Also, if he does really well, he could be an interesting option to trade at the deadline to someone who needs another starter for the second half.

But what if WE need him down the stretch to make a deep playoff run?

We won't get on base enough to have a deep playoff run so no worries.

I wouldn't worry about that too much....but that would be a good problem to have, if you even consider that a problem.

Ok, I'm ok with this...Vogelsong wasn't that bad last year for the Giants.

Throw a bunch of innings and keep the ERA at 4. Yup sounds like a great 4 or 5 guy.

I think this is a real good signing assuming you pay accordingly. An innings eater who the last three out of four years has put up pretty good numbers. His 2013 season looked rough but I would be more concerned if he didn't rebound with decent numbers in 2014. I think he could be a great innings eater option on the back end of the rotation and maybe even be a surprise.

Rasmus would be fine at 1-year and if the price is right. Might be an attractive player for some teams at the deadline if he stays healthy and produces.

12:55pm: Rasmus is in Houston for a physical, Mark Berman of FOX 26 tweets. Rasmus says that he does not yet have a deal, but notes that the opportunity is "pretty enticing" given his connection with GM Jeff Luhnow, who drafted him with the Cardinals.

Rasmus stats. Not very good...looks like we're bringing in another guy to hit below .250.

Shane... I was thinking in the 4 to 6 million range for Vogelsong... and wondering if they give him a one year deal with maybe an option or maybe they build an incentive latent contract.... Rasmus deal is interesting. They want to hold off on moving Springer to CF... want to develop him a little more... so I could see Rasmus/Marisnek platooning in CF.

**** me, Rasmus is another guy who never walks and strikes out a **** ton.

What about advanced statistics says living and dying by the home run ball is a good idea??

Rasmus is a proven league average and occasional above average outfielder. No guarantee Marisnick can be even that. I look at it as more on an insurance type move. He can start, he can platoon, and he is due for another uptick kind of year. I see nothing wrong. Also gives Santana more time to develop, and doesn't force us to play a 1st basemen/ catcher in the outfield if that starts hindering our performance.

I'm okay with the Rasmus deal. He was eager to get off the artificial turf, so perhaps that will lead to better production and fewer injuries. He also wanted to get back to the south.

He's not an all-star, but he is a known commodity, which is better than what we were looking at after shipping out Fowler. In a sense, we traded Fowler for Rasmus, Straily, and Valbuena.

8 million for Rasmus

8 million seems like a lot just to crowd up the outfield again. This just went against why we traded Dexter

Was it crowded? Springer, likely Gattis and who else?

I'm not gonna lie, I loved Fowler at the top of the lineup. But let go of Fowler and get an upgrade at 3B, about the same production in the OF, and depth at SP for the same price? Yes please.

We were to a point where we couldnt protect enough prospects.Good scouting and development will keep us with a top 10 farm for a long time. The guys that dont fit the team or dont pan out are either traded or released. New guys come in, young guys move up.

We forget what its like to have a pipeline where you dont sweat a player with upside being traded for a team need. And we are still absolutely loaded with the best yet to come (Correa, Moran, Appel, McCullers, Reed, Fisher, Hader, Velasquez, Hernandez, Feliz, Phillips, on and on)

I thought Presley was solid last year, could be wrong. Grossman showed a lot of improvement last year. I probably just want him to succeed since his high school is close to mine
