Update:

The investigator did get the phones but has to wait about a week or so to get a warrant signed to try and get into them.

In other news, he made bail yesterday so he is back out. Not sure on court date for Grayson County, Texas.

ETA: I also found out that he is affiliated with a local gang down there. I suppose that is not surprising however it definitely is unnerving. The deputy of the sheriffs office down there did not seem overly concerned about it

I'm assuming as an investigator he did preservation orders for the phone acct, etc.

He needs the cell tower preservation order ASAP, to help track down your equipment.

Yes I think he put in for the cell tower one already last week or early on.

ETA: you say that the DA/sheriff don't have say over extradition, in state they absolutely do. The sheriff can say "we aren't paying to transport people from more than X distance unless it above X level charge). Some counties are notorious for dragging everyone back, some notorious for not. It just depends.

Fair enough. I know there isn't any formal extradition process between TX counties, but a criminal court judge has influence and can request Sheriff to send deputies to another county. Unfortunately, felony theft probably doesn't rise in most cases.

This is where County Commissioners Court and a tax paying constituent comes in.

Spend the money...

Curious if you ever heard back from the Broker, about their insurance coverage. If they insured the shipment, it should pay out.

The broker did reach out today asking for the police report for their insurance. I am waiting for the county to send that to me and then I will send to them. If by insured the load you mean them having general cargo insurance, they did have that for up to $100,000. We will see.

I appreciate it. I took it as a hopeful sign that they're asking for it.

Hope the mobile phone data can be used to locate your skid steer... with more hours on it than when it left you.

This was an epic thread read.

Well at least now hopefully there is 1 or 2 endings to this, hopefully its one of these two!

1. You get your skid steer back; or

2. Brokers insurance pays you for the skid steer

I appreciate it. I am hoping for the best. Just trying to give the investigator some space this week to hopefully connect some dots. Meanwhile, I am just trying my best to compartmentalize this whole issue as it has taken it up way too much of my time and bandwidth to this point.
