Why would you use up cap space on McRoberts when you are pursuing all-star caliber free agents?

Take a look at that list again on page 1 of free agents, especially at the PF and C position. I think McRoberts is about the best they could have done. He's a quality big, and they need that.

League source tells me the Thunder, once confident they had a legit chance at Pau, now consider it a long shot to land Gasol

Unsurprisingly, Gasol wants to get paid. Can't blame him. I always thought the only place he would take the MLE is Memphis to play with his brother. And ZBo/Gasol/Gasol/Conley is a solid foundation for a team.

Charlie Palilo in Houston just said on his radio show Dallas offered Parsons 15 million a year.... Wow if true

Too much. I'm not shocked, but that is too much.

Is Cuban that desperate to try to screw Houston? What if they don't match, which I think they will, and leave him with the bill?

Not even Luol Deng is going to get that salary. So I'm still a little skeptical.

The salary cap went up, Dirk took a pay cut and has a small amount of time to play at the level he is at, and Parsons is the best SF in the division.

Seems reasonable.

What were the salaries that Asik and Lin are going to get?

According to Wikipedia, the max salary for a player with 6 years of experience or fewer is either $9M or 25% of the salary cap. So $15M would be dang near a max deal for Parsons, correct? And Dallas would have limited left.

I could see Dallas doing a balloon payment like we did with Lin and Asik, but not $15 mil per. That would make him a top 20 paid player in the league.

$15M I think, but $8.4M was their 3 year average.

And $15M for Parsons is not reasonable. Aldridge, Westbrook, Love, Harden, etc didn't even make that last year.

I'll laugh my ass off if DorkElvis ends this offseason with no Melo, LeBron, Bosh or Parsons.

I can totally see Cuban offering that kind of cash just to get Houston to match, and take them out of the running for Bosh...

I can too, but we still have 3 days to match any contract made to Parsons, and players cant even sign anything until July 10. So we still have almost a week before we have to match the offer to Parsons (if Morey chooses to do so). We will have enough time to figure out our chances with bosh in that time, and we will make the necessary moves. We aren't going to miss out on both bosh and parsons

Leonard gets edge imo. Parsons is better offensive player but Leonard is far superior defender

Technically, Kawhi is also a better shooter.

Leonard had a great series and is still becoming a very very good player , but saying Leonard is a vastly superior player to Parsons is simply not true

Vastly superior, no. But superior? Yes.

Cliff notes: Parsons gets more assists, Leonard is better at everything else.

Last regular season:
Kawhi: 12.8 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.0 apg

Parsons: 16.6 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 4.0 apg

Compare per 36 minutes or GTFO. Their minutes were not the same. It would be one thing if they weren't about 800 minutes apart...

Leonard shot better from three and substantially better from two and on free throws. More rebounds, steals, and blocks. The same amount of fouls and fewer turnovers. Higher ORtg and much, much higher DRtg. 50% higher WS/48 and twice as high in the playoffs.

Parsons gets more assists. He played more minutes and took more shots, neither of which implies that he is a better player. Jodie Meeks outscored Leonard, too.

Kawhi has a better 3% because he gets so many from the corner. Don't think he's a better overall 3 or shooter than Parsons.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Leonard shoots a higher percentage than Parsons from the left corner, left wing, straightaway, and right wing.

Parsons shoots a higher percentage from the right corner.
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Leonard also shoots a higher percentage from all 9 zones inside the three point line. If you're keeping score at home, Leonard shoots a higher percentage from 13 of 14 shot zones.

What do you think Parsons' numbers would look like if he swapped places with Leonard?
Ulrich
How long do you want to ignore this user?
His offensive numbers would be about the same as Leonard's are now (fewer attempts at a higher percentage) and his defensive numbers would still be a lot worse. The whole Spurs defense would be worse, because Leonard is a major reason for the Spurs' climb back up the team defensive efficiency rankings.

Of course, if we are going to try to control for situation then we need to remember that Leonard is 3 years younger.

44-36 isn't bad, especially given the small sample size. He's a solid scorer.
