Thought we were done with this conversation. I've already given my opinion about race on this show. If your curious, go read my posts. That's all I have to say about it.

Also I don't know if anyone has mentioned the Ents and Ent children when the meteor went past them. That was a nice little cameo.
for the record, Ive never felt like what you said was racist. You are saying that these regions/races/groups of peole were portrayed as being a certain way in the books (and previous movies), and that it doesnt really make any story-related sense to change it.DallasTeleAg said:

I always wonder if people ever read back anything they write before hitting send, but this is hilarious.Urban Ag said:
Honestly this thread is pathetic. You nerds shatting yourself about every detail need to get laid. I am not even a fantasy fan, I just got hooked on the GOT books then the series and enjoyed Jackson's trilogy years earlier.

Entwives should still be around. Exact timing is a little hazy (intentionally on Tolkien's part), but they disappeared at some point during the War of the Last Alliance. Sauron blighted their gardens, turning them into the Brown Lands, to delay advancing Alliance forces.canadiaggie said:Brian Earl Spilner said:

Are the Entwives gone at this point? Did they vanish during the second age or the first?
I'm glad Johnny Lawrence has learned to use Texags as well as Facebook.Urban Ag said:

I can't answer that one for certain, but my understanding is that they only have access to Hobbit, LOTR, and the appendices. Any published work outside of that is off limits.Quincey P. Morris said:
So what exactly do they have access to? Quick google search says just The Hobbit, LOTR, and info from the appendices. So no Silmarillion, but does that include The History of Middle Earth Books or strictly info in the appendices?
Is it not safe to assume that meteor man is Gandalf? Sorry nerds if this has already been discussed.Maximus_Meridius said:
God...reading to this point was a ****ing chore...
I'm enjoying it. Is it as good as the LOTR trilogy? No, but you (should) have already known that it wasn't likely to be. At least I am getting the feel of it being a quality production, and feel like we're in Middle Earth (even if it's different from the one we know in the Third Age). Comparing it to the dumpster fire that is Wheel of Time, this is worlds better.
- I don't get the Galadriel hate. I just don't. I DO, however, disagree with using her as the main character solely because I feel like they're asking for criticism in doing so. They are deviating from her known story line, which has quite a bit of detail throughout Tolkien's body of work. I know they don't have the rights to use The Silmarillion, but still, her story is pretty well known, and messing with it is going to piss people off. I get why they're doing it, but I would rather them have created a new character to explore this world with.
- Is it weird that I really don't notice the skin tones of the actors? Like, Disa being black doesn't bother me in the slightest. I love Disa, btw, the interplay between her and Durin was terrific.
- Khazad-Dum was amazing.
- I know some people like 'em, but man the Harfoot scenes are not doing it for me. I feel like they always throw the pacing off.
- Meteor man is not Sauron. I know we're deviating from what Tolkien wrote, but I'm not sure we're going to deviate THAT far. Why would the elves learn how to make the rings of power from a wild looking amnesiac? I'm not sure he's a good guy either. Nori didn't burn her hand on the fire, similar to how the elves in Sauron/Morgoth's fortress in the first episode couldn't feel the heat from their torches. Not sure what to think with that one. But I am ready for them to pick up the pace on his storyline a bit. They leave this mystery hanging through the entire first season without answer and I'm going to be ticked.

Does the Tolkien estate have any sort of veto power (apart from the limits set forth in the license)? I have to hope that the estate would put the kibosh on Meteor Man being Gandalf.

Obviously not, or they would have put the kibosh on the Galadriel storyline.
There are some Tolkien writings about Gandalf wandering among the elves during the second age. I think he was talking about the undying lands, but they could use that statement to have Gandalf show up in this show.Red Five said:
In theory, Gandalf shouldn't show up in Middle-Earth for another few thousand years. That was established in sources Amazon doesn't have the rights to though IIRC, so it's possible they could ignore that.

Full spectrum of inclusion being something to be avoided at all costs.Madmarttigan said:
Not going to care about the nitty gritty discussion of the show, but this is far superior to Wheel of Time so far. Also those complaining about weird races playing elves/dwarves should be glad this show is nothing in comparison to what wheel of time did. I don't really care either way but WoT so much more noticeable they were going for the full spectrum of inclusion.

Yea, have to think that it will be hard for WoT Season 2 to get accepted now that the bar has been raised by HOTD And LOTR (and current).Madmarttigan said:Faustus said:Full spectrum of inclusion being something to be avoided at all costs.Madmarttigan said:

It doesn't bother my viewing experience but the bad acting, horrific soap opera production value, and poor storytelling were just a few of the problems I had.

Bezos spent 715 million for season 1? What hot garbage.
This comment below I can not take credit for. I wish that I could.
"It began with the forging of the great films. Threads were given by Tolkien, immortal, wisest and fairest of all beings. Rights were granted to Jackson, great miner and craftsman of the mountain of lore. And nine, nine hours were gifted to the race of men who above all else desire quality. But they were all of them deceived, for another show was made. In the land of Amazon, in the fires of Mount Prime, the Dark Lord Bezos forged a master flop. And into this show he poured his money, his greed, and his will to dominate all film. One show to ruin them all."

He doesn't have time to reread it. Too busy simultaneously getting laid, not shatting himself, and delivering that righteous truth to nerds!
