Just another reason I hate Jerry. He's clearly going to re-sign fat mike and he just has to have his moment in the sun because of his ****ing ego. Get ready for an 11th hour signing that could have happened already. And just because it's obvious won't make it any less annoying when it does

Just curious. Who would you like them to pursue?

Ben Johnson. Deion Sanders. Steve Sarkisian. Jimmy Johnson. Vince Lombardi. Sean McVay. Dan Campbell. Pete Carroll.

Mac has won a lot of games with Gag Prescott as his quarterback.

"Gag Prescott" was won a lot of games without McCarthy.

Without McCarthy 42-27

With McCarthy 34-19

List seems like satire but Johnson would be the realistic priority to me.

Much like Jerry, I dunno if Jimmy could do it in a salary capped era

How bad does Stephen Jones have to be at his job to be 24th in available cap space with a roster that seems like it should be 8-10 at worst. Hes been so so bad at his job. He's a smug know it all that really knows nothing. At least Jerry has a little charm and accomplished a little something in the early 90s. Stephen has no redeeming qualities. It's so incredibly frustrating what how this family mismanages this organization.. Also really don't understand this strategy with managing the McCarthy situation.

Arent they still paying off huge deals that didnt work out and eat up cash? Jaylon Smith, Gallup, Zeke, Fredrick, etc that either were injured or kept kicking the can down the road? Stephen does seem like a dunce and I have heard that he is not well liked or respected. They are so bad at being proactive and I stand by my statement that they have cash flow issues when it comes to the Cowboys that prevent them from keeping up with payroll.

I wouldn't be surprised. Every NFL team pushes contracts further and further back, so I'd assume everyone is paying at least a few guys who haven't been on the team in 3 or 4 years. That being said, I would be pretty surprised if they were still paying Frederick or Smith. Frederick retired going on 5 years ago.

Their dead money for 2025 is only $9mm but they are still 25th in cap availability. I'm sure they'll find ways to kick the can down the road again by deferring money to existing players (ie converting base salaries to bonuses, putting voidable years at the ends of contracts) which leads them to this - it isn't dead money but what has been deferred for existing players gets so big that it chokes you out

I've posted it before. I'm very close with someone who worked higher up in the NFL offices and then also was employed in a management role with 2 other NFL organizations and the opinion of Stephen in league circles is that he's super arrogant and always presents himself as the smartest guy in the room every opportunity he gets. Hes one of the most disliked execs in the entire league.

Cowboys fans best hope is Jerry kicks bucket, there's a big fight over control over the organization. Either it leads to a sale or next best is Charlotte gains control instead and makes decisions. Not saying she'll do better as I know nothing about her but at least there's a maybe (restores hope at least short term) factor with her. With Stephen there is no maybe. He out and out is incompetent and this team will never move ahead with him.

When the stage gets big, Dak gets small.

"I sucked tonight" - Dak, January 2024.......he left out the word "again"

But 4 years/$240 million, $231 million guaranteed.
What a deal!

I agree. They act like an organization that has cash flow problems.

Every year on the radio I'd hear about them bringing guys in for " restructuring" of course its guys they love who they pay even more money overall to free a little bit of immediate cap space now.

I knew Stephen jones was an idiot when he described the cowboys cap space as a " pie" and told players to come and get their slice of the " pie" while they were intent on divvying it up. The first guy who went into his office for a deal was lael collins and it was a massive bust.

Whats most frustrating is this year was there for the taking. Coming off three straight 12-win seasons. Get yourself a starting running back, shore up the interior, and bam, you're a 12-13 win team. The fact they somehow won 7 games trotting out the worst backfield in football, missing their starting QB and secondary for most the season, and having Mazi Smith on the roster makes it all the more infuriating.

David Moore's latest:
Quote:

Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy met for a third consecutive day about the head coach's fate with the Cowboys, two people with knowledge of the process told The Dallas Morning News.

Discussions are expected to continue Friday.

Not really sure what else is left to discuss at this point, but if they're meeting for 4 days in a row, I would think that means they're negotiating the details of McCarthy's return vs discussing whether he should come back or not. But then again, it's Jerry, so who really knows?

Isn't that exactly what they did with Garrett? Met for 3+ days?

Moore said the other day that Garrett was in his office the final week of his contract while Jerry was interviewing other coaches in a different part of the building. I think the opposite happened with Garrett, they let him hang out until the contract expired. I would imagine big Mike is probably working through if he needs a new DC and some personnel decisions. Moore said its up in the air if Zimmer wants to come back.

So will we draft Kyren Lacy or just sign him as a UDFA?

Give me Egbuka at 12 or maybe a trade back and Judkins in the 2nd or 3rd. Those boys would provide much needed playmaking and juice to this offense.

Marcus Freeman to the Cowboys? Would you do it?

The better question is why would HE? Dallas is running into issue of power. Why would ANY coach take a job running a team knowing they wouldn't have control over personnel decisions and their own roster? It makes winning that much harder.

Mike Tomlin might be available. Of course he disappears at the end of a season too…

I have almost no clue what to think about Tomlin. On one hand I think it's extremely impressive to win 10 games a year for 15 years with teams of all shapes and sizes; but on the other hand he hasn't been able to do a damn thing since Rothlesbergers last years, and they feel like they haven't adjusted to what modern football is at all. They feel like a team with an extremely hard capped ceiling.

I know if I were were a Steelers fan I'd be begging ownership to fire him so we could get a hard restart.
Trucker 96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Steelers don't fire coaches. They'll keep him and pray to eventually find him a decent QB

Hope and pray as an organizational strategy would send me to an early grave with a QB. In the NFL today you HAVE to make moves to improve your situation. Fortune is always a part of it, but you have to give yourself a chance to be more fortunate.
Trucker 96
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Finding a QB is hard, especially when your coach is so good that regardless of whatever slop you put at the most important position in sports, he finds a way to still have a winning record so you don't get a top pick. Hard to fire a guy for that. They'll land one eventually.

And when they do, they will likely win a Super Bowl

Since Ben, he's had garbage at QB.

That they won 10 games this year is stunning.
