Oil prices up 10% after announcement of largest draw ever global draw from SPR and this makes me think this won't be so quick.

So we are taking screenshots of speculation-markets from Polymarket and Kalshi and tweeting them as likely chances and reporting that as "news"?

Trash.

It's a negative feedback loop.

It's exactly this type of viral "reporting" that spikes global markets.

Multiple tankers have blown up. I think 5 in the last 24 hours

This video is from June 17, 2025. It shows the fire on the tanker Adalynn after it collided with the Front Eagle in the Gulf of Oman near Khor Fakkan (off UAE). Old footage being recirculated for today's reports.

I'm sure this is fake news because we have been assured that Iran can do this because they have no Navy anymore.

Has anyone heard if it was mines or drones that hit these ships. My assumption is drones.

PS. 11mm bbls of oil has reportedly gotten through the Strait but it was all Iranian oil destined for China.

Our Navy really isn't doing anything. The told shipping industry that escorts are not possible now. I think we're waiting for French and British reinforcements to arrive

Didn't Trump tell the British he didn't need their help after they waited to long to join us with Iran?

Some of the circulating videos are fake. The strikes against oil vessels near Basra have been confirmed as well as attacks on a few cargo vessels near the strait.

Iran also attacked a huge oil port and storage facility in Oman. It's been burning for the last 24 hours.

I am sure that the video in the X is from an earlier shipping incident but that isn't what my comment was based on. The fact is 3 cargo ships have been reported as hit with projectiles in the last day or two by unknown projectiles. The reports are from UMKTO which is an industry organization. Hitting cargo ships will almost certainly be enough to keep tanker ship owners and crews from passing the Strait unless they are Iranian ships.

ETA. It looks like two tankers may have been hit by a sea drone.

My guess is it won't be the US that opens the strait - it will be Eurozone centric force or dictate by China and most likely the latter. I could see negotiations settle out with security guarantees by China of Iran given the strait is opened.

WTI and Brent are diverging. China is in a particularly bad spot. We've taken Venezuala off their chess board as a source of oil and a large part of the rest is through the strait. They won't tolerate a closed strait for long.

China purchases about 90% of Irans exports. They have real leverage over Iran unless the Mullahcracy just says, "Times up, let's do this!"

The US having to secure the strait militarily is the worst possible political outcome for Trump.

Brent Crude (International Benchmark):

Reached a peak of approximately $139 per barrel in early March 2022.

It averaged $122.71 per barrel in June 2022.

West Texas Intermediate (WTI - U.S. Benchmark): Peaked at a 14-year high of $113.77 per barrel in June 2022.

Yep, let those countries who need the oil take ownership for ensuring safe passage. Don't need to put US troops in harm's way for somebody else's oil.

The problem is if they don't get oil from there, they bid it up in the rest of the world to get substitute oil. We end up paying more for energy here that is going to be a similar higher price as the rest of the world.

I'm not saying we should put our troops at risk to try to assist oil get through but don't think this won't affect the USA.

Sure, it will affect us economically for a while until things resettle. But I'd rather pay more for gas than see our kids die for somebody else's gas.

The Euros and Chinese need to step up to help constrain the Iranians since they are dependent on oil from the Persian Gulf.

It won't do much for west coast. A tanker loading in USGC for the West Coast will take a lot of time. It's not a normal route in the base case. It could help the East Coast by having a more tankers available to send product up there.

He was on Fox this morning and said the responsibility was on him. His mistake, his organization, he owns it.

This is not Lloyd forgetting to tell anyone he was having major surgery to address a life threatening illness.

Wright is owning it.

If the East Coast and West Coast are worried about how to get domestic crude, then it would have been wise to invest in a pipeline or two. F the coastal elitist. They have their fancy EVs and their ban on fireplaces, gas stoves.

You get what you vote for.

Well, put up or shut up time China.

They tried squaking "Chinese vessel & Chinese Crew) on AIS according to Sal Mercagliano at "What's Going On With Shipping" when they were running the strait earlier this week. It didn't help. They still had at least one ship attacked and left abandoned.

If China won't secure both the Strait AND the Gulf then the other regional nations who depend on those waters need to step up.

An Energy Dept spox said the video was "incorrectly captioned" by "staff" and I believe it was addressed pretty quickly.

Nothing to indicate this was nefarious or even incompetence. But to act like Wright blamed an intern is just vomiting back up the biased take of Politico, The Hill, and such who roll with "Trump goon blames intern".

Ok.

Original post was explaining why the walterbloomberg account posted that US was escorting vessels. It was because of a tweet. The tweet was pulled down. Never implied anything nefarious was going on.
