How is the team looking? I don't pay much attention this early in the season.

I honestly have liked what i have seen. great effort for the most part, lot of young mistakes, some interesting and sometimes infuriating lineup decisions but its clear Pop is tinkering so i'm ok with it. 3 ball is NOT falling but the ball movement has been good so hopefully those start to go in. DJM has taken a leap and Keldon looks great. Lonnie is feast or famine. Devin looks ready to make a leap. Wish Primo would get some run just to see what we have with him against legit comp.

truthfully, could see them in the running for the play in game. they will be competitive in most games even against the top teams and take one every now and then. just need them to win the games they are supposed to (which with a young team isnt a guarantee)

Last year's city uniforms are the best we've ever had.

Jak out with Rona. Let's see what Jock can do.

Chet looking more and more like a possibility.

Being without Jakob is going to hurt us, I like Eubanks' hustle and effort! But he's not the interior presence Jakob is becoming this year! Just when I was telling everyone how much improved he was he gets the rona on us

I really think Jock has more upside than Eubanks on both ends. He also clearly has the higher BBIQ between the two. Eubanks is fine but he's not back up center fine. He's like 12th-15th fine.

I totally agree. Like Taylor said, I like Eubanks and his hustle but it is obvious that we lose alot when he is on the court. I also hope Jock can work into the rotation. In the win against the Bucks, Young looked better than Drew even though he isn't a center.

This team is gonna lose a lot of games this year, but damn they are a fun squad to watch.

They might win 20 games with a top 10 point differential.

Maybe with Zach Collins healthy (assuming he's the same) our defense can really come to its own and play old school style Spurs D. Our help defense is non existent and we often times try to do to much. The growing pains are here for a young team, and their heart and hustle make up for it. But, we need to play more fundamentally. Also I want Keldon taking over games...

We should have kept feeding Devin end of the 3rd and into the 4th. DJ has been the guy the last few games, and I'm happy someone is stepping up, but he got tunnel vision and stopped feeding the hot hand.

Devin looks fantastic. He looks like he could be a real star. He may just turn into a top tier 2nd/3rd guy, but gosh does he do so many things so well. And I feel like he's just getting better, expanding his offensive game, and getting more and more disruptive defensively.

We missed Jakob. The chemistry just isn't there with Drew in the pick and roll, and we seriously missed Jakob controlling the defense. All in all, this is kind of a frustrating season. I mean, not really, the team is seriously fun to watch, but it's also quite infuriating watching them be so close to being good.

This!

Devin had 21 points in the 3rd quarter and then never touched the ball again.

This might be the best thing for us as fans. A young team that shows a lot of promise, close to making the leap back into playoff contention with developing young talent. But with a strong possibility of getting a top 5 pick. My only worry is that the constant losing will affect their confidence and impede their development.

Also, Murray has had a great year overall, but it is clear he's not a 1st or even 2nd banana. 3rd would be a reach, maybe for a playoff contender. I think we all knew that already though.

This next stretch will be interesting. They play Orlando, OKC and Sacramento. If this team wants to have a winning season they'll need to sweep stretches like this. So far they've shown they can hang with good teams only to lose at the end.
Enzo The Baker

Right. I would say that the Spurs have had a difficult initial stretch, but that's kind of just on paper. Most of the good teams they have played have not been near full strength. I also think the good teams find it hard to find motivation early in the season. In other words, I really only see them having a more difficult time going forward, unless they can figure out a way to bring it defensively every night.

I hope Pop can break Nelson's record this year and ride out into the sunset after this season. But I think that's going to be a more challenging feat than I thought.

I think that's a touch harsh on DJ. He could easily be a 3, possibly 2, on a contender. His defensive impact and ability to get to the rim alone makes him that. I think him being the top dog, as of now, is a major reach for him. I think he's showing flashes, but he's doing so much right now his legs are leaving him with his long distance shots.

Where that is accurate and I think we are all disappointed in it - White doesn't look like a 1-3 contributor for a contender. Not even close.

Yeah there is no bonafide superstar emerging just yet. But each player in the proper role can excel. DJ is clearly the leader of the team. I think he tries to do a little too much offensively but in spots he's carried them successfully. Add in the defense and rebounding and I think he's absolutely a key player on a great team.

I'm not really looking at this like a 1, 2, 3 ranking. I'm picturing more of a 2004/2005 Pistons where each guy played a role and it added up to a contender. DJ can play that Billups role.

Agree to disagree. If you look at the 2s on all of the championship contenders in today's league, they are all-star/all-nba caliber players. This is the case for most 3s as well on contenders. I think it's possible (but unlikely) that DJ makes 1, MAYBE 2 all-star teams in his career, but that would be his absolute ceiling IMO. We won't make the playoffs with him as our best player, and I think it would be unlikely if he was our second best player, at least this version of him.

Regarding the Pistons comparison, I can see what you mean role-wise with Billups, but DJ is not close to the quality of player as Billups (not yet, Chauncey was kind of a late bloomer). It's hard to compare the two because their trajectory was so much different. Also, that Pistons team was full of nba all-stars and all defensive players (or what they would become a season or 2 later)...If we would have kept Luka, he would have played the Darko role perfectly.

I agree with you about DJ. I applaud him for trying to be the Guy but he just doesn't quite have it. I have been increasingly disappointed with White. He showed so much potential and he is above average on defense but he has regressed on the offensive side and right now, that's what we need.

Yea I feel like the White/DJ trajectories met each other sometime last season, and this season White's just continues to plummet downwards. It's the damndest thing. He still brings it defensively but man, he's been going downhill since that Denver series peak in 19.

I could see Murray becoming as good as Billups.

But that 04 Detroit team was pretty stacked with talent.

Ben Wallace - multiple DPOY, blocks title, rebounding title, 5 all-NBA, 6 all-defense
Rip Hamilton - 3x AS, solid defender, 3-point title, averaged 19/4/4 from 02-10.
Tayshaun Prince - 4x All-Def, Solid D&3 - 14/5 player that didn't make many mistakes
Memo - solid stretch center.
Sheed - 4x AS, very good two-way player with range and post moves.
Post Microfracture McDyess was a solid bench player.

Billups didnt make an AS game until he was 29, after he was Finals MVP.

Billups stats for his prime 03-11:
17.3p
6.2a
3.2r
1.1s
.423 fg
.399 3fg
.899 ft

Billups Peak was 18.5/8.9

If Murray ever develops a shot, I see no reason why he can't be as good or better than Billups. Murray is a more useful defender since he can better defend 3 positions and is a significantly better rebounder.

This year for Murray:

18.3p
8.4a
7.8r
2.0s
.444 fg
.359 3fg
.700 ft

Hit some more threes and FTs and he's pretty great. Wouldn't trade DJ for Ben Simmons, that's for sure.

This team is full of great role players. I agree Murray can be an all star caliber player, but he isn't there yet. Unfortunately, I don't see anyone becoming THE GUY to lead the spurs back to playoff contention. Best case scenario for this year is to end with a lottery pick while competing well and being entertaining.

I think Primo could be but he is so young and raw that it will take a while.

Speaking of which, he was just re-assigned back to Austin. Season begins tomorrow. I think it would be worth it to drive up for a game.

I like the fact that even though Drew started, Young got more minutes last night. Thad seems like he is starting to blend in better with the team and find his place. 6/7 last night with 3 blocks. I hope that trend continues once Jakob comes back. Young is better than Drew plus, if he keeps playing well, some team might be willing to make a trade close to the trade deadline.

Also, it probably won't happen but I would like to see Devin replace Derrick in the starting lineup. Derrick always did well coming off the bench and I would like to see what Devin could do with more minutes.
