There are plenty of third party vetting services available. GenLogs, Highway, RMIS, Carrier assure, and on. They exist solely to resolve this very issue.
Broker could have requested images from the shipper of the truck that arrived to pick up the skid steer, to include DOT number. The broker washed their hands…or tried to anyway.
The crappy broker is enabling this stuff to go on by hiring crappy motor carriers. This **** is undercutting the legit operations and causing additional, unnecessary strain on a tough industry that already operates on penny margins.

I have just been informed by the investigator that he is in custody.
(If someone could post the GIF of Mission Control from Apollo 13 that would be great, I don't have the ability since I am not subscribed - thanks).

It's all fun and games for these guys until the OB gets involved.

Almost successful***
I'd like to have my machine back if we can find it. This makes being out $40,000+ feel a little better though.

His address and personal stuff was all outta Cameron County, but he was on probation in Hidalgo County. The LEO's that were most active were in Cameron County. Thus, probably Cameron County LEO's prolly picked him up.
Now someone that has actual knowledge about something like this can help the rest of us unlearneds about how the probation get affected if he is arrested.

In all of this I truly hope that you are made whole and that the hijo de las cien mil putas that caused all this suffers greatly.
At the nascent portion of this thread there was a lot of running the RGV down and lamenting where the unsavory actions took place, which is understandable, but in my opinion a little undeserved. The LEO's that all got involved via a "compadre" network, and that was what it was, all did so at their own behest and a component of that was a little "hometown" pride. Hopefully they will see this through.
Now, the potential upside of this taking place in the RGV is there might be an easier avenue for monetary justice, or some semblance of it. The thing about the RGV is that it is chock full of attorneys that will sue a shoe lance for being too short if they think there is an outside chance at some "lana" coming their way. Some of the lawsuits in the RGV, the Lord help us really, are unbelievable. And if there is one thing insurance companies hate is litigating anything the land of El Pato. Hence as this all shakes out, and hopefully you get your equipment back, if the insurance companies balk at what, even a blind man can see, is theft by deceptive means then maybe you can see about a pinche abogado taking up your cause. They can be might creative down south. Good thing (kinda) about the USA is that anyone can sue for anything.
