Is this level of violence in a tourist area unprecedented? I thought there were unwritten rules about keeping the violence away from the tourist hotspots.

roughly 30 seconds, maybe quicker.

Does a painted F250 and Suburban with dudes carrying AR-15s scare anyone other than civilians?

Things Have quieted Down Here.

Decided to make the best of it and Have a Big BBQ e friends from The Building and The Building next. Burgers, tomahawk ribeye and fried chicken. Lots of tequila and booze but it's a different vibe down here. It's like a celebration but also Fear of whats next.

Havent heard a helicopter Over Head or any sort of sirens alarms or gun shots in a couple of hours. EVERYTHING has been shut Down since about 1-2pm: buses, taxis, 7/11, EVERYTHING.

As much as you may wonder why someone would live here, 99% of the people are amazing.

What a wild day. No school tomorrow for the kids. Interesting conversation tonight about everything….

Doors locked to the house. Guard gate has ejercito reinforcements out front and our building has it's own 3 meter reinforced Gate. Still just trying to process things. The mexicans are used to it: We arent.

Good to hear. Sounds like this should blow over fairly quickly…..at least enough to resume outbound flights in the next couple of days

We personally think the turf war that follows will be brutal and size able.

Weve never feared for Our Safety as we both speak fluent spanish but the news of kidnapping orders hits home w it could involve your kids school etc. We probs won't he going out for a while at least in terms of large public socials like carnival.. That's Not **** we **** with or will **** with I don't care how many Gates are between us and them.

I'd also expect the local check points to DRAMATICALLY increase.

Brother in Cozumel rented a jeep for a week today and was just told to shelter in place. One grocery store is on fire. It's all over Mexico. I would cancel if I had plans in Mexico.

Same brother just got back from Cuba and was joking about his next trip to Iran.

I know, telling people to listen to a podcast on here is probably not gonna happen, but ironically, I listened to this on the Way to the coast last week. This guy is a cartel expert and he actually goes over this exact scenario with the new generation cartel. They have their own private "tanks" brigades and have sent people to Ukraine to study drone technology. It's really worth the listen because he all but predict this, but doesn't have any idea how it ends.

I wonder how long until we start seeing cartel violence here in the US.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I watched this podcast when it came out originally. Yeah the cartels are already using drones to drop bombs on their rivals. Videos of it all over the internet.

AND we just heard a HUGE explosion: Our Windows shook and counted 3 helicopters and at least 5-6 ejercito personnel carriers on Juanek behind our house. The PEMEX on Juanek & Kulkulkan is on Fire and The Road Is Now blocked. You can see It and smell it from the 4th story patio.

It's the PEMEX in this photo. Maybe 800 yards from the house.

Luckily it's 800 yards as Crow flies and a HUGE wall between us and Juanek (Road they just closed) and there are military tricks Blocking our enterance.

Wonder If I'll be teaching 10:00 am yoga tomorrow….

Hitting pretty close to Texas according to the above story. Cartel The comments section of this story are worth a reading.

Big question who gets the bounty?

Hmmm. Is El Paso airspace still closed? Possibly related?

Also this is scary. My parents arrived in PV yesterday and are staying at a resort on the far SW coast Vidanta for two weeks. They have been there several times before and my dad has an established doc to go see for dialysis.

He was supposed to go tomorrow but has been delayed til Tues.

I saw something online that the cartel's taking American hostages at the airport. How do they think that is going to play out?
With this administration that will not be a wise move in fairly certain.

No, the closure was lifted a few hours after it was issued. Basically a miscommunication between the military and the FAA, and someone at the FAA overreacted.

HUGE gun fight going on around the PEMEX.ive **** enough 5.56 and 50 caliber to know those rounds are FLYING no doubt. Cant ID the other rounds. Maybe 7.62? At least 100-200 rounds have gone off in the last 5-10 minutes. Sounded like either multiple grenades or RPG explosions (secondary to the explosion that causes the fire). Moving to interior bedroom. Pilsbury biscuits in oven…

Stay safe! Our daughter and friends are supposed to go to Cabo for spring break. If this was happening at their resort I'd be freaking out. Just had discussion with her that we are totally ok eating the non refundable cost of the trip if they feel the least bit anxious.
