LOL. Prediction for that time frame? Ten years? Forty years? Sixty years?

The first solid state batteries are entering production in late 2026, so very soon there won't be much reason to buy a gas engine car. 600+ mile range, 0-80% charge in 8 minutes, and the ultra fast and smooth acceleration that EVs are known for delivering = why would you buy anything but an EV? Well, unless you're a lolpoor I guess.
It's still funny to see people here that are still in denial about the future though.
Oh, we're not in denial. We're just … still waiting. Every year we hear about how great EVs are going to be.
That you are ignorant of reality doesn't mean reality doesn't exist. Fast charging is in production cars now.
In consumer cars now:
BYD flash charging 10-97% in 9 minutes.
In consumer cars this year:
CATL announced new battery capable of 10-90% in 6 minutesCATL, the world’s largest battery manufacturer, has unveiled its 3rd-generation Shenxing LFP battery.

• 10% to 80% in 3 minutes & 44 seconds

Nope. This same metric has been cited by the EV boys a repeatedly on the old threads over the years. And every year you keep having to move the goalposts on metrics for EV success. And every year more and more of the EV skeptics on this board keep going to the dark side and buying them.

I agreed with your sentiment as little as a year ago. With the increase in charging infrastructure and FSD where it is and is going, I think your take is not based on the current climate. My wife was not excited at all about getting a Tesla but she didn't push back. She loves to drive and was against getting a FSD subscription. It didn't take 20 minutes for her to admit she was wrong. Once we it goes unsupervised ice vehicles got commuting will go obsolete.

The warranty is 8 years/120k miles, and it appears the vast majority will last way past the warranty. I would estimate 10-12 years or 150k, so a 3 year old Tesla with 40k on it still has most of its life left. I estimate fuel and maintenance savings of at least $2k per year, so after 5 years you will have $10k for a new battery if needed. Most people want a new car after 5-8 years anyway

Cheap Chinese knockoffs is for things like flashlights and vibrators - and various combinations thereof.

None of the Chinese EV's are available in the US.

If they last like everything else, which I wouldn't doubt, money is better spent elsewhere.

Have you seen the reliability of modern ICE engines? Their replacement costs?
It's not 1995 anymore. Basically any new truck purchase requires an extended warranty. Even a Toyota.
Teslag said:
Another factor people miss is that EV's have little to no maintenance costs other than tires and wipe fluid. That adds up when considering replacement costs compared to ICE vehicles.

Also, if they are so fast, why I am I constantly stuck behind one on the highway?

Because they are not suitable for our needs and decline to spend big money to be impractical?
How many 18 wheelers are EV? Why not? How many EV school buses have actually worked? How many EV city buses work? NONE for longer than a few months.
Fix those and then those of us that need HP and torque and towing ability will take more looks.

This was exactly my experience until I drove in a newish Model Y. It was extremely smooth and comfortable. Tesla has come a long way with their suspension. I personally don't know why Elon doesn't make a somewhat normal looking truck instead of the CyberTruck which looks like it's made to drive on the moon. He's missing a big segment of the market. That said, the 2026 Model Y looks good to me and is an extremely smooth ride and most importantly has FSD…

I was an EV sceptic, until I drove a Tesla.
Holy smokes, that thing will change your mind. 3 minutes in I was sold. Haven't regretted it.
In 10 years, I haven't met a single Tesla owner that doesn't love their car.
You know there's a stereotype, right?
There is a certain demographic who absolutely love them and I see them on the Seawall every Sunday afternoon.
Heck, it was even a story line in the show "Silicon Valley"

StereoTypes are for a reason.
Ironically i didn't know of the stereotype, when purchasing. We were going to test drive a Mustang GT.
Wife insisted we try out Tesla. I am not exaggerating. 3 minutes. And I was sold.
Told our best friends we bought a Tesla. "Of course you did".
That's when we learnt about the stereotype. It's in our blood, I guess.
