"I hated EV's until I drove a Tesla…" seems to be an ever increasing thing to say on these threads. And there's a reason for that.

If I didn't have to look at them, I'm sure I'd buy one. Unfortunately, I don't find them attractive in the slightest, but to those who do, more power to you guys.

Thankfully, Elon opened, or rather, slammed open, the floodgates for EVs to the point that auto companies with vehicles that are attractive looking are making their own. AND, on top of that, the Chinese are pushing hard to keep making batteries better and cheaper.

Case in point:

Quote:

Geely's new 900V "Energee Golden Brick" battery sets new EV charging records, achieving a 1070% charge in just 4 minutes and 22 seconds and 1097% in 8 minutes and 42 seconds and getting up to 1380 HP, in a Volvo of all vehicles.

The future of EVs just keeps getting brighter and brighter.

The first solid state batteries are entering production in late 2026, so very soon there won't be much reason to buy a gas engine car. 600+ mile range, 0-80% charge in 8 minutes, and the ultra fast and smooth acceleration that EVs are known for delivering = why would you buy anything but an EV? Well, unless you're a lolpoor I guess.

It's still funny to see people here that are still in denial about the future though.

Oh, we're not in denial. We're just … still waiting. Every year we hear about how great EVs are going to be.

Have you test driven one?
I was an EV sceptic, until I drove a Tesla.
Holy smokes, that thing will change your mind. 3 minutes in I was sold. Haven't regretted it.
In 10 years, I haven't met a single Tesla owner that doesn't love their car.

Yep agree. My wife is tiny and just felt like she could not see well enough out of her 2025 Lexus Nx hybrid. Great car but man if you get on it the drone sound was rough.

Took her to test drive a Tesla and we never looked back. I rarely drive the car anymore. FSD 90%

It's perfect for anyone driving 100 miles or less a day. Costs 1/10 the price of driving my ram truck.

A bit of a pain on longer road trips. I don't see going back.

If they had a nice truck that wasn't like a moving triangle I'd buy one

Agreed, and if they did have a somewhat normal looking truck, they would sell a ton of them. They are missing the mark on the truck …

Yeah, that's going to disrupt things for sure. Elon clearly trying to compete with Chinese EV prices.
Those are China import prices. $11,000 lower than U.S. made. People are going to realize how much tariffs are protecting domestic manufacturing, how capable Chinese made EVs are and that they actually aren't unsafe/can pass U.S. safety standards.

That's base model Toyota Camry pricing parity. 363 miles of range.

Of course you don't like the Cybertruck. Tesla is ran by an African-American!!!!1

I rode in a BYD in Guadalajara last month. Decently nice vehicle.

I still won't ever own a Chinese car but they are nice vehicles.

Thank you. Did not realize that. I went back and forth with her, but always respected her. Damn, too young.

Here's what's going to happen:

  • self driving vehicles will continue to get better, better than humans
  • insurance rates will be based on how much the idiot human meat sack drives rather than the computer
  • traffic and lower accident rates will have cities consider banning or charging a tax/toll for those who self-drive in urban areas.
There could be a self-driving gas car, but there isn't one yet. I think greater EV adoption will eventually lead to increased fuel prices, few gas stations, etc...

The ONLY benefit to gas is range. For the vast majority of folks that is not an issue. And as others have said, have both.

I have a Nissan Titan Turbodiesel with a Cummins engine I plan to keep forever so I can haul *****

Range isn't the only advantage gas has. The entire fueling experience is an advantage. Even if two vehicles have identical range, waiting an hour to charge to 80% versus spending two minutes at a pump is a real difference in your day.

Most EVs are also disposable outside of warranty. Look at the values of 7-10yr old Teslas. You can buy a P85D for $8-10k today. If something major fails, the repair economics fall apart. An out of warranty battery pack failure on a Model S runs $15,000 to $20,000. That's enough to cover years of serious mechanical work on an ICE car, and unlike engines and transmissions, EV batteries have a finite lifespan by design. That clock is always running.

EVs are always drawing power just to stay alive. Let the battery drain completely and you're calling a tow truck, not a guy with a gas can. Come back from a week of travel to find your car dead in the airport lot and you're not driving home, you're getting an expensive tow to the dealer. Run an ICE car dead and a jump gets you moving in two minutes.

I'm not an EV hater, but ICE vehicles have plenty of advantages over them today. I'm sure that'll change over the next 5-10 years as infrastructure develops,

Also, there are self driving ICE cars. Ford, GM, BMW, Porsche, Audi and others offer autonomous or semi-autonomous ICE modes. There's nothing about an ICE vehicle that precludes self-driving.

Went to Turks last Friday. Atl Airport parked the Tesla. 74%. Came back last night it was 74% when I first checked it. When I got to the car it was 73% but that was because I cooled it from 115 degrees down to 68 degrees. You can remote heat/ cool the car.
