I understand it. Kon has been great. He has infinite more help than Coop, but he's an awesome player. Flagg has had two stretches of this season where it hasn't been great.
That said, everybody knows Flagg is going to be much better than Kon long term and there's no debate.

I feel bad for Coop because he deserves the award and I'm sure it would mean a lot to him to get it, but as a Mavs fan I'm not losing sleep over it. Time will show that he's the better player and in 5 years no one will remember that he didn't win it.

It's so hard to not love everything about Wagler.
Every time I've watched him I've been impressed
He had no help today, sadly. Could have had close to 10 assists if guys made simple shots. He's always making the right play and the game seems so slow for him.
Now Reaves is out for some time too… Mavs may be in danger of winning tomorrow.

Sit every recognizable person other than Flagg, play hot potato until it's in his hands on offense, bullfighter defense.
Hard to do when the lakers turn the ball over even to your scubs or chuck up bad shots and don't care to rebound at all.
Bagley makes way too much sense on this team next year. Really kind of hope they can bring him back for a nice team friendly number.

Every game on is must lose and need the grizzlies to beat Utah. But it's been awesome watching Coop again.

FWIW...Russillo on his pod last week said he would give Coop his vote if he drops a 50 pt game to close the season. Mentioned how he's asked to do everything on his team vs Kon who has lots of help

Here's to hoping Utah is better at tanking than Memphis. Should lose to NOP, but Memphis/Utah is going to be a sight to behold.

I know these awards are narrative based and a 50-point game is a fun storyline.
But it is so silly that Kon was favored over Cooper and it took the 50-pointer to potentially push Coop over the edge.

There's been a lot of discussion on X lately about how can Kon win for being on the better team with better efficiency when Flagg doesn't have as much help and has better counting numbers across the board, plus is an objectively better and more versatile defender. If Kon kept his PPG over 20 or 21ppg, it might be different, but his march was sub-17ppg.
Also, Charlotte was really hot mid-season and looked like they would be a playoff team, but then had 5 losses in March and are still just a 8th seed play-in team. How much can you really reward Kon for leading the Hornets to an 8th seed?
Voting Kon over Flagg would be pretty bad at this point and would look really bad in hindsight years later.
How in the world do the Pelicans keep losing?? I really thought we wouldn't have to worry about them in the lottery standings since they don't own their pick but they are AWFUL. Thank goodness the Jazz play both the Grizzlies and Pelicans this week.

Cedric Coward was +19 and only played 17 minutes for the Grizz tonight. GG, OMax, and Spencer were all positive or even and played 20 minutes or less.
Pelicans were losing at half, but the Jazz let them take over in the second half. Never thought I'd say this, but thanks to the Jazz for being so good at tanking.

The Jazz gave up 95 2nd half points to a team starting Kevon Looney, Jordan Poole, Micah Peavy, Derik Queen, and Jeremiah Fears.

Tied with Memphis right now for 6th. New Orleans win last night moves them to sole 8th. Correct that we can't be anything other than 6, 7, or 8.
We play Phoenix tonight, SA on Friday, and Chicago on Sunday. Obviously the Chicago game is going to be tight, and is a likely win right now. Another issue is that San Antonio is dealing with some nagging injuries to Wemby and Castle. They have the 2 seed all but locked up, so they could sit people. All of a sudden that game becomes borderline winnable if they do that.
Memphis plays at Denver, at Utah, and at Houston to close the season. Not sure how they win any of these games, honestly. Would be massive if they could beat Utah on Friday.
New Orleans has at Boston and at Minnesota remaining. They aren't likely to win again.
Right now, it really seems like most likely scenario is tied for 7th with NO. Next most likely scenario is 3 way tie with Memphis and NO. Third most likely, and most ideal scenario, would be sole 6th. To be sole 6th we have to lose the remaining games and have Memphis beat Utah.

Wemby needs to play one more game to meet All-NBA and awards requirements, and the Spurs have the Trail Blazers, Mavs and Denver left. If I were a betting man, I would say they give Wemby 20 minutes against the Mavs and then he's done. So that could help us. The Spurs also play incredibly hard and are just a better team from top to bottom than we are, with or without Wemby. I don't see how we win that game.

Naji has something wrong with him for sure. If he were on Utah or Memphis he would have been shut down weeks ago. PJ and Gafford should be shut down as well. Bagley was really good last night, so need to be careful with his minutes lol. I believe Cisse can play in the remaining 3 games, so that would be dangerous also.

I like this take. Wemby got hurt in their last game, so maybe they sit him tonight and then play him for a short period against the Mavs on Friday. Agreed that it would be still be rough is Wemby and Castle missed the game, as Harper and Bryant would just slide in to more playing time. Would still be a tough game, but I'd be somewhat worried going in if no Wemby or Castle.

Mavs would surely get a fine a la 2023 for that, but it would still be worth it lol. I just don't think we'll do it. The crazy thing is they are letting Coop run these games to try to get him ROY. They'll see that game as his best opportunity to lock it up by leaving a memorable moment in the voters' minds.
