100 percent true. And Georgia/Romania/Slovakia (among others) still today.

"I didn't vote for Elon Musk, he's an unelected bureaucrat."

I didn't vote for the FBI, USAID, NED, CFPB, OSHA, DOE, ATF, CIA, PBS, CPB-NPR/PBS, FDA, WHO, UN, IRS, Federal Reserve, EPA , Fauci, or CDC.

"Fauci's NIAID and @USAID sent over $40M in U.S. taxpayer "support" to a scientist in Wuhan who was working on "bat coronavirus emergence" research, who also became "patient zero" for COVID-19?

And the completion date for that funding was … in 2019???…"

Looks like the "democrats" and Deep Staters got what they needed just in time to sabotage the 2020 election, huh?
And then 2024 happened. Talk about a boomerang.

Trump wouldn't have gotten half the stuff done in four years if he had won in 2020 as he has been able to do in his first two weeks now. He is literally draining the swamp more rapidly than they can fill it back up.

Edit - And Pam Bondi is about to be very busy.
When one looks back at the insane Biden(*) pardonapalooza fest in his last month/weeks in office, and the fanatical, desperate attempts to 'get Trump' including via funding from USAID for various offices such as those in NY, it all makes more sense now.

The Tides Center ($25 million from USAID), and it's spin out, the "Fair and Just Prosecution," USAID-funded, and Soros prosecutors (including Bragg office etc) all neatly tie together.

(Caution, nsfw language, strongly recommend watching or listening to this for 15 minutes when one gets a chance).

Trump is now…on this **** is my point.

**** THESE PEOPLE!!

Thread title says "Trump shuts down USAID", but the story is all about Musk saying he's going to do it. So I guess now we're cool with unelected bureaucrats taking control of government?

Nice principles you got there.
Musk is not shutting it down. Trump is.

Here is a little education for you. The process is:
1. Musk finds bull**** waste,
2. Musk brings it to Trump,
3. Trump either approves or not
4. If Trump approves, the plan is carried out

I am GREATFUL that an outsider can look at a budget/org and make recommendations to Trump. Our country was almost totally ****ED by unelected bureaucrats. Now, these asswipes are being kicked out.

About time.

So where's the order from Trump directing Musk to do this? Don't worry, I'll wait for you to find it...
Elon Musk: Donald Trump 'agreed' USAID should be shut down

Trump has agreed. That's why it's going to progress.

You see, somethings are just not that hard.

Is the lib newsletter spewing "unelected bureaucrats" narrative? If so, you should get your money back on this week's issue.
USAID was created in 1961 via the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961.

Given that it was a law created by Congress, all Trump can do is fire everyone and not refill those positions.

But that doesn't "end" USAID. The next democrat president can simply re-fill those positions and bring USAID right back to where it was on January 19, 2025.

While a 4 year savings is nice, Trump has to get Congress to act to end USAID (and the Dept. of Education and whatever else he want to eliminate) so that it would require another act of Congress to bring the program back. THAT is the only thing that will actually "eliminate" USAID rather than simply hitting the pause button while Trump is POTUS.

We would have to get to a balanced budget first - which would take $2 trillion in cuts.

I don't see the debt ever getting "paid down". We have to keep growing the economy (and revenues) at a faster rate than we are adding to the debt so we eventually get it back down to a reasonable percentage of GDP.

Entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid & Interest) completely consumes the tax money the government takes in. As such, running the current operations of the federal government mandates more debt.

The ONLY way to ever pay down the debt is to have MAJOR changes to entitlements but there is zero appetite from either politicians or the public to do so.

From an exclusively budgetary standpoint, cutting these departments is insignificant.

NOTE for those with reading comprehension difficulties: that doesn't mean cutting programs like USAID shouldn't be done or is a bad thing. It simply means that doing so doesn't do much for the deficit/debt.

In the Senate, 69 voted in favor and 22 voted against separating education from the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. In the House of Representatives, 215 voted in favor and 201 voted against. President Carter signed the bill on October 17, 1979.

I guarantee you these ass holes are already reaching out to foreign countries to stage some "disaster" that occurred as a result of lack of aid so they can point the finger at Trump and hold him responsible.

This is false. Department of Education Organization Act established the Department of Education. Jimmy Carter issued Executive Order 12212 which specifically references the authority vested in him by Congress to begin establishing the department. If you want to eliminate the Department of Education, then it must be eliminated by Congress just as it was created by Congress.

I stand corrected. Thank you

The U.S. Department of Education was established as a separate Cabinet-level department on **October 17, 1979**, when President **Jimmy Carter** signed the **Department of Education Organization Act**. It officially began operations on **May 4, 1980**.

### Background:
- Before its creation, federal education responsibilities were handled by the **Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW)**.
- The push to create a standalone department came largely from teachers' unions, especially the **National Education Association (NEA)**, which endorsed Carter in 1976 in exchange for his support for the department.
- Conservatives and many Republicans opposed the move, seeing it as unnecessary federal overreach into education, which is traditionally a state and local responsibility.

### Opposition & Later Attempts to Abolish It:
- Ronald Reagan and many Republicans opposed the department from the start and sought to **abolish it** in the 1980s, arguing that it **centralized too much power in Washington**.
- Despite repeated efforts, the department remained intact and even expanded under both Republican and Democratic administrations.

Since its establishment, the Department of Education has grown in influence, primarily through **student loan programs, K-12 funding (like No Child Left Behind and Every Student Succeeds Act), and enforcement of civil rights laws in education**. However, debates over whether it should exist or be dismantled continue to this day.
