Can someone explain to me why it wouldn't be sufficient to register to vote with one's social security number and then show any state ID when voting to confirm that you are in fact the person whose social security number was used to register?
I know social security number fraud certainly exists, but I'm not aware that there are a lot of foreigners with state driver's licenses who say that they are Jim from Sheboygan.
A Social Security Number/Card does not prove citizenship. As long as you have legal residency status you can and probably do have a social security card. Same thing with a driver's license.
So that includes
Green card holders
People who have been granted asylum
refugees with legal status
They scan your ID when you go to vote (at least in Texas).
Why can't we have our ID be tied to your voter registration, and prove your citizenship? They scan it, it verifies I've registered, and am a citizen and I take my voting slip.
If you're here on a visa, or illegal, etc...their ID is scanned, it shows they're not a citizen, they dont get to vote.
Seems pretty dang easy.
