And FYI, the FBI does not have automatic, immediate jurisdiction in all kidnapping cases; rather, it has authority when specific federal criteria are met, most commonly involving interstate travel, foreign travel, or specific victims (e.g., federal officials). However, the FBI often becomes involved in missing child cases (specifically those 12 or younger) even without known interstate travel.
