He's been doing it for the past several games. He's trying to lose.

He goes long stretches where the team is struggling and has Flagg on the bench for 6+ minutes of game time. If he wanted to win this game, Powell and Martin would have come in 4 minutes ago.

I don't know if I buy that they tanked it rather than just choked it away, at this point don't you want to win

B Will played like the final 16 minutes of the game. If he came out it wasn't for long. The entire Lakers run was with B Will on the court. B Will was terrible the final 8ish minutes.

Also Martin was one of the Mavs best players and he never came back in to the game. Mavs got gashed in the paint and Kidd never subbed a big man back in to the game. He's not that bad a coach. It was an intentional decision to let young guys figure it out (read: lose the game).

Good. He's too good and his contract is too good for anything less. Would love to hang on to him though.

Not all that surprising unfortunately. They'll revisit again this summer I think strictly from a salary and cap perspective.

The one thing that is certain is this team needs cap relief, so I feel they are going to try now to get at least one or two guys out the door even if they have to take a bag of chips in return. It doesn't help that your best trade assets have been injured on and off all year.

Ya i think Gafford will have to be a salary dump so they can convert Cisse and Nembhard. He's just not a useful player without a pick n roll playmaking point guard.

Obviously don't want to be committing to AD long term with a big contract and I'm down to trade Gafford, Klay, and PJ (in the summer). But I'm not sure the Mavs need to me making moves just to shed salary.

Mavs can be a top 6 team in the west next year with Kyrie back and young players developing more. You can make trades involving the players mentioned above with the intent of remaining competitive. Who knows, maybe even someone like Toronto gives you good players for the AD monstrosity.

Not saying the Mavs should dive in to the 2nd apron (they may be restricted from doing so, I don't know all the rules) but there is no reason the team should be scared of remaining in the 1st apron.

Ya ideally none of these guys should be dumped because none of them are actually that bad and can be assets to the right team. But the Mavs are hard capped right now (thanks to stretch waiving OMax to sign Dante ****ing Exum) and cannot find relief without taking less $ in than they send out and teams know that. It's negotiating leverage that's going against the Mavs who again, are operating without an actual GM. Nembhard and Cisse are running out of games they are eligible to play, so without effectively dumping someone, the Mavs will be severely undermanned very soon. Just another masterclass of Nico's ineptitude and this medical staff keeping players healthy.

According to Gemini, Nembhard has been active for 33 games and Cisse has been active for 26 games. The max games a 2 way player can be active for is 50.

That would put Nembhard's cap on or around 3/6 and Cisse's on or around 3/21. If the Mavs are committed to tanking, then doing nothing is fine but if they want to flirt with being competitive they MUST convert both of them to standard contracts.

All of a sudden Gafford can't stay healthy and hasn't been that good when he's played. Maybe it's because he's trying to play through injuries. Gafford was plenty good last year even after we traded Luka. PJ has been terrible this year and deceptively bad his entire career. Klay has started to make shots, but he doesn't do anything else. He has one of the worst net ratings on the team.

I think you can trick a team in to taking those guys for draft capital and player upgrades.

IMO, those guys need to be converted because they need to be playing. Whatever happens while they are playing happens, but they should be playing NBA games.

Maybe Gemini is right, but I thought the DLLS Mavs guys said about a week ago that both those guys would be out of games at around the trade deadline. They have a running counter going, but I don't listen to them as often as I used to.

There are a lot of playoffs teams that need a rim protector. Boston, Toronto, Hawks, Lakers, Knicks, etc. Plus Indiana for next year would be a buyer after losing Turner. There aren't a lot of legit rim protectors on the market, especially at a team-friendly deal like Gafford. There should be a good bidding war for him.

Ya maybe Gemini is off but I don't know where to find the 'active' totals since box scores only tell you if players have any minutes.

Spotrac has Nembhard at 39 and Cisse at 38

Yeah the issue is that guys like Cisse and Nembhard will need full-time NBA Contracts. And not to far down the line after that Max Christie is extension eligible starting in July this offseason, and he's going to command probably $20M per year.

I wonder if something like this could be on the table and would the Mavs do it? Would y'all do it? Am I overestimating our guy's value to be getting 2 firsts? It would probably include Exum going somewhere else, just to clear roster space for Nembhard and Cisse to be converted to standard contracts.

Toronto can convince themselves this could help them get to the 2 seed in the East and the Mavs would be hoping Toronto falls to the play-in. Toronto gets off the contracts they don't want off their books.

Would hate to see Naji go, but I think it would be good to get 2 draft picks this year in a really deep draft and move on from AD.

Toronto is trying to cut out of the tax with a move. This puts them deeper in the tax. If you can adjust it where Agbaji goes to a third team then it would work better.

Man just shy of 50. What a game from Coop.

Result works out for the Mavs, but he deserved to win that one.

Went to this game. Got to see the mighty Mark Aguirre have his jersey retired. Was cool to see Flagg go against Ted Koppel who scored 30+.

Also saw 70 3 pointers attempted. 70. Seventy.

Zero post plays to a big man on the block.

NBA is not the game it used to be.

Cooper is somehow exceeding the lofty expectations most people had for him. He already has more 40pt games as a rookie than Lebron James did...and it's January. That's insane considering most people (including myself) thought he was going to be a defense first, secondary option AT BEST. Even with the loss of Kyrie and AD, I honestly didn't think he had the capacity to score something like 49 points because his game was just so...'fundamental' (for lack of a better word). Especially as a freshly minted 19 year old. Like sure, maybe one day his game would evolve to allow for some higher output games, but to do THAT...TODAY?! Insane.

This kid has no ceiling. You or me or anyone else who tries to project one are fools. He's like the basketball version of Neo in the Matrix...he just learned Kung-Fu almost instantly.
