Really? Really? What's wrong with you people. The only exceptional movie in the '96 list is Fargo. The only meh picture in the '67 list is Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? sigh.
it's unlikely most people have seen more than 2-3 movies from 1967. I've seen 3, and none of them in the last 30 years.

#1 1995 vs. #13 1990
#1 1995: Braveheart, Toy Story, Se7en, The Usual Suspects, Heat, Casino, Apollo 13, 12 Monkeys, Leaving Las Vegas, Sense & Sensibility

#13 1990: Dances with Wolves, Home Alone, Goodfellas, Edward Scissorhands, Misery, The Hunt For Red October, Awakenings, Pretty Woman, Total Recall, Back to the Future 3

Damn. Gonna have to go Ryder Cup match-play style, movie by movie, based on whatever ratings you used to get them lined up in this order.

1. Braveheart vs. Dances With Wolves
Extremely close for me. Narrowest of margins.

2. Toy Story vs. Home Alone
Another close one. Both original constructs. Both awesome still.

3. Se7en vs. Goodfellas
The first one that's not really close. I love Se7en, but Goodfellas is a near perfect movie.

4. The Usual Suspects vs. Edward Scissorhands
Another one that's not particularly close. I love the absurdity of Edward Scissorhands and it's definitely a 1 of 1 movie, but The Usual Suspects is too good.

5. Heat vs. Misery
Surprisingly close for me, and Heat is one of my all-timers. Misery is so perfectly cast that it nearly takes it if I look at them objectively. Just can't beat out the shootout and the diner scene.

6. Casino vs. The Hunt for Red October
This one hurt my heart. I absolutely love Casino, but it drags a bit with the James Woods/Sharon Stone scenes for me. Got to give it to Jack Ryan and Captain Romius.

7. Apollo 13 vs. Awakenings
DeNiro and Williams are great in Awakenings, but this is a mismatch. Apollo 13 is epic.

8. 12 Monkeys vs. Pretty Woman
Kind of surprised myself with this pick. I think I like 12 Monkeys more, but I think I have to acknowledge that Pretty Woman is iconic. I wanted to take 12 Monkeys, but in the end I think Pretty Woman is the right choice.

9. Leaving Las Vegas vs. Total Recall
Fairly close, but Total Recall is more rewatchable where Leaving Las Vegas is a tough, tough watch.

10. Sense & Sensibility vs. BTTF3
Thankfully, my love for Elizabeth Shue is redeemed after the #9 matchup. BTTF3 is fun and I love pretty much everything about it. Arguably the best closing chapter to the best TRUE trilogy of all time.

So in the end, 1990 takes the match 6-4.

Oof I went the other way.

In your head to head matchup sure I get Goodfellas over Se7en. But Se7en is probably the second best movie on this entire lineup. It's a directorial masterpiece of cinematography, pacing, use of color, using the city itself as a character, the nameless/faceless villain, the way the crime scenes were shown, the unfolding of the story, the reveal. Everything. Perfection only topped by another film of perfection in Goodfellas.

And then the Usual suspects, Apollo 13, Casino and Heat. I love Misery and HFRO but and Total Recall and Pretty Woman are fun but don't compare to those in terms of depth, storytelling, cinematically, etc.

I don't disagree with you. For me it ultimately came down to the OP and phrase "favorite movies" as opposed to best movies. I suppose I broke that rule with the 12 Monkeys/Pretty Woman decision, but that one came down to the number of times I've seen Pretty Woman homages over the years in other shows and movies. Plus it would have given me a 5/5 tie.

The funny thing is that if it were expanded, 1995 wins going away.

Tommy Boy, Billy Madison, Crimson Tide, The Quick and the Dead, Goldeneye

over

Miller's Crossing, Cadillac Man, Tremors, Days of Thunder, Kindergarten Cop, and Dick Tracey

Plus 1995 gave my teenage self Species and Showgirls.

Whichever year won that bracket was just going to get taken out by 1993, so it really doesn't matter.

I did say Goldeneye should have replaced Sense & Sensibility. It may have just swayed my vote. I took 90 based on the lists, cause I'm not about to start looking up extra movies for all the years.

94 vs 86 was tough, but 86 just doesn't have the depth that 94 has. I hope we see a 94 vs 84 matchup because that one will be tough to decide.

I agree that it'll be the best matchup it has had to date. But, tough? Not so much. (For me anyway.)

I know people love Ghostbusters, but for me Lion King wins that matchup.

Temple of Doom is quite a step below Raiders; you can take your pick of 94 movies that beat that out. (True Lies, Speed, etc.)

I love Terminator, it's one of my all-time favorites of course, but not sure I can take that over Pulp Fiction. I could maybe put it down as a tie with Forrest Gump. But, it's not topping the list of the overall movies.

Also love Karate Kid, but it's losing to any 94 movie mentioned thus far.

And I haven't even had to use Shawshank thus far for any of the top '84 contenders.

So, it's an easy choice.

Slumdog and Taken...in the same year. Quick, Uncle Caleb story...

My first trip to India many years ago, we worked with orphans for a couple weeks. It was very difficult to leave for I had attached myself to many of them emotionally. On the way home, I decide to watch Slumdog for the first time. Halfway through, I begin boohooing the rest of the movie (the movie is very good at visually portraying the reality of children on the street). After the movie is over, I decide to watch, an already seen, Taken, to get some revenge and get me out of my somber.

If you have never seen Slumdog, it is a great one! Understand going in, especially if you have a a young daughter, it will gut-wrenching in some spots.

If you have never seen Taken...what the heck are you doing? Watch the movie!

One movie that didn't make the 1984 list that I think is underrated and a quintessential 80s movie: Romancing the Stone. Love that movie! Also, tho bracket is getting really tough.
