For a while, but someone obviously tipped them off in 2025 and they hid some highly refined uranium, then apparently started negotiations afterwards with the direct statement they had material to make about a dozen warheads already as a starting point. Building a few centrifuges to finish processing doesn't take all that long, and the technology to build a basic atomic warhead has been shared around by despotic third world regimes for some time now. Stopping Iran long term always required regime change or periodic military intervention to destroy key elements of the program to keep resetting its progress.

Good info. Thanks.

Regime change seems like the less costly and more effective in the long run. IMO.

Probably not. I'd just about guarantee no one even considered that they need to get US citizens out of harms way until after the fact.

This 'guarantee' is belied by the fact that non-essential personnel were evacuated from Israel/Saudi etc. before any military strikes happened. For non-government Americans in the area, if they ignored the tensions/buildup this year and such communications, well, not much else we could have done without announcing 'this is the date hostilities will commence, please leave.'

The Iranians are pretty impotent, in truth. The damage to the oil infrastructure/trade in the region is fairly superficial, but for shipping for the moment.

More at the thread.

Iran is Afghanistan 2.0. They will revert to radical Islam shortly after we pull our foot off their throat. We'll lose a lot of young folks and money trying to effect lasting change. Destroy their nuclear capability and move on.

To revert back to something means you would have had to move on from it in the first place. Iran has never left the death cult since the current regime took power.

Nothing says "we are not preparing to attack you" than ordering all your citizens out of a particular area.

Fun fact, those citizens were warned months ahead. Months. Anyone in harms way was there by choice or by order.

The difference are the people. In Iran, the people want freedom and want the regime to end. Part of their population still remembers what type of place it is, without Sharia rule.

We don't need them to be a democracy, like the US/West. There are plenty of friendly nations we work with, in the M.E. who aren't run by radical Muslims. That's a giant difference, which makes all the difference.

In retrospect, we should have just continued paying Iran a lot of lucre to tell everyone they were not producing 200 missiles a month and continuing with their nuclear weapon ambitions and pretending with the rest of the civilized world that this was the case.

Iran blinked.

Quote:

Iran said Saturday that all countries besides the US and Israel may pass through the Strait of Hormuz, in a desperate attempt at coalition busting less than a day after the US bombed military targets on its oil-critical Kharg Island.

"As a matter of fact, the Strait of Hormuz is open," Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said.

"It is only closed to the tankers and ships belong[ing] to our enemies, to those who are attacking us and their allies. Others are free to pass," Araghchi told MS NOW.

Exactly. They want freedom but will they fight for it now? Or will the ones that can afford to flee as the Persians did in 1979? A very much minority of Muslims took over in 1979 while millions fled to other countries. They were not willing to fight.

As stated, just like in Afghanistan. I really hope Trump isn't dumb enough to send in American ground forces. Time for the Iranians to fight, those there and those who fled prior. Go take it back.

$200 / barrel oil, $15 / gal gasoline, lines at the gas station, rationing… that is an energy crisis.

A few weeks of $100 oil and a bit of pain at the pump, though less than under Biden, is NOT an energy crisis.

People really do not understand how oil markets work, even in the US. OPEC had that power decades ago because domestic production fell off. A true shortage of supply. As in here, in the US.

BUT prices here are on the lobal scale.... So when the international US based oil execs are talking about supply, they are looking at 30,000 feet view, worldwide. Where would they direct their oil? Where they get more $$$.

And THAT is outside of the US. Euros have been paying 6-7 USD a litre for years already. Our gas is cheap by comparison.
