Apparently Melo took less than the max. 5/$124M instead of 5/$129M. So much more cap space.

3 years $27M for Lance Stephenson to Charlotte. Third year is a team option.

Weird. Isn't that roughly what IND was also offering? Maybe he had feelings hurt

Indy was offering 2 million more a year but a longer contract. Maybe he thinks he will hit it big next contract

Apparently he had a 2/20 deal with Dallas if Parsons was matched

I thought Indy's offer was around 5/44 which is roughly the same per year. Seems strange to turn down more guaranteed money and go play for a worse team unless he thinks he can light it up and get a bigger contract in 3 years. This definitely weakens Indy in the East - Stephenson was the guy that carried them on nights where George was off and Hibbert was sleepwalking.

Correct. It was about 9 million. I thought it was 11

Stupid move by Stephenson. He's even more crazy than I thought.

If he was willing to take less money to win, the Spurs should have offered him the MLE.

Yeah, but then he would have to live in SA.

Some analysts expect the NBA TV deal to double and for the NBA salary cap (which is directly tied to total NBA revenue, which has TV as the #1 source) to jump 20-30mm in a year.

That means in two years, the max for a six-year or less player will go from 15mm to 21mm.

So assuming he continues to improve over the next two years (he is already a great defender, passer and rebounder) and he cuts out the crazy ****, he could well get a max deal that will double his current deal.

For someone that needs to prove he can be a good citizen, a 2-3 year deal makes sense.

True, but a bird in the hand is always better than two in the bush.

If his agent can get him to put half of his take home away in the next two years, he will still be set for life.

Big if at this point. Especially when considering he left Indiana for Charlotte.

Charlotte has a pretty good team in place. I think they may pick up Boozer today.

Al Jefferson
Marvin Williams (plus possibly Boozer)
Lance Stephenson
Gerald Henderson
Kemba Walker

Noah Vonleh, Kidd-Gilcrest and Gary Neal coming off the bench.

Maybe so. I hope things work out for him and the Bobcats.

On the surface it doesn't appear like a smart move though. We'll see.

The third year is a team option, which means the deal is even worse for Stephenson. I can't believe he couldn't find anyone to offer him 2/18, which would have been much better for him than 3/27 with team option.

Grizz fans disappointed by Mike Miller's departure.

Like a wide open 3 point shooter when Zach Randolph has the ball, he will be missed.

Lakers also re-sign the (little) X Man.
Xavier Henry to return to the Lakers.

And Jimmer to the Pelicans.

Rodney Stuckey to Pacers. Not a bad replacement for Stephenson. Probably fewer headaches. Maybe.

Forehead Bayless to Bucks.

Drew Gooden returns to Wizards.

Evan Turner to be a pain in the ass in Boston.

And mentioned elsewhere, Jameer Nelson and Al-Farouq Aminu join Mavericks.

From Grantland article:

quote:
Thanks to the NBA’s collective bargaining agreement, the league’s best players are the least free. In order to move to a better basketball situation, many players must sacrifice millions of dollars. As if uprooting a family, changing cities, and immersing themselves in a new work environment weren’t big enough deterrents to relocation, the CBA essentially adds to free-agent inertia by artificially inflating the value of staying put while simultaneously oppressing the attractiveness of every other potential destination on the NBA map.

That is if course by design and most think it is a good thing that players can stay with thier teams.

Btw, who is still unsigned? I know Eric Bledsoe is, any others?
Iowaggie

The first post still has the unsigned players I know of.

Generally, I like that players stay with teams, especially since I cheer for a small market team in a generally less than appealing city. However, that makes the incentive to not win (tank) even greater, IMO--not only do you get to draft higher, but you have the opportunity to keep the players longer because you were so bad. I think there should be some consequence, or at least non-reward, for being bad multiple years.

That Scalabrine "letter" is absolutely amazing. I was going to throw in a few quotes but there are just too many hilarious bits.

Sounds like the Cavs and Wolves have a "hand shake agreement" to send Love to Cleveland for a package that includes Wiggins once Wiggins is eligible to be traded on Aug 23rd

The New York Knicks will trade guard Wayne Ellington, forward Jeremy Tyler and a 2016 second-round pick to the Sacramento Kings for forwards Quincy Acy and Travis Outlaw.

The Kings are expected to waive Tyler and could use the stretch provision on Ellington, who is owed $2.77 million next season, to improve their salary cap situation.
