How is Gordon Hayward not.a Spur?

I find myself conflicted these days. I want these young guys to win enough that they keep their confidence but lose enough to get a top 5 draft pick or hopefully top 3. I'm definitely going to be rooting for Houston, New Orleans and OKC to win every time they don't play us.

They can only beat teams when the opponent puts out its C effort or below

Need to lose more and play Wlaker 35 minutes a game

At some point, Houston, NOLA and OKC will shut it down. Spurs won't. So I think the Spurs definitely won't have a bottom 3 record which have equal odds of a top 4 pick at over 50%. Right now they are sitting at 6th with 39% odds of a top 4 pick (but also 50%+ odds of dropping below 6th) . I think that's best case scenario. I bet we draft somewhere between 7-9th.

Yes! Lots of positives.

1) The Jazz got ahead and they could have thrown in the towel but they turned up the defense and played clutch basketball.
2) Landale got some quality minutes and played pretty well. Would liike to see him get more playing time.
3) Lonnie drove and scored the game-winning bucket over Gobert. He has been more consistent lately and that should really boost his confidence.

Landale led the spurs in +/- with +14 in just 6 mins. He did a lot of small things and was always in the right position. Eubanks, who played like ass last night, should not see the floor anymore. Its really a no-brainer.

Again I agree with you. I like Drew but he is such a liability against anyone with a pulse. I would love to see Landale take his minutes and get more experience.

Agree. Drew played terribly. He hustles and at times can be some great energy off the bench, but he has been pretty bad the last few games.

Since it looks like we won't be drafting in the top 5 I have been looking at some early draft prospects.

What do yall think about Nikola Jovic? He looks like somebody that fits what the Spurs need with some of the skills that Pop likes. Good passer, good defender and looks like a decent shooter.

I don't know anything about him. But I say draft him based on his name alone.

He was really good in the U19 World Cup this last summer. I think his biggest question is his athleticism, but he possesses a ton of skill.

Speaking of trades, before the season started I thought that if they could swing a trade for Simmons it might work out. But now, with the way this team is playing, I would rather they went after somebody like Sabonis, if Indiana would make the trade. The Spurs have enough young talent and draft picks that you would think that someone would try to make a deal with them but you never know.

Sabonis would be incredible. I think it would be a trade similar to the Vucevic trade, with a little more to give up. Maybe we could get it done with one of our firsts, Chicago first, a swap and one of our guards/wings + Thad for salary. Doubt they would take Derrick as they already have Brogdon (and his age). They'd probably ask for KJ or Vassell. Not sure which I would give up. Vassell has the higher ceiling.

Edit: Getting Sabonis would extend Pop's career by at least 5 more years too.

To me, DV, Primo, and maaaaybe KJ are the untouchables on this roster. Devin is so disruptive already on defense and has a very polished offensive game. And KJ? If his shooting is real, he's incredibly valuable. Until this recent stretch of improvement, I actually don't think KJ is untouchable. But he's 22 and seems to be trending up as a 3 point shooter.

If we went for Sabonis, we either need to move Jakob to the bench or move him, and I like neither of those options with what we are currently getting out of him with his contract.

Ugh. I know Sabonis is great, and I'm a biased Spurs homer…but I want to give this crew a chance. I'd rather keep our picks and see what we can do with the kids this year. That could be a horrible take, I know that, but I don't like the idea of moving either of DV or KJ. At all. Like I said, I know I'm a homer, but I don't think Sabonis gives us what we are lacking.

Edit - because he doesn't really space the floor for us and I don't think he's a great defender? Honestly right now, the issue with the starting lineup and the team overall is White's lack of 3 point shooting this season and overall inconsistency. What Sabonis gives up defensively, he would make for in rebounding and playmaking. Spurs would be able to run some beautiful offense with him. I think he and Jock would work well together. But I do see what you're saying.

The thing that would give me trepidation about making a move for him is that his contract only has two years after this year, so it would be risky.

Also, I think it is highly unlikely that the Pacers make a big move like this with us. I think it's team policy now not to make blockbuster trades with the San Antonio Spurs.

I know what you mean about trying to give this crew a chance. I would love to see Primo become a huge playmaker that puts them over the top with another player that they can pick up in this draft.

If they could get Sabonis, I think a starting lineup of Jakob, Sabonis, Keldon, McDermott and DJ would be awesome. That way Derrick could come off of the bench which I think he would be better for the team.
