Chances that normal shipping traffic returns to the Strait of Hormuz by the end of April has plummeted in the last 48 hours, down over 30% currently sitting at around 44%, following a number of strikes by Iran on cargo vessels and oil tankers near the Strait, as well as an attack⦠pic.twitter.com/gFy9BTDf9G

I'm sure this is fake news because we have been assured that Iran can do this because they have no Navy anymore.
Has anyone heard if it was mines or drones that hit these ships. My assumption is drones.
PS. 11mm bbls of oil has reportedly gotten through the Strait but it was all Iranian oil destined for China.

Our Navy really isn't doing anything. The told shipping industry that escorts are not possible now. I think we're waiting for French and British reinforcements to arrive

So we are taking screenshots of speculation-markets from Polymarket and Kalshi and tweeting them as likely chances and reporting that as "news"?
Trash.
It's a negative feedback loop.
It's exactly this type of viral "reporting" that spikes global markets.

For some reason, people on F16 love it.

My guess is it won't be the US that opens the strait - it will be Eurozone centric force or dictate by China and most likely the latter. I could see negotiations settle out with security guarantees by China of Iran given the strait is opened.
WTI and Brent are diverging. China is in a particularly bad spot. We've taken Venezuala off their chess board as a source of oil and a large part of the rest is through the strait. They won't tolerate a closed strait for long.
China purchases about 90% of Irans exports. They have real leverage over Iran unless the Mullahcracy just says, "Times up, let's do this!"

The problem is if they don't get oil from there, they bid it up in the rest of the world to get substitute oil. We end up paying more for energy here that is going to be a similar higher price as the rest of the world.

It won't do much for west coast. A tanker loading in USGC for the West Coast will take a lot of time. It's not a normal route in the base case. It could help the East Coast by having a more tankers available to send product up there.
