Two spirit. It's the gay term for their Indians / Native Canadians. Whatever they call them.

In other words, it's a mystical way for them to claim they can be both male and female at the same time as in Trans.

The ONLY reason the tourists resorts in Mexico have remained fairly safe is because the cartels have decided to keep them that way because of the income they receive... but should they ever decide to make a "point" with one of them, there is nothing that can stop them - short of American military, boots on the ground.

I have been to several of them and understand the, "I have always been safe there," comments.... but the reality is that we are only as safe at the resorts as the Mexican underworld allows us to be.

This is a reminder of that, IMO.

This coming from the person who ran for president basically unopposed because the Cartel killed the other 37 candidates.

If this is truly Mexico's stance, we should immediately put a 100% tariff on all remittances to Mexico, ban all American tourism to Mexico, and cut them off from any U.S. funding or support. We cannot tolerate having a narco state on our southern border.

100% isn't enough. I'm not kidding.

And, if little to nothing changes with our relationship with Mexico, then we know that no matter what happens or who in the U.S. is in charge, it's all pointless.

It's not as if this is the first time this has happened in Mexico, yet nothing really changed.

I won't hold my breath that anything significant changes, just like every other time.

Another memory I forgot about. The last time I was there in 2006 someone was murdered at our resort the week before we got there. Cartel violence.

At the time I didn't care because things were not as hot or precarious as they are today. But still....just another data point in favor of it being very risky to go there.

Mexican Presidents Press conference said 25 Mexican National Guard dead. 1 civilian dead. They did not acknowledge the prison break in PV. She said rhe situation is now under control.

That's not the guidance even now, although Guadalajara/Jalisco is "Reconsider Travel"

They should just go ahead and make it ATZ-S&N. This would cover things for at least a few years maybe.

Mx Prez for sure bought and paid for by cartels. But she is still a politician. What she says in public may be different than what she allows behind the scenes, and she's alive so it's working for her.
It will be interesting to see how it plays out for her.
While I would not enter Mx by car to travel anywhere, my wife and I travel to the interior and Isla Mujeres frequently each year. I'll continue that and thinking that tickets and expenses may get much cheaper for World Cup matches in Guadalajara and Monterey .

Safety/risk is relative - each of us has our own tolerance for what risks we take and what level of risk we see as acceptable. Just look at all the Canadians afraid to travel to the US right now at how wide of a risk range people think is ok/not-ok.

The brain also seems to have a way of adjusting to exposure to danger. Do something dangerous a few times without a problem and it starts to seem normal.

Like about any American city, if you stay away from places you probably don't belong in the first place, you will be fine.

The majority of my visits to Mexico, outside Cozumel stops on a few cruises, have been bass fishing trips dead in the heart of Sinaloa and Jalisco cartel area.

Flown into Mazatlan three times to fish Picachos, El Salto, and Baccarac. Picachos is only about an hour drive, mostly through small towns. El Salto is a 3 hour drive both toll highways (looping around culiacan) and small towns. Baccarac is a 5 hour drive. Stopped to pee and get snacks/more beer on the two longer ones. Never felt in danger, never given odd looks.

Flown into Puerto Vallarta once for another 3 hour drive up through Tepic to Agua Milpa. Same feeling.

On the drive back from Agua Milpa to the airport in PV I was in the front seat of our van talking with the owner of the lodge. We left at 5am so most the group was sleeping but I asked him about Cartels and if they ever mess with anything at the lake.

He said "No not really. I have to communicate with them, but they are not a threat. They are more like tax collectors. They want me to succeed and have as many people come as possible because it means more money in their pockets. Of all the lakes that have lodges in Mexico there have been two total incidents in 30 years. Both times, no visitors were hurt or stolen from, just confronted by lower level guys. Those lower level guys were never heard from again. The main people that have to worry about cartel violence is other cartel members and business owners that don't play by the rules"

I take that to mean, the cartels know not to mess up a good thing for themselves. If they do, then that money funneling in will cease. Point in case, one of those 2 cases in 30 years happened in 2024 at El Salto. One of the lower level guys was on the shore of the lake with two accomplices. They all had rifles. They called over the guide fishing with two Americans. They ordered everyone off the boat, then ask the guide to show them something and left the Americans on shore. Two hours later, the guide and cartel guys come back, the cartel guys get off the boat, and the Americans get back on and go back to the lodge. That news made it around the internet and Salto was shut down the entire 2025 season. I'm not sure if they've opened back up this year

For years, my take has been: it may be fine, but there's potential for things to go sideways fast and hard, with no warning. When sideways can look like barrels of acid and dismemberment, it's not a bet worth taking for me or my family. Yesterday has validated my position.

I have never understood the attraction of Donna, Weslaco and that area for winter Texans, I assume it is cost related. But if I was going to winter someplace it would be on a beach in Texas or Florida.

well stated

it is crystal clear from all these videos all over X that if the Cartels wanted to massacre hundreds of tourists

they would have just massacred hundreds of tourists

there was not a policeman or Soldier within blocks of some of these attacks.

They are not. I asked a friend here in the states from Guadalajara and she said her family said the Mexican Govt never gives out the real info so less panic.

Ah, if she says so it must be true in this instance, too. Note that the article says "a number of", not every image. Thanks.

Nah, they're pretty stupid; otherwise, they'd be laying low right now. This is all probably exactly what the US intelligence people want them to do. Come out in the open so they can track them with satellites. Probably going to be some big drone strikes in the next few days once they get away from the big population centers. Or, a boatload of SWAT like take downs and arrests if they don't leave the population centers...

Ok, but does that mean there are zero AI generated images of it all?

The violence is very real, but in today's world I'd suggest it's more likely than not that there are people out there, like the cartels perhaps, seeking to inflame the situation with sensational false images.

Ms o menos. They had some burned cars and shoot outs like here but nothing like western MX.

QR for the most part is a Sinaloa stronghold. CJNG has been trying to push it's way in but they haven't had a ton of success.

The violence is MOSTLY in the CGNJ controlled areas.

I say mostly because we did have a shoot out 800 yards or less from the house last night so it's def not a solid rule.

I have about 50 non AI generated fotos of **** TORCHED, cars full of bullet holes, and every type of personel carrier in the mexican ejercito has on the street behind our house.

I promise you more than you probs want to Believe the violence yestrday was real.

Obvs some AI images like the plane are fake but put on Mexican News and you'll see the Chaos Live.
