Just got home from catching it in Seattle. Theater was full and the audience, mostly female and dressed in pink, was having a great time.
I thought it was original, funny, and fun. It raised a lot of ideas and didn't always know what to do with them, but I appreciated them playing outside the box. It won't be for everyone. A lot of Texaggers will hate it, but my wife loved it and I think there's a large audience who will really enjoy this movie.
ken waking up to the patriarchy was a funny and unexpected direction.

Once they released the ken music video it was pretty obvious the direction they would go with the movie. It had major incel vibes
"Where I see love she sees a friend", "anywhere else I would be a 10". It is not incredibly deep or complicated to read into that the song was him being pissed off. Combined with lines from the trailers of Barbie "AND KEN"Tobias Funke said:Saxsoon said:

These are the words of somebody who spends way too much time on the internet. I am certain you are in the <1% of people who had that thought

Girlfriend was very excited about this one so I tagged along.
Buddy, if your profile picture and posting history are any indication, you are about the least qualified person on this site when it comes to how to act around a female, much less a girlfriend or wife.

I really don't know how you can watch this movie and think it's a man hating movie. Barbie literally apologizes to Ken. And then everyone at the end of the movie is happy. You have to have the thinnest skin to get upset at just the word patriarchy to get upset at this movie.
Funny movie, with a fantastic performance from Robbie and Gosling. Excited to see what Gerwig does with the Narnia movies next.
Have you followed the current state of the GOP over the past 10ish years?Quote:

The black clothing, eyeliner, I got vibes of him being a 'villain' at the end of the song
Let's be a little more inclusive, please.Ol Jock 99 said:Have you followed the current state of theQuote:

So in the movie the Ken's took over, then the Barbie's reclaimed their rule back. Both were wrong to try and rule exclusively. In the end when Ken asked for I think it was something like a single seat on the supreme court or something they were told NO. So basically women only. Ken was happy to be put in his place ("Kenough") and left it at that. Imagine the roles were reversed and the men won in the end and told the Barbies, "sorry - stay in the kitchen. Ruling is for men only". I imagine that wouldn't have gone over well either lol.TajMaballer said:

The message in the end should have been that EVERYONE should be able to be what they want to be. That's really all it would have taken to make this from an OK movie to a great movie.

I'm surprised at all the negative responses to the movie. Like another poster said, they talked about how eventually the Kens would gain equality just like women eventually in the real world. I think the fact that so many people are bothered by a feminist message indicates that unfortunately those messages are still needed. Plus the final message to Ken was that he needed to stop blindly pursuing Barbie and needed to figure himself out first, which I think is a good one.
Can you imagine going to see BARBIE for the purpose of finding out what's "wrong" with it so you can report back how anti-male it is? There is a deep, deep brain rot with people invested in the culture wars.

No, of course I never played with Barbies as a kid. Those were for girls! I was doing boy stuff, not stuff for little girls. Anyway, as a grown man, here is my review of the Barbie movie, which made me furious because it didn't cater to me.

Rugged ultra-masculine alpha males who had a lot of thoughts about the little mermaid are super invested in Barbie dolls I see. Grown man shit.

the funniest part about conservatives calling barbie woke is like what did they expect. did they want barbie to promote being a stay at home wife and homeschooling children or whatever? barbies whole thing is she could do any job men could do lol, she has never been “antiwoke”

The ending shows that we shouldn't live in a matriarchy or patriarchy, we should be equal and respectful of each other. It’s both empathetic to men and women. Plus all the 'Ken becomes a villain' stuff seems to be more comedically done and doesn't actually stick

For people comparing that #BarbieMovie is “anti-men” there is a whole second storyline and song surrounding co-lead Ryan Gosling about how Ken doesn’t feel good enough and lacks an identity and purpose. It’s a universal tale on the ridiculous expectations set for humanity. pic.twitter.com/r7qJ33FbAs

Men were lampooned, satirized and objectified in "Joy Ride" and now "Barbie." That's TWO movies, people. This is an outrage! In 30 years on the job, I've never SEEN a comedy that treats women as punchlines, sex objects, dimwits, accessories, stereotypes or fantasy figures. pic.twitter.com/4qERPE9E1c
