I find it hard to believe that Bohemian Rhapsody is already 6 years old.

#6 1967: In The Heat of the Night, Cool Hand Luke, The Samurai, The Graduate, Bonnie & Clyde, The Jungle Book, The Dirty Dozen, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?, In Cold Blood, Wait Until Dark
vs.
#11 1973: The Sting, American Graffiti, The Day of the Jackal, Papillon, The Exorcist, Paper Moon, The Last Detail, Mean Streets, The Wicker Man
A little bit surprised and sad that 1973 did not make this a better contest. I didn't expect it to win, I even went back and forth for a long time on this one but The Sting and American Graffiti are two of my favorite make me smile films
I'm guessing most zoned in on the Dirty Dozen here

I'm not actually outraged. But as we've established, age is a huge factor, and those were my prime early teen years. So, a lot of my favorites came out those years...

01: FOTR, Ocean's 11, Donnie Darko, Vanilla Sky, Black Hack Down, Rush Hour 2, The Mummy Returns
03: ROTK, POTC, Kill Bill, Matrix Reloaded, Lost in Translation, Last Samurai

He mentioned Lawrence of Arabia and another 60s-era movie. Then childhoods favs of Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. My intent is to say that the latter two are equal to the first two in terms of absolute classics.

Well in my eclipse fervor I forgot that both rounds of 32 should have been yesterday so we'll do the other half of the Round of 32 today, then 16 on Wednesday, 8 on Thursday, 4 over the weekend and the final matchup next Monday ala the real March Madness.

For the third straight day of competition, there was a matchup decided by two votes or fewer. That was continuing the Cinderella run of #14 1987, which edged #6 1975 50.8%-49.2%.

Speaking of Cinderella, it was more like Bridezilla as #16 1977 crushed #8 1962 78%-22% to move on to the Sweet 16 where it will face #12 2000 which cruised past #4 2018 with 67.5% of the votes.

The late 1970s got a second entry into the You Must Be the Other Guy Region's final four with #15 1978 holding off #7 2023 57.6%-42.4%

In the What's in The Box Region, #1 1995 cruised to an 81.4%-18.6% victory over #9 1974.

Its showdown with #2 2008 is still in play. Batman and Ironman crushed Frank Drebin and John McLane 61%-39%.

#3 2015, weary from its 12-round knockout vs. 1965, had nothing left in the tank was blown out of the building by #6 1998, 79.7%-20.3%.

In the #12 vs. #13 battle, 1990 kept on slaying them easily, with 83.1% of the vote vs. 1971.

Only one is really competitive as I check in at mid-day. Although several lower seeds are doing their thing again. I thought 1994 was going to go wire to wire today at 100% but somebody messed it up.

Tomorrow's posts will probably be later in the morning as I have been roped into taking a foster dog to get spayed and have to leave my house at 6 am.

48 pretenders kicked to the curb.

The Sweet 16 field is pretty remarkable.
  • Seven of the 16 entries are from the 1990s, which means that 70% of the 90s' entries have made it this far.
  • Five of the 16 entries are from the 1980s, a decade that a lot of you weren't even alive for.
  • The 1970s and 2000s have two entries each.
  • The 2010s and 2020s were shut out entirely.

Here come the entries, along with my award-winning commentary* posing the question to you, dear voter which year's best 3-person/creature team would win a fight vs. the other year's 3-person/creature team?
Note: One character per movie limit.
Please feel free to invent your own 3-man teams from these years, I came up with this idea on the spur of the moment!

1989 vs 1999 is a tough one. Might just flip a coin.

Really? Really? What's wrong with you people. The only exceptional movie in the '96 list is Fargo. The only meh picture in the '67 list is Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? sigh.

#1 1995 vs. #13 1990
#1 1995: Braveheart, Toy Story, Se7en, The Usual Suspects, Heat, Casino, Apollo 13, 12 Monkeys, Leaving Las Vegas, Sense & Sensibility

#13 1990: Dances with Wolves, Home Alone, Goodfellas, Edward Scissorhands, Misery, The Hunt For Red October, Awakenings, Pretty Woman, Total Recall, Back to the Future 3

Damn. Gonna have to go Ryder Cup match-play style, movie by movie, based on whatever ratings you used to get them lined up in this order.

1. Braveheart vs. Dances With Wolves
Extremely close for me. Narrowest of margins.

2. Toy Story vs. Home Alone
Another close one. Both original constructs. Both awesome still.

3. Se7en vs. Goodfellas
The first one that's not really close. I love Se7en, but Goodfellas is a near perfect movie.

4. The Usual Suspects vs. Edward Scissorhands
Another one that's not particularly close. I love the absurdity of Edward Scissorhands and it's definitely a 1 of 1 movie, but The Usual Suspects is too good.

5. Heat vs. Misery
Surprisingly close for me, and Heat is one of my all-timers. Misery is so perfectly cast that it nearly takes it if I look at them objectively. Just can't beat out the shootout and the diner scene.

6. Casino vs. The Hunt for Red October
This one hurt my heart. I absolutely love Casino, but it drags a bit with the James Woods/Sharon Stone scenes for me. Got to give it to Jack Ryan and Captain Romius.

7. Apollo 13 vs. Awakenings
DeNiro and Williams are great in Awakenings, but this is a mismatch. Apollo 13 is epic.

8. 12 Monkeys vs. Pretty Woman
Kind of surprised myself with this pick. I think I like 12 Monkeys more, but I think I have to acknowledge that Pretty Woman is iconic. I wanted to take 12 Monkeys, but in the end I think Pretty Woman is the right choice.

9. Leaving Las Vegas vs. Total Recall
Fairly close, but Total Recall is more rewatchable where Leaving Las Vegas is a tough, tough watch.

10. Sense & Sensibility vs. BTTF3
Thankfully, my love for Elizabeth Shue is redeemed after the #9 matchup. BTTF3 is fun and I love pretty much everything about it. Arguably the best closing chapter to the best TRUE trilogy of all time.

So in the end, 1990 takes the match 6-4.

Agreed. Same thing for 1962 which deserved a better fate - I just chalk it up to the average age on here.
