Those of us that lived through Dow 1000 and Dow 2000 laugh at your worry about a 1000 point swing at Dow approx 40,000. What a small percentage movement in the grand scheme of the history of the market! Not even a major buying opportunity.

My stock thing from IBD says:

(Biggest thing is Big Daddy Trump dumping on Fed Chair Jerome Powell, they said. Then: )
Quote:

There were more signs of weakness in the American economy as several U.S. leading economic indicators came in below expectations Monday.

The Conference Board's Leading Economic Index fell 0.7%, to 100.5, in March vs. the prior month's upwardly revised decline of 0.2%. Economists had expected a decline of 0.5%, according to Econoday.

The business think tank said March's decline was concentrated among three components consumer expectations dropped further, stock prices suffered their biggest monthly decline since September 2022 and new manufacturing orders softened.

"The U.S. LEI for March pointed to slowing economic activity ahead. That said, the data does not suggest that a recession has begun or is about to start," Conference Board senior manager Justyna Zabinska-La Monica said in a news release.

The Conference Board also downwardly revised its U.S. GDP growth forecast for 2025 from 2% to 1.6%. Zabinska-La Monica said this is "somewhat below the economy's potential."

Perspective: We are back to where we were almost literally one year ago. So, if you can't withstand a change back to one year ago then you still have a long way to go anyway.

The bond market seems to be what got their attention last time. It's having another bad day so far. We'll see if it gets better. The other thing that should get their attention is the jobs outlook. If we start seeing layoffs and ugly jobs reports, I think we will see another deescalation.

At your age, you should be mostly in bonds. I'll never understand this mentatlity.

Well, look how they acted over that weekend. Literally acted like the sky was falling, and it was gonna be a black Monday. None of that happened. It corrected very quickly.

The stock market is a long game. I would suggest many don't play it if they're gonna get upset day today… only when Trump is in office. Somehow it didn't affect them for the last four years.

Nope but there is a path forward.

We're addicted to cheap disposable goods. America has a consumption problem. That has to shift.

if we start making quality goods here, that aren't designed with planned obsolescence, and that can actually be easily repaired by third parties we'd be on track to a better path. I'd much rather buy something quality, that can be fixed, for a higher price than cheap crap that has to get thrown away when it breaks in 3-6 months.

Creates manufacturing, service, and repair jobs across the country. We have the skillset here to do it. Corporate America has to quit chasing profits as aggressively

You are WAY overestimating the power the retail investor has in these markets.

The big boys are the one initiating this (i.e - Sovereign wealth funds, family offices, central banks, hedge funds, etc)

The little guys (all of us) are just along for the ride......
