If 77 makes the final, people are just voting for Star Wars and not the year.

My personal ranking of the movies listed (1977 in bold):

Heat
Braveheart
Toy Story
Casino
Apollo 13
Se7en
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Smokey & The Bandit
The Usual Suspects

Sense & Sensibility
Suspira*
The Duelists*
Annie Hall

* - I've never seen it, but I'm sure it's better than Annie Hall.

Depends on how hard one wants to wang their chung to the brilliance of Woody Allen. I've never enjoyed anything I've seen of his and I don't get the appeal. I recognize I am the outlier, but it's like when I had to watch "The Producer" in a film class at A&M. 2 hours of preamble about how important the movie was and how excellent it is, and I thought it was about the worst thing I'd ever seen.

Annie Hall is so meh.

1995 was a terrific movie year.

I went to bed this morning after I updated the bracket as I was up all night trying to pretend I was good enough for a job interview later today.

Just flicked on Google Forms and after reading all you guys posts, I **** you not, 93/94 is 50-50 dead heat.

Richie Rich is garbage. Big Trouble is an all time classic

Winner of 93-94 is the obvious winner, with the loser being #2.

If you do a third place vote, it would be a blowout.

I don't have a tabulation but yours are not always the most accurate predictions, friend-o.

Never seen it, but neither one belongs in a "greatest movies" list, let's be honest.

They are both squarely in the 'personal favorites' category.

Care to make it interesting?

I take the 93/94 winner winning the ship, and 93/94 loser over the 95/77 loser in a third place vote.

The fact that you haven't seen Big Trouble in Little China make me doubt every positive thing I've eve said about you. Both of them.

You'd be wrong and not that I'm any fan of Annie Hall, I enjoyed more that I thought I would when I finally watched it, but Suspira is unwatchable IMO and don't at all understand its cult classic status.

The Duelist is Ridley Scott's first film and only aware of this due to the youtube video

I watched Suspira for the first time based on a rec from another TA thread. I won't be watching it again.

I have never actually watched Annie Hall largely because I cannot stand Woody Allen. Annie Hall is probably a better movie than Suspira, but I'm still not going to watch it.

Guilty that I voted a straight 1939 ticket. But I only voted one time.

Gonna do exactly what I said I wouldn't and review other 1993 and 1994 movies, because that is an impossible task.

In addition to Schindler's List, Jurassic Park, In the Name of the Father, Groundhog Day, Tombstone, Philadelphia, The Fugitive, True Romance, The Sandlot, The Nightmare Before Christmas, 1993 has:
  • This Boys Life
  • Falling Down
  • A Bronx Tale
  • Fire in the Sky
  • In the Line of Fire
  • The Firm
  • The Pelican Brief
  • What's Eating Gilbert Grape
  • Carlito's Way
  • Menace II Society
  • Demolition Man
  • Judgment Night
  • Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story
  • Grumpy Old Men
  • The Program
  • Rudy
  • Rookie of the Year
  • Cool Runnings
  • Cliffhanger
  • Free Willy
  • Hot Shots! Part Deux
  • Robin Hood: Men in Tights
  • Dave
  • Dazed and Confused
  • So I Married an Axe Murderer
  • Mrs. Doubtfire
  • Sleepless in Seattle

In addition to Forrest Gump, The Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, The Lion King, The Professional, True Lies, Dumb & Dumber, Speed, Interview with the Vampire, Legends of the Fall, 1994 has:
  • The Mask
  • The Hudsucker Proxy
  • Maverick
  • Wyatt Earp
  • Clear and Present Danger
  • Stargate
  • On Deadly Ground
  • The Ref
  • Natural Born Killers
  • Blown Away
  • Little Giants
  • Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
  • The Crow
  • D2: The Mighty Ducks
  • Clerks
  • Reality Bites
  • Time Cop
  • Airheads
  • The Santa Clause
  • Blue Chips
  • PCU

Conclusion: This has made it no easier.

Agreed. I didn't read anything (as always) prior to heading to the voting and decided this was impossible to decide:

1993 vs 1994

I literally cannot decide which is better. And 20 other movies did not help that at first glance.

You got several all time greats there:

1994 - Pulp Fiction and Shawshank
1993 - Schindler's List and Tombstone

Plus each has their own summer blockbuster giant Jurassic Park and Forrest Gump
Each has their own comedic genius in Dumb and Dumber or Groundhog Day
Each has their own crime films The Fugitive and True Romance vs the Professional and Natural Born Killers
1994 might have an advantage in action movies - Speed and True Lies
but
1993 has an advantage in legal thrillers The Firm and Pelican Brief
Each has their westerns, spoofs, dramas, political thrillers, and period pieces.

Literally the only thing that I saw that could distinguish 1993 above 1994 is Dazed and Confused. As of now thats the only possible tiebreaker I see. But is it enough?

Oof.

The other race is literally so easy and I love SW and even Close Encounters. But come on. 1995 is a monster.

When i did the gifs for 94, my vote was 94. Especially when I found the Dumb and Dumber gif of them getting out of the Lambo
But then I swung back to 93 when I did those gifs so I went with the tiebreaker of what was the most captivating film from those 2 years I saw at the theater.
That answer was Jurassic Park. Incomparable theater experience. Unable to discern real life from special effects. A 19 year old me being literally scared of the T Rex.
93 got the vote.

93 vs 94 was ALWAYS going to be the de facto championship game, in my book, when this bracket dropped. And it was as difficult a decision as I had imagined, for all the reasons y'all discussed.

Which got me to thinking... what if the 93 vs 94 choice was made on the strength of the best movies' SOUNDTRACKS stacked against each other's?

Jurassic Park followed by Wyatt Earp would be my choice.

I don't get the love for D&D. I cannot stand that movie and I like plenty of dumb movies. Some examples of dumb movies I like are most of Will Ferrel's stuff, Tommy Boy, Happy Gilmore, etc. Clerks is a million times better than D&D for me.

I don't mind Jim Carrey either, really liked him in a few of his other comedies.

Dumb and Dumber is a million times better than Tommy Boy and any thing Will Ferrel has been the lead in.
