🚨 Today my office has charged Congresswoman McIver with violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 111(a)(1) for assaulting, impeding and interfering with law enforcement. pic.twitter.com/TV00uwRtKq
— US Attorney Habba (@USAttyHabba) May 19, 2025
She should now be expelled from the House per above.Quote:
As RedState reported, McIver was seen on video throwing punches at and shoving ICE agents after they tried to prevent her from entering a checkpoint. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on site for trespassing after a Homeland Security official showed up to deal with the situation. McIver was allowed to leave, though, leaving open the question of whether she'd face consequences.
…I'm glad to see that happened. You can not have congressional members existing above the law. As I said above, any normal person would have been on the ground in handcuffs had they done what McIver did, and had she been allowed to get away with her behavior, it would have signaled open season on immigration authorities.Quote:
If a normal American did what McIver did, they'd have been slammed to the ground and handcuffed. It wouldn't even be a question that they'd be charged with a crime, and they'd almost certainly lose their employment as well. Congressional members are supposed to have some sense of decorum and respect. Cussing out rank-and-file ICE agents and throwing punches at them is not those things, to say the least.
House Majority Leader Mike Johnson should quickly bring a resolution to expel McIver from Congress to the floor. Even if it doesn't pass, and it just might, it will at least make the entire Democrat caucus own her ridiculous behavior. Further, the DOJ should file charges. McIver cannot be allowed to get away with what she did simply because of her status. If that happens, it'll be open sense for this kind of dangerous, grandstanding garbage. The time to nip this in the bud is now. Make an example of her, and do it harshly.
It was mentioned this morning on Fox & Friends that Mayor Barakas agreed to cooperate when his charges were dropped.Bulldog73 said:
I wonder if the mayor cut a deal to implicate the congress woman. That would be fun.
When you realize demanding the police wear body cameras was actually a pretty bad idea. pic.twitter.com/QdiVAdY7cF

She won't get jail time. The maximum penalty for what she is charged with is one year in prison. Assuming her criminal record is clean, she's looking at probation.
She's only been charged with one crime as of now. Sure, if they stack on additional charges, the penalties could rise. But that's all we have to go on at the present time.flown-the-coop said:Man, I wish you were on the Jan 6 legal team.HTownAg98 said:

They are still considering additional charges and word on the Newark mayor is he is facing more serious charges if he balks at cooperation.
Whilst I can normally agree someone with a clean record would be considered for probation, the libs tossed all that out the window. Goose and gander and all that jazz for this cat.

And for this fat *****, they didn't have to make up charges. She is on video assaulting Federal LEOs in the commission of their official duties. She was demanding something she has no right to. She should absolutely be expelled from Congress.techno-ag said:

8 years is ludicrous. I despise these petty tyrants more than most but 8 is a ridiculously long sentence considering we let child rapists out after a couple of years.
Who let Keenan Thompson in the courtroom!?will25u said:LaMonica McIver Appears Before Judge on Federal Charges – Ordered to Surrender Firearms, Cannot Leave US – Faces EIGHT YEARS in Prison https://t.co/TxbELeJqNW

The problem is Dems would abuse it. If they won't go through the proper channels and procedures now, and only showboat for the cameras, think how much worse they'd be without policies in place.CrackerJackAg said:nortex97 said:

That's not a justification for why it's ok.
I don't trust government and the more widely it can be cracked open for any reason the better
I would think a group of Tribunes elected directly by the people would still be pretty cool.
It really adds a fourth level of oversight & check/balance to the Washington cabal.
So a US Senator or Representative should be allowed to walk into any area, anytime no matter the security requirements?CrackerJackAg said:nortex97 said:

I actually agree that a sitting US Senator should have the right to oversight (without hindrance) of any United States facility world wide at any time unannounced.
Or we should elect a group of tribunes that all hell breaks loose if they don't get whatever they ask for or are blocked from any type of over sight.
I think it keeps everyone honest because they would always be willing to burn the opposition.
