Athletico is leaving Luis Suarez on the bench to start the match. That being said, I'm pretty sure he is going to have a part to play later in the match. I'm not really excited about watching him play against us. Many players have left Liverpool, he will always be one of my favorites. From Day 1 he played with more heart and tenacity than almost any player I've ever seen in red.

Its ludicrous that Barca thought selling him was a good idea. Watching him score against them was one of my favorite football moments of last season.

I hate these McD's uniforms so much.

Feel like they've been waiting for this game since that last loss to Atletico. Wow!

Pay him

Sell him in the summer and buy 3 more possible Salahs.

Maybe even a Pepi?

But isn't the point to win? He is a generational player and we aren't small club. I say keep him and try to get your money via trophies (which increases sales / sponsorships)

A lot of it hinges on the type of deal he's wanting. I would love to keep him, but I also don't want to mortgage the teams future by saddling it with a huge contract that'll pay him exorbitantly for past performances instead of possibly diminished future results.

Truth.

Liverpool run a very tight contractual structure for their players. The other big clubs have several players that make waaaay more than the top liverpool salary. Manu has 7, while Chelsea and Man City each have 4 players that make more than any Liverpool salary (Arsenal even has 1).

If you give Mo a 2x salary increase, you immediately open the door for our other equally great players (VVD, Allison, Mane, Bobby, Fabinho, TAA) to demand a huge salary increase and you destabilize the locker room.

VVD just signed a contract extension through 24-25 and his weekly salary is now $220K (up from $180K), which is now highest in the squad. Mo is at $200K/week....he wants to be paid >500K/week. This simply isn't possible. The most you can give him is $240K/week...he isn't going to take that.

As much as I like Mo, I think this might be his last Liverpool season. Make sure to appreciate it, who knows what happens after he leaves.

(Also - we are straight up stealing from Robo....one of the lowest paid players on the entire squad at 50K/week)
