I view the move for Jones purely as an effort to get an additional ball handler this year to relieve some stress from Cooper and give him more minutes at his more natural, and hopefully long term future, position. I don't think it's going to translate in to more wins, thankfully, but hopefully good for Cooper's long term development and avoiding fatigue injuries this year.

Agree that it definitely helps with that for this year.

I think the big part of the move was trying to secure him for next season. Kidd wanted Tyus Jones last offseason before Mavs had to settle for DLo. B Will isn't coming back next season.

Mavs ball handling guards for next season will be Kyrie, Jones, probably the draft pick, and Nembhard. Decent depth. Tyus had shot 41% from 3 the past two seasons. Hopefully getting him out of Orlando helps him there.

Wemby is an alien. You cannot convince me otherwise.

I did not see the Mavs having 96 points through 3 quarters tonight lol.

Flagg behind the back on Castle and pull up from 3. Filthy

The Spurs have decided to let us lol. Wemby out for long stretches and lots of Carter Bryant minutes. They whooped OKC last night, so it's not like they've played a ton of minutes in this back to back.

Naji and Coop both with 30

Carter Bryant is why we didnt trade for anyone. He's starting to play better and earn more minutes. +1 tonight. Fox is killing the Spurs. Lots of dumb plays and poor shot selection.

Spurs didn't pull it out until late last night, so not a lot of rest other than no one played hard all night.

Only one player played more than 29 minutes last night.

Only 3 players average 29 or more minutes and one is on a minutes restriction. The other was in foul trouble all night.

You can tell they think so also. They're extremely careful with him in every game.

Another clutch game and another loss. Coop is just exhausted at the end of these games. Love to see the fight.

Undoubtedly. You can't be built like that and stay healthy. I feel bad for him too because he legitimately works in his body and does all the right stuff, but he's just going to be a guy on and off injured by the way his genetics are.

He might, but he's also been doing flexibility stuff since before puberty. In three years, the only basketball injuries he has had is a mild pulled calf and a bone bruise on his knee. Not putting on weight should benefit him, because a lot of the problems that plagued other ultra-tall players have been exasperated by being so heavy, too. Being lighter certainly takes pressure off the feet, ankles and knees.

If you are going to look at 7'2+ players, the longevity history certainly isn't great, but the model of it is Kareem, who stayed lean and worked on yoga and karate while playing to stay flexible and avoid injury. Wemby's been doing the same stuff forever. The only time Kareem ever missed games was when he broke his hand punching Kent Benson.

Nothing is a given, but it makes a lot more sense than trying to muscle up like Giannis did, even though the biggest complaint with the Spurs fans is that Wemby gets pushed around a lot. I think staying lean and limber is the key, and hope that something freak never happens.

Back to the Mavs, I love watching Cooper play and I 100% think the Mavs are in a better place now going forward with Cooper than they would have been if Luka had stayed. Hope y'all get Peterson in the lottery.

Getting 1 again would be insane, but just hoping to get top 6. Seems that there is a tier drop after that.

Anyone in top 6 would be great for yall. I am not a big fan of AJ Dybansa because I think he is going to be a pure scorer that doesn't give you defense, rebounding, etc. I could be way off on that. Mavs obviously do need a #2 scorer, so that isn't the end of the world. I really like Caleb Martin and Keaton Wagler. If Mavs don't get top 4, I think Wagler is the perfect fit in at guard/wing. He can playmake some, but he is an amazing shooter and tough shot maker. He makes them at a high rate off the catch, pull ups and step backs. Then Kingston Flemmings will be a really good two way PG with good size. He's also from Texas (SA.)

I think Peterson or Flemmings and Harper would have a nice rivalry for a long time. Also Houston would have Reed Sheppard.

I gotta believe Kidd is done after the season. I think he had a bigger part in the AD trade than what is public after this post game interview. And, can you act like a manager, owner, barista , or some functional adult when talking to people?

He's always been a pu*** in front of the camera, but Mavs should get rid of him also. Time to start over and Kidd giving praise to street clothes and Kyrie is not the right vision for this team.

He may have been doing yoga forever, but he's also already missed about a 1/3 of their games since his career began. I think 7ish feet vs 7'4"+ is a different ballgame too. Hasn't had the added burden that a postseason adds as well. He could definitely prove me wrong, but so far not so much
Tksymm7

It's definitely possible. I actually think anything is on the board this offseason for the Mavs IF their draft pick ends up being top four or five-ish. I think that type of ammo gives them the freedom to do almost anything because you then have the foundation to sit on for 10+ years. Fire Kidd and get a new coach? Sure. Trade Kyrie for more assets? Sure. Keep Kyrie and try to be competitive for a top six seed? Sure. It just gives them a lot of room to breathe I think.

If they don't manage to get a top four or five pick and they end up with 10, then maybe you maybe hold off on anything crazy and continue with this team etc.

Yeah, I'm in the camp that you go with a complete overhaul with a GM that articulates the most clear vision on how to build around Flagg and that GM brings on his choice to coach it. They've got a really, really odd situation now with the dynamic of Kidd+Riccardi+Finley+Dumont deciding to be more hands on. I do not like the idea of turning this over to Kidd. I think he lets his emotions lead to doing dumb ****

Kareem was 7'2 barefoot. Wemby is listed at 7'4.

The majority of missed games were from a freak health issue that doctors have said won't return and can now be monitored to be caught early.

Injury wise, he has been extremely healthy. Especially compared to like Chet who has already broken his foot and pelvis in basketball injuries and has missed many games with back problems.

Wemby did have the added burden of carrying France by himself in the Olympics to the Silver medal and he might have won France the game if Steph didn't step up and do Steph things. And Wemby was still the leading scorer of that game out of both teams.

This is where Wemby's insane/extreme flexibility comes into usefulness to prevent injuries. This just doesn't seem right.

We should 100% move on from Kidd. It was moronic to give him the extension. I'm afraid we won't bc of the extension.

Klay missing multiple wide open 3s killed the Mavs. Cooper, Naji and even Gafford at times were incandescent. This team is going to be really good when they get a healthy Kyrie back. Also the vibes in the AAC were AWESOME. Naji and Cooper really got the crowd going and for the first time all year it felt like the old AAC was back.

Watching the Spurs though, I don't see them as a true contender. Having HB and Champangnie in your starting 5 is just a glaring weakness. Their bench is solid though. I was a bit disappointed watching Harper. This was the first time i was really able to focus on him and he didn't really do much. Thought his athleticism would be more impactful but i guess the rookie still needs more time which is understandable.

Tankathon 2026:

1) Sacramento: 12-40; 52.1% top four; 14.0% first overall (and one of the most incompetent owners and front offices in North American sports)

2) ATL (via New Orleans): 13-40; 52.1% top four; 14.0% first overall

3) Indiana (top four/10-30 protected): 13-38; 52.1% top four; 14.0% first overall

4) Brooklyn: 13-37; 48.1% top four; 12.5% first overall

5) Washington (top eight protected): 14-36; 42.1% top four; 10.5% first overall

6) Utah (top eight protected): 16-36; 37.2% top four; 9.0% first overall

7) Dallas: 19-32; 31.9% top four; 7.5% first overall

8) Memphis: 20-29; 23.5% top four; 5.3% first overall

Milwaukee: 20-29; 23.5% top four; 5.3% first overall

10) Portland (top fourteen protected): 23-29; 13.9% top four; 3.0% first overall

Going to be some horrific, war crime level shenanigans and ball down the stretch. Would not be surprised to see the NBA hand out millions in fines to the Owners for what's about to happen. Buckle up.

They seem to have Harper on a pretty tight leash. He doesn't play enough imo to really get into games and show what he's fully capable of. If I am the Spurs I am trying to move Fox this offseason and incorporate Harper as one of the primary ball handlers moving forward. I still think he's a tremendous talent, just needs to be let loose a bit.

Fox will be moved Summer 2028. PGs usually take 2-3 years to really develop and so playing behind Fox is a good thing. Next year Harper will be 20 and Castle 22. I don't think you want to only rely on two guys that should be in college as your only two playmakers if you are trying to compete for a title. Moving Fox in summer 28 gives him 3 years in SA after forcing his way here (remember, Rich Paul client) and gives Harper 3 years to learn under him. Fox will be 30 years old and have two years left on his contract, so still should be solid value. That is also the summer that Castle's extension will kick in.

Harper is solid on defense already (yall saw him stop Coop and get up to block his shot last night), but he doesn't always have it on offense (last night was pedestrian.) If you saw us play the Rockets a few games ago, we won because Harper just took over and he hunted Durant of all people and just went at him and made Durant look like he was a 37yo has been. Just absolutely smoked him on multiple possessions. He's not the player Cooper is but even in a redraft after seeing Kon and VJ, I'm absolutely taking Harper 2nd again.

Washington and Utah are the teams I am really curious about now. Utah unquestionably got better, and the guys they traded for are not hurt, so in theory they should win some more games but also shouldn't. So how do they play that off or make that look?

Washington also got better, but the two guys they traded for are currently hurt, so them playing it off is a lot easier.
Vessel
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah it's intriguing to see how they play it. They still have a lot of games against really bad teams. Basically games that they should definitely win if Markkanen and Keyonte play.

It will be very apparent if they are fudging it and we'll see if the league has anything to say about it.
