Oh go f yourself, fans of any team are allowed to be euphoric about big free agent signings.

By your definition, Lebron was never apart of any team that had a chance of winning a title before going to Miami either.

I'm just saying, it's fine to be happy but a) don't set yourself up for disappointment, and b) don't act like any statement that isn't "the Rockets are an instant contender" is rooted in jealousy. Some are jealous, some aren't. I've got nothing to be jealous about, I've just been watching teams that everyone was excited about go nowhere for a long time.

Well, he wasn't. Individually Lebron has been one of the best playoff performers ever and was long before he went to Miami, but that Cavs roster was not good at all. They had a few guys who could have been the 4th or 5th best player for a contender, but no 2/3 guys.

By that logic, the Rockets are now a contender.

Howard isn't playing with 4/5 guys who absolutely suck. He's got the best, or soon to be best, SG in the game and a SF who's developing nicely.

I doubt the Rockets make any other moves this offseason barring a ridiculous trade but with Asik coming off the bench as well the Rockets will be pretty firm defensively.

Exactly tremble. Orlando went from a projected 46 game winner (had the season not been shortened) with Howard, to a 20 game winner without him. And Orlando had a center who was statistically similar to Asik this year (Vucevic averaged 3.0 more ppg and was roughly equal in rpg and bpg).

If the Rockets' win total improves by half of Orlando's delta, that puts them tied with San Antonio as the 2nd best team in the West. That's just by adding a healthy Dwight (his late season averages indicated he was healthy or very close to it), and doesn't include the many young players progressing.

That's why Rockets' fans are so excited, and rightfully so. This puts them right in the mix. Now, getting by San Antonio and a healthy OKC (without K-Mart or Maynor though) will still be very difficult, but they're legit contenders.

Based on what you and ryan are saying, you threw in the phrase "by your logic" without considering anything I've said because your argument is a direct contradiction of everything I've said on this thread.

The essence of my entire argument is that no team should be proclaimed a contender until they prove it on the court. The only teams we can fairly confidently call contenders in the 2013-2014 season are San Antonio and Miami, and those two only because they are bringing back the same rosters from a season in which they were contenders.

A corollary to that argument is that regular season wins (let alone regular season win projections), while not meaningless, are far from infallible. Orlando (2009), Cleveland (2007 and 2009), and San Antonio (2011) all had 59+ wins, but no one could watch those teams play toward the end of the season and think that they had a real chance. Just this year the Knicks, Nuggets, Nets, and Clippers were all considered teams with a chance by someone, but they weren't. You could watch those teams play and know they were going to get their butts kicked in the playoffs. You have to go deeper than counting regular season wins.

Counting regular season wins before the season even starts just makes a flawed argument circular. "The Rockets are going to contend because we think they will win a lot of games".

when he carried Orlando to the finals, they were beneficiary of a pitiful eastern conference and had no shot at the title

Except he did beat Lebron who already had a finals trip

He also beat the Celtics big 3 who had dominated the Eastern Conference up to that point. Anyone who thinks his finals appearance was cheap is just looking for reasons to bash him

The Atlanta Hawks are negotiating with Monta Ellis, per a source. I'm hearing deal would be about $10 million a year. Not sure about years.

Apparently Chris Kamen wants to learn from Kobe about being a champion.

Kamen and Lakers are talking.

Kamen and Pau with Artest would still be a well above front court. If Nash can stay healthy, that would be a pretty solid team until Kobe got back to shoot them out of big games.

So Gasol - Howard doesn't work so they look at Kaman? Lol.

I think LA will amnesty Artest.

It's really astonishing how frequently you Rockets fans can read a post and take away the exact opposite of what I'm saying every time just because I'm not conceding the title to the Rockets before free agency even ends.

Nobody has said the Rockets are the favorites. It's just hilarious how some (not all) are desperately trying to **** on the Rockets after they just signed the most prized free agent on the market and downplay the significant improvement this does to our roster

You guys still don't get the point. Many of us have been calling Howard an overrated pos for two years. The only thing that has changed is now he's your boy so you're sticking up for him. Is he going to turn back into superman just because he's in Houston? Maybe. But don't get your feelings hurt because some of us won't believe it till we see it.

I never took a poll. Go check some of simpletons threads from last year. Regardless, my point is no rocket fan paid any attention to it last year. Now that he's yours you think its about the rockets and you're wrong.

This reminds me of the time when Rockets fans believed that McGrady/Yao were the best SF and C in the league and were poised to rule the NBA for years to come, and absolutely would not back off of the position that Yao was a far superior option at C compared to Howard both then and in the future.

Ulrich

I called DH a HOFer in 2010 when Rockets fans were still disparaging him as a wildly overrated player who was pretty good at defense but atrocious offensively. But I guess now that you've all leaped from "Howard sucks" to "it doesn't even matter who else is on the roster, Howard+Harden=contender", I don't know anything about basketball and you're all geniuses.
