fake some of the very raw emotion we saw on display last night. That was simply too genuine and too real. Never mind all the actions and reactions of those close to Smith and Rock and in the building last night. You don't have Denzel Washington mediating and publicists rushing out during the commercial break to try and play damage control for a planned stunt like that. Not to mention the myriad reports we've read and seen after, none of which even remotely point to it being staged.

I think Denzel probably told Will that he needed to go up there an apologize. Will Smith could have controlled this a lot better had he gone up there and talked about him being a 'vessel for love' BS and follow it up with "and I didn't act like that earlier. I'm embarrassed by my behavior and I would like to apologize to everyone including Chris."

That publicist, though.

He was there to guide Will's expected coronation.

His job is also crisis management.

We've seen plenty of commercial break videos of those two talking after the fact. And that was the speech they landed on after the fact?

Of all people, what a night for that guy. And what a failure. And Will prob pays him 3x what most of us get paid.

It's crazy to me that people are still wondering if this was staged. Jadas face, Smiths face after he hit Rock (pure sincere rage), Rocks obvious and awkward stumbling for words right after out of sincere shock, and Smiths screaming was very very real.

Like I posted earlier my theory is that Smith was already coming into the night feeling insecure and angry about the world talking about his wife messing around on him. Then the night opens up with a barb from the hosts about Jada and Wills "open marriage ". He smiles publicly and awkwardly but stews inside. Then Rock says the joke and Smith tries to laugh it off awkwardly again but this time he sees Jadas face and like a pressure cooker he blows. IMO this has been building with him for quite some time. Dude probably needs serious therapy.

I'm also reminded of stories of how angry and enraged Will supposedly was when he found out the Impractical Jokers were mocking his kid and one even got a silly tattoo of him. He's obviously got some anger issues already built in.

Will Smith apologies

Here is the full statement:

"Violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night's Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada's medical condition was too much for me to bear, and I reacted emotionally.

"I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

"I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams family and my 'King Richard' family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

"I am a work in progress."

And now Chris Rock weighs in. Calling oneself "renown" is super weird, but otherwise everyone (and their PR teams) are saying the right things…

At this point, I'd bet just about anything that Smith and Rock present the award for Best Actress TOGETHER next year (seeing as the former winner always presents for the opposite sex the next year).

That's just awful. Absolutely pathetic.

Renown is a noun. Renowned is the adjective. He is a comedian of some renown.

If it was an act, I don't think WS would gave laughed at the joke. He would have immediately feigned being pissed. This was the thing that made him look P whipped. And yes, I don't think he would have consciously aligned himself with violence and assault at the expense of his kids and other's watching all over the world. He's smarter than that (just not emotionally settled).

There is one person that still needs an apology, Questlove. How many remember his acceptance speech immediately after the slap?

Is there a way to watch Summer of Soul without a Hulu sub?

The only things good to come of this, other than yet another reminder to think before you slap and alopecia awareness, is the inevitable Netflix specials by Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle.

Especially Chapelle. The man was already pissed about how comedians get treated anyway.
