Interesting thread. Helps explain the ever-decreasing professionalism & courtesy that I've observed recently. Truckers seem to be going out of their way to be *******s and screw you around in traffic. Wasn't always that way...

What was the name on the side of the truck? Are these drivers running for big name carriers or for fly by night small LLCs that come and go as fast or faster than roadside used car lots and low bid tract home contractors.

Rack up a few violations, declare bankruptcy, reincorporate, get new DOT#s, and start over

I've worked in logistics and warehousing for 17 years. 90% of the drivers I've dealt with are Hispanic, Russian or Middle-Eastern. I clicked on this thread and it seemed just normal to me. Even when I spent 6 years in strictly Canadian brokerage, the drivers were all Middle-Eastern. I don't think it's any worse now than it was 15 years ago. Doing transactional business with these 3rd party carriers is a huge gamble. No relationship leads to thefts, poor service and double brokerage. These cats are here to grab quick money and then move to the next load.

These types of incidents are happening more and more often. Sec. Duffy needs to move more quickly to root out these illegal drivers and shut down the companies that hire them.

Gord Magill is an acquaintance of mine. A former Canadian trucker who now lives in upstate NY. He was very vocal on the Canadian trucker convoy. His write-ups are a good read. In the quote below, when he says "HIT IT" he means floor it past the truck.

I was driving in my town many years ago, and ahead of me in my lane was another car. It just stopped abruptly for no reason, nothing in front of it, nothing in the way and middle lane. I almost rear-ended it, I was livid. Then I drove around it to see a scared looking Asian woman driver with an "OMG" bewildered look on her face. I guess something came to her mind and she decided to slam the brakes.

Asian Driver. Woman Driver.

I have 30 years in the trucking industry and well over 2 million incident free miles driven. This upcoming spring, I'm letting the CDL endorsement drop. As someone with a bit of a health issue and restricted to a 1 year medical card, the amount of medical hoops I have to go through to stay compliant just aren't worth it for me anymore.

All that being said, the fact that these non-domiciled CDLs are being issued like candy to non-English speaking foreigners here on visas or here illegally makes my blood boil.

Try to do the right thing and it's an uphill battle.
Circumvent the legal channels as an outsider and it's easy as pie to get behind the wheel.

It's open season on America's highways.

Same thing happened to me. Combination of age, weight, BP, and admitting that I sometimes fall asleep watching TV, and DOT pulled my CDL that I had since 1986. I didn't actively need it for work, but I earned it. Now I don't have it because DOT thinks they are smarter than health professionals.

Have fun with these jackholes on the highway.

You can tell that driver didn't give two craps about that accident. He was annoyed that someone ran into him. pretty typical these days.

A few problems are interlinking.

1. A massive surge in truck freight from online commerce. Interstates are absolutely swamped with trucks.
2. High demand for trucking leads to lower standards.
3. More miles driven by passenger cars. People are putting 300,000 miles on cars, trucks, suvs now. This forces a higher probability of accidents of all types; but combined with 1 and 2 above and some gruesome tragedies are going to be a regular occurance.

I do alot of interstate driving every year. Both personal and professional. I can attest that truck driving has become a huge issue both in terms of the volume but also the poor decisions being made by the drivers.

What people want is a mathematics PhD with the reflexes of a seal team 6 guy but they aren't going to pay for it.

I drive a lot for work at times. This kind of stuff isn't uncommon. As a driver, this is why you need your gawdam eyes on the road and not fiddle ****ing around with your phone or radio. Just ****ing drive and pay attention. 2-3 seconds elapsed from the time that truck turns to the time it hit. At 75mph that's about 250-300 feet. Even with a reaction time of about 1 second, that's cutting it close if you are ****ing around not driving.

You just can't depend on others to act right.

Yet they get over there with their governor that is set to 1 mph faster than the speed limit and they take 10 minutes to pass the slower traffic on the right.

Pisses me off.

Even if there's a written test about the signs, they get to sit and study the sign for minutes.

A proper test would flash 6 signs at once for about 5 seconds. Starting small and getting larger. Then ask what the restrictions on the current road are, etc.

On a side note, look into the self driving trucking industry. It's developing and probably farther along that you realize. Stories like this make me root for its success even harder.

Different wreck but yes. Likely the exact same scenario at play.
I posted earlier, the company will just reincorporate under a new name and get new/fresh DOT#s.

Even ELD (electronic logging device) requirements can't stop it. Many states don't have the resources to keep weigh stations open and even the ones that are can't inspect every truck. You can bet the shady drivers are very adept at dodging the scale house.

It is just that they don't think they need to follow the rules and like to get away with it is they can. Typical 3rd world mentality.

WTF. I hadn't realize that mofo was illegal.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15009209/harjinder-singh-u-turn-crash-three-dead.html
Quote:

Terrifying footage has emerged of the moment an illegal migrant driving a huge semi-truck caused a tragic crash which left three people dead.

Harjinder Singh - who obtained a commercial driver's license in California - was charged with three counts of vehicular homicide for the horrific crash in Florida last Tuesday.
Video from inside his enormous semi-truck shows the moment he casually began performing a U-turn on a highway, failing to consider other cars on the road traveling at speed.
As he took up the entire highway, a minivan crashed directly into the side of the truck, unable to break quick enough to prevent the tragedy.

Two passengers were killed on impact, while the driver was rushed to hospital and later declared dead.
The area in which Singh was attempting to perform the U-turn was an 'official use only' pass.
Singh is understood to have arrived in the United States illegally in 2018 after crossing the Mexican border.

Makes you wonder if the self-driving trucks will be an IMPROVEMENT?? At least they won't get impatient, and try to pass another truck going 60mph at 61mph. No urge to be an a-hole, just for the sake of being an a-hole, either, or tailgating just to intimidate.

I feel bad for the LEGIT truckers out there, but if big biz and Democrat politicians are gonna keep putting illegals in the driver's seat, something's gonna have to change.

BREAKING: DHS & ICE confirm to @FoxNews that the illegal alien truck driver who killed 3 in a crash in Florida is an Indian national who initially crossed the California border illegally in September 2018 and was arrested by Border Patrol. Harjinder Singh was processed for expedited removal (fast track deportation) by the first Trump administration but claimed fear of going back to India. USCIS affirmed the fear via a positive finding of fear, and he was released on a $5,000 immigration bond in January 2019 after being given a Notice to Appear. He has remained in immigration proceedings ever since.

Singh was arrested by US Marshals in California on Saturday on a warrant for three counts of vehicular homicide in connection to the deadly crash in Florida. Photo of his arrest provided to FOX via federal source. Florida officials say the sanctuary state of California gave him a commercial driver's license.

More DHS background on Singh to FOX:

"According to Singh, he has no serious physical or mental medical conditions. Singh claims to have no known immediate relatives serving in the U.S. military and is not the primary caretaker of a person with mental or physical disability, a minor or person with a serious illness. Singh claims to not be married and has no minor dependent children. Singh is not a victim of a domestic violence in the United States or human trafficking. After careful consideration of all factors and available records, Singh is considered a significant threat to public safety and is an exceptional circumstance warranting enforcement action due to the serious nature of his criminal history. ERO San Francisco is seeking HRO's approval to place Singh in removal proceedings."
