It's a Zimmer/personnel problem. We haven't invested in a DT in a decade until Mazi and Mazi sucks. All the rest of them are nobodies or over the hill retreads.

And then one of our DEs is really just a pass rush specialist that we spent a top 10 pick on bc we refuse to play him in the middle.

I'm not arguing with you, but it seems to me like we've invested into our D-line the same way most people do.

We've taken pass rusher & DE consistently high (Micah, Sam Williams, Kneeland). DT is not a position that any team spends a bunch of prime draft picks on.... we've taken guys like Mazi and Osa in the 1st & 3rd rounds recently.

We've also thrown a lotta mid-late round darts at guys like Golston and bunch of other names that didn't make it.

It's not a lack of investment at the position. I know we are giving Micah tons of crap right now... but guys... Tank has looked lost out there too and that's NEVER been a problem with him. Tank is as Pro as they get. Something just isn't clicking with Zimmer and we can only hope that it gets worked out!

Is the problem they havent spent enough capital on DT or are they just horrible at evaluating them? Maybe its both, but DT has been a revolving door of retreads and underperformers for quite awhile now. Should have traded that 4th round pick for a serviceable DT instead of a big name draft bust 3rd string QB.

Outside of Mazi, they have used very little draft capital on DT. They tend to shop for bargains in FA. Occasionally you can find a decent vet doing that but you're never going to get a difference maker unless to draft high or spend big.

I do remember a year or so ago when Quinnen Williams was being dangled out there by the Jets. He would ah e been expensive but he's a true diff maker.

They are incredibly weak up the middle. We don't have good DT's and Kendricks was good 5 years ago. DT and LBer is a black hole.

Cowboys need go and trade for Travis Etienne. The Jags are a dumpster fire, their O-line is awful, and ETN is averaging 4.6 yds a carry while getting hit in the backfield. Jags have no reason to hold on to him now that they aren't competitive and he's in his 5th year option.

I think the club exercises his 5th year option but that is for 2025. He is only making $4 MM a year. The question is how much would you give up for him. He seems like the best possible fix.

Yeah, that's the exact situation that I was thinking about for RB... a team that is falling apart with a really good RB with an expiring contract. I would think a 3rd rounder is the most you would have to give up for a RB.

But the Cowboys do not look good right now... if we don't see some significant improvements quickly it's probably game over for the two Mike's and we probably don't need to make any major moves or get rid of any premium picks.

Shoulda drafted Achane in the 2nd instead of Schoon. Bummer!

Have y'all seen the list of draft eligible running backs for this next draft? I think it would be extremely short sighted to trade draft capital for a short term rental when there are really good RBs you can have for 4 years available in the 3rd or 4th round.

We are talking about Rocket Sanders and Quinshon Judkins rounding out the back of the top 10 RBs.

Yeah, RB would help but the middle of the defense is my biggest concern.

DT and run stuffing LBer are the biggest weakness. Overshown is a good run and chase LBer but kendricks is old and doesn't have the oomph in the middle we need. Now, Mazi did look better. We'll see if he can build on that.

When bland gets back, I think the secondary will be fine.

I just worry about the middle of the D.

There were a few plays where Mazi drove his man back in to the backfield almost in to the lap of the RB. I think the Giants' interior line is supposed to be pretty weak, but hopefully it's a co fidence booster he can build on.

Yeah, as much as RB is a need, not a fan of spending draft pick capital and having to lay out big $$$ to extend an RB with 3+ years of tread lost. This is not a championship defense. This team isn't winning anything big this year. I'd address RB and defense in the draft. And I'd likely trade Parsons prior to the draft to bolster what I can do in the draft.

yeah, the dude has the tools. He's plenty powerful. Just hasn't been able to do it consistently. And I haven't read anything about him being lazy or not giving effort. Hopefully it's just a guy learning how to be a pro and finally putting it together.

Address it in the draft, acquire draft capital from Parsons and see what Vrabel wants on D.

I think defenses have adjusted to passing offenses again and the teams that are excelling know how to run the football and pass off of that.

I agree. QB play feels really, really down this year. However, Baker and Sam Darnold are proof that that position is more about the coaching and system than anything else.
