They could take the shackles off DVB. Tell Fred to play deeper of the two.

Once Rashford is healthy you have a front of Greenwood/Cavani
Rashford, Bruno, Sancho

And a back line of
Shaw, Maguire, Varane, AWB

That leaves two players in between those lines. I see a rather large man wearing a 6 on his back.

Pair Fred with Pogba. Fred plays deeper and Pogba higher.

In other words play a 4-1-4-1

UCL draw is ongoing.

We got drawn with Villarreal. The soccer gods are laughing their asses off.

Add in Atalanta from pot C

And Young Boys from D.

Very favorable draw for United. OGS better screw this one up.

If McTominay is out and we run Matic out there for more than 10-15 minutes VdB should hand in his transfer request as soon as the match ends

Lots of talk/rumors that United are bidding for CR7.

Did I miss the part where we need a #6? And have I missed something where we already have 2 players in Greenwood and Cavani (much less Martial) who already play up top and Rashford and Sancho as wingers?

Dear Ed. Find a CDM.

Isn't CR7 to City a done deal?

Nevermind. just saw the news alert.

I think if you have a chance to get CR7 at that price, AND it keeps him a way from your intra-city rivals, you do that **** without hesitation.

Agree we still need a #6 though. although i did hear a nice hypothetical: Now that United have Varane, could Lindelof play the 6? Play more of a 4-1-4-1 not sure how it would work out, but he plays some really great passes out of the back that i feel like it wouldnt be a crazy transition for him.

Signing Ronaldo for feels and jersey sales over a center mid would be quintessential United. But according to some somewhat reliable sources in the rumor mill, it's a done deal.

Obviously we have bigger needs....this has to be straight $$$ basis....I am guessing they plan to recover the fees / salary pretty easily based on jerseys / ads / etc....

Edit: Can't help but be a bit excited. I started watching Manchester with greater frequency in college and the Ronaldo / Rooney pairing was a huge reason why....maybe we can get Rooney back too lol (obviously a joke).

Not going to lie, I can't help but be a little excited by this. Sure a holding mid would make more sense, but Ronaldo back at Old Trafford would be fantastic.

Maybe they will take a page from PSG's playbook and pay Ronaldo partly in red devil crypto so that the price skyrockets and they immediately recoup his transfer fee and salary.

Exactly. This is more about writing a story than building a squad. He makes us better but he doesn't make us competitive with City. And if we aren't careful, he'll block Greenwood's development. Greenwood doesn't need league cup games. He needs EPL games. He needs CL games. Is he going to get a lot of starts in those competitions with Cavani, Sancho, and Ronaldo to choose from?

Don't worry. While Ronaldo is still be a beast, he is 36. There's no doubt the game in England is far more physical than Spain and Italy. 22 year old Ronaldo handled the physicality very well. Will 36 year old Ronaldo be able to take the same rash, late tackles that he did over a decade ago.

I would love to see Lindelof get some opportunities to train as a 6 and see how he does.

Yep. This was more a PR move to have the Glazers show the fan base they "care". And it blocks Mason.

Well, if you believe some of the things written on social media, this was player driven, not Woodward and Co. Several players were allegedly pretty upset the club wouldn't make a move for CR7 and would allow him to go to Man ****ty.

It's just interesting the timing. It was all Man City for days, then last minute it was United. Done deal. Which leads me to believe there was some backlash towards Woodward and the Glazers for not trying to bring him back from the get go . If it was them driving that train for the feel good story, I feel like you would have heard about a United homecoming a whole helluva lot more. Feels like probably both current and ex players, got into the boards/owners ears like "we really going to let this **** happen?! To ******* City!?" When enough of those guys say something, you do something. Hence why it happened so quick.

At least that's how I'm reading it.

Count me in the crowd that saw the news and got really excited.

Also in the "wait how are we going to fit everyone in? We running a 3-1-6?" crowd.

I'm choosing to believe Ronaldo wanted to come back all along and him and Sir Alex set it up in secret to get City on the hook and switch at the last minute. No evidence to back that up, it just sounds good.

Doubt it was that exactly, but you know damn well if SAF called Woodward and said make this happen, it was happening. I have to think he was involved to a degree. But the speed in which it happened, definitely shows Ronaldo wanted to come back. Sure, he wanted out of Juve and would have gone to several places, but once United threw its hat in the ring, it was a virtual certainty.

Just glad Woodward didn't pull a Woodward and muck it up by trying to save every penny

Subscription required but a very in depth report on how it all happened. I'm sure some of it based on "sources" and potentially is flawed but still very interesting.

Lineup in. Sancho and Varane get their first starts. Somehow James manages to get a second. But we get the Pogba/Fred midfield pivot which beats the Matic/Fred possibility.

Would rather see Pogba playing at LW over James. Give VdB a run at CM
