Then what do you do when people continue to pour in?

You know that I was a Leo for 16 years and am currently an attorney that represents police in UOF incidents.

I would not have shot in that situation. I would have punched or kicked her in the face after giving commands. I might have OC sprayed her.

If another came through the same opening I would have repeated the process. Only if I thought multiple people were breaking through would I have considered using deadly force.

That dude was a coward. A large percentage of police are now,

I do not think what he did was criminal, but he would never wear a badge again if I was in his chain of command. And I would have called him a ***** to his face.
Cops were macing, punching, kicking and giving commands all the way up until that point. They gave every single warning you just mentioned.

You're a keyboard warrior who somehow knows the intentions of thousands of angry people and just know they are all unarmed. Kudos to your uncanny ability to intuit the actual threat level of people who are chanting to murder an elected official.

let's stick to some basic facts. There wer eat least three Capitol Police officers standing at those doors when protestors arrived en masse. Someone had already broken the window on one door and then the 3 police officers abandon their position. Why? Who knows. But if there were protectees behind that door it makes ZERO sense for those officers to abandon their position.

Two of the officers step to the right side of the hallway which allows Babbit and others to advance to the door. Around this same time Byrd produces a gun aimed at the crowd. He gives ZERO commands. Makes no announcement he intends to use deadly force. Within 10 seconds of the gun appearing Ashli Babbit is shot dead from a range of about 5 to 6 feet, with officers still within close proximity.

So no, the cops were not macing, punching, kicking and certainly were not giving any commands immediately preceding the shooting.

https://www.nbcconnecticut.com/news/national-international/video-shows-fatal-shooting-of-ashli-babbitt-at-u-s-capitol/2400195/?os=ave&ref=app

No matter how many times I watch the video, I have never been able to see how the shot was justified.

No, just a Capitol offense.

Evidently pointing your head through a broken window in a building open to the public and with cops surrounding you is justifiable homicide.

Why not pick some place like the White House or someplace where people with high security protocols on them are? Why not ask what might happen if you did what she did to access someone's home? Scared of the answer?

Since you use the example of the Columbia Library; If the VP and multiple members of Congress were held up in there and you tried to get to them by kicking in a window, what do you think would happen to you?

What if I told you there were no protectees in the area where Byrd was?

Why did Byrd not radio the 3 Capitol Police officers who were standing at the door seconds prior and tell them to hold their position or he was going to have to start shooting?

Why did he give no verbal commands?

And why can we just not have a thorough and open accounting of what went on with this shooting?

People not wanting to learn more about this are the ones scared of the answers, not me.

You don't unequivocally know that. And on top of that, even if they weren't there, the door was locked and barricaded. In 10 places out of 10, that means you are not coming in, and in some places, your life could be at stake if you choose to see if the people who locked and barricaded the door are serious about keeping you out.

I have enough information to leave me highly suspect there were protectees there, which leads me to ask questions and demand a transparent accounting of why Byrd was justified.

And there has been plenty of commentary from people on both sides debating whether the shoot was justified. The fact it is being so debated means the "facts" are not as cut and dry as you indicate.

The only "cut and dry fact" that I've been stating is the fact that she was trying to get someplace she wasn't supposed to be. Make all the arguments you want about "tHeY lEt tHeM iN", but eventually, whether you were let in or not, you're going to get as far as you're allowed to go.

Fact: bad **** could happen to you if you attempt to go further than that.

Various officers and security personnel tried (unsuccessfully) to repel the mob in and outside the Capital building using non lethal means. All of them failed to stop the advance. Even IF there were no 'protectees', the officer had a right to think his own life was in harm. Like i'm sorry but this is so cut and dry.

She deserved to be body slammed, cuffed, and arrested. Not shot to death.

Keyboard warrior? I am a former federal Leo SRT member. Use of force instructor for my agency.

And I spent 2 years in Iraq with Blackwater on the US Ambassador's protection detail. 2004-2006.

I am currently an attorney that represents police in critical incidents.

What qualifications do I need to not be a keyboard warrior?
Sure you are buddy.
Here you go dlpshlit. I'm the Ed Norton looking dude circled. If you notice, I am one of the 4 dudes toting long guns and part of SOS Rice's PPD. Ambassador Jeffrey is on the far right of the photo.

Damn man, that's definitely irrefutable proof. It's a picture with a circle. Can't question that! And even if all that's true - you should train more cops how to possess your intuition regarding the intent and threat level of an angry mob rioting inside the capital building.

I firmly believe that Babbitt would be alive today if she had just complied with capitol police

when a cop shoots an unarmed minority during a traffic stop argument: should have complied, cop felt rightly threatened, good shoot

when a cop shoots a rioter climbing through a broken window into the speaker's lobby with clear intent to harm those inside while cops yell at her to get back: she didn't deserve it, cop should have shown restraint, she was just going for a walk in the capitol

the double standards are enough to make your head spin
