It's to the point where we are dealing with a troll. He's just having fun with us. Continuing to be a fan and hoping the team wins is one thing, and that's fine. There is not a single legitimate reason to defend this franchise right now. He's essentially arguing that the world is flat.

I'm not defending anything. I've said it's a stupid trade multiple times.

That doesn't change the fact that it's still a good roster. The third best center is Gafford, and AD can play the 4 next to both Lively and Goafford.

I realize yall know nothing about AD and how good he is. He's very very good. Get him surgery and get him right for next season. He just played a full season last year.

Caleb Martin was the 3rd best player on a finals team in 2023. PJ, Naji, Klay, and Christie are all good players still. I don't think it will be that hard to find a couple competent ball handlers in free agency who want to play a lot of minutes before Kyrie comes back.

At minimum, the team is good enough to maintain a play-in spot without Kyrie. This was the season from hell and it's still possible we're in the play-in (not saying I want to be).

If you get Kyrie back next season anytime before the playoffs and are able to be healthy, it's still a really tough team to beat.

I realize health stuff is a concern with AD and you have to add Lively in there as well, but I'm not going to be gloom and doom about any hypothetical injuries that haven't happened yet.

The window is not open. Kyrie is a small guard who will be 34 year old coming off an ACL injury the next time he is on the court. He will not come back the same guy. It's sad but All Star Kyrie is gone forever.

I think it is obvious what the Mavs were intending to do. They were going to gut their depth for KD and go all in on Kyrie, KD, and AD. It would have been a 1 year play (not that Nico cares), but I think the Kyrie injury changes that dynamic. I don't think KD will be looking to come to Dallas anymore at this point. That could have some domino effects on how the roster plays out with AD moving forward. He won't have Kyrie next year and I'm assuming now won't have KD. So AD will be the main guy on a flailing, mediocre team heading into next years deadline. He might not demand a trade this Summer, but I could see him asking to be moved by the next deadline if things play out poorly as I would expect.

Unfortunately considering how Nico and Dumont have doubled down on their stupidity, I would think Nico will attempt to move any and all final remaining assets in a desperate attempt to win next year. I still expect 2025 and 2031 picks to be sent out as well. If KD doesn't want in then he will find another aging "star" to go get. Nico is a walking basketball apocalypse. At this point most of the damage is done though.

Obviously meant in the context of the next two seasons. And I had already mentioned Kyrie's injury.

I should have known that everything needs to be spelled out in the plainest way possible for yall…

The KD trade will be Nico's final death rattle. Hope everyone is prepared to swap the entire depth of the team for 37 yr old KD.

PJ
Gafford
Klay
Naji or Caleb
+2 FRPs

All will be sent out for 1 last desperate attempt at NBA relevancy and when (not if) it fails, the Mavs will be the worst team in the NBA for the foreseeable future.

The fact that Shack is arguing there exists a window at all just highlights the horror of the luka trade. As long as Luka was a Mav, the window remained open for YEARS. Now it takes delusions of grandeur to see if one even exists at all.

If we do the KD trade and give up even half of that bounty, I'll have to sit out on my Mavs fandom until post Nico

**** KD and the notion that he's worth anything at this point

Thank Nico for charting new territory with a series of self-inflicted wounds the likes of which have never been seen.

And as far as Luka goes, anything he or the Lakers do are of interest as that is what the Mavs were capable of. Plus, they are a 40 year rival and team threads track rivals. So that makes it Mavs thread relevant in perpetuity. So f off with the thread police

The Brunson narrative has gotten out of control in the past month also.

He was borderline unplayable in the Clippers series in 21 and he was all but headed to his dad in NY by the middle of that offseason. It would have taken $20 million+ to get him to sign the extension and the Mavs would have been crazy to agree to that after how he played in the playoffs.

People have let their emotions completely get ahold of them.
If I recall correctly, they had a chance to sign Brunson midway through the 21-22 season as well and by that point, there was more data that pointed toward him being better than the guy we saw in the Clippers series, no?

No, he was all but gone before the season.
Yea, Im not buying the revisionist history. Brunson clearly was gone, I dont care what he says after the fact.

haha his $54m salary means we don't really have a choice. Just mustering enough contracts together to match that amount will gut the team and then we have to actually give the Suns something to entice them to trade KD (FRPs or Lively).

The window is closed. You're hoping it reopens once Kai is healthy and if he, AD, Klay, Lively, etc. also remain healthy…that's assuming all of those guys are still here next year/the year after.

Kyrie and AD's injuries this season were both "hypothetical" as well like a month ago, but it was so easy to see it coming, just like the future injuries are as well. They both have extensive injury histories and are old and getting older. It seems delusional to bet on their health rather than against it at this rate.

No, you weren't. Donnie Nelson purposefully did not offer an extension because he wanted to maintain the option to trade Brunson.

Everything that happened AFTER the trade deadline was a result of Donnie not even making an offer (let alone a max offer in summer FA). Brunson going to NY was the fallout of that decision.

Dirk won his championship at 32, which is 7 years older than Luka is now. The window would have been a decade.

Probably a smart move. I haven't watched an NBA game since the trade. At this point I either have to hold my nose and watch Luka on the Lakers or just continue not watching the NBA indefinitely. I guess I'll see how I feel when the playoffs come around.

Can't ever be a Spurs fan. Can't ever be a Lakers fan.

HOWEVER, as a Mavs fan since the expansion year and a Mavs fan forever, the best thing for the organization would be for Nico to get fired and Patrick Dumont to get reassigned to babysitting a casino in Singapore. The sooner, the better. And at this point, the Lakers winning the title this year offers the best odds of being a nail that could make that happen. What complete and total humiliation that would bring on those two. Complete failure at a level never achieved in the history of American sports. So I'm not rooting for the Lakers. But I am rooting for these two to be blasted from this town and out of the game forever. And if a Lakers title is what it takes to make that happen, well, Showtime baby.

It sucks and it's a complete rebuild thanks to the GM. Sell off everything for draft picks at this point.

I should be an adult about this and handle it with maturity, and I've never actively hoped for personal harm to people involved in a sports team that I follow. But I'm there now with Mavericks leadership.

And Jason Kidd pushing back on the Kyrie overuse injury narrative. He's officially cowering behind leadership now. He must need the money.
