Rewatching the 2005 18 inning game. Can't believe how loud it was in the juice box. Really hope there will be some decent crowds in there this season

I forgot how crazy that game was. There's been a grand slam, ground rule double, fan interference, and I'm only in the 6th with the braves up 5-1. I still remember watching every single inning of this game many years ago

And there's grand slam #2 of the game. Only 8 innings in, so I have a while to go tonight. Man, this game was a blast to watch.

And who would have thought that Brad Ausmus would he the guy to hit the tying home run in the 9th. That was a fun game

Absolutely greatest game I've ever been to. Even caught a foul ball off the bat of Raul Chavez in the 12th or 13th inning.

They quit selling concessions in the 8th inning and I saw people eating popcorn off the ground in the 17th inning.

Leaving that place was almost as awesome as the game itself, people chanting "We want the Cards!" The street was flooded with people the bus was a freaking party, girls were flashing their assets left and right. The good ole days of Astros baseball!!!!

I have that game along with the 1986 loss to the Mets, Biggio's 3000th hit, and Mike Scott's No-Hitter in my itunes stash. For those that don't know, you can purchase them for $2 or $3 each.

Matt D to try 1st base

quote:
Dominguez, 25, has manned first base just once in 950 games as a professional (2009 with High Class A Jupiter while in the Marlins organization), but manager A.J. Hinch told Dominguez he'd like to see him across the diamond.

Hmmmm...Not sure how this helps his offensive under performance.

Retarded. He's a tremendous defensive 3rd baseman

Might be less stressful for him, and help him at the plate

My top stros games I've attended in person:

Scotty's no/no clincher and kent's walk off in NLCS tie for first.

I was also at the 18 inning game, but as you note the closing of the concessions made it tough for some. That was a Sunday day game, first pitch was noonish? Some of us were hanging pretty hard from the night before. My plan was to pound beers during the game to bring me back to life and then we were headed to grab Mexican food after the game. The last few innings of that game were brutal.

Whaaaat?! These guys better get their sh*t together, because I was completely unaware that their inability to win games on a consistent basis was keeping me from seeing tatas in the parking lot!

mlbtraderumors reporting we are interested in Kevin Correa. Had a 5+ ERA last year, but apparently has a league average ground ball rate.

Not sure how I feel about this. If we get him decently cheap, Im ok with him fighting Peacock, Wojo, and Straily for the fifth spot.

I also just saw the Bud Norris avoided arbitration getting 8.8 million for 1 year. He will be a FA next year. I wonder if Luhnow is thinking about grabbing Bud at 31 years old next year. Could have something like..

Is this what everyone meant when they said Correa would be on the roster this year

Bud didn't have nice things to say about stros after he was traded, be shocked if he returned.

Reid Ryan has said Jeff Bagwell will be a guest hitting instructor at spring training. Bagwell on returning to Astros,"I want to help this organization get back to where it's supposed to be." Ryan also talked to Billy Wagner about being part of the club again. -Per McTaggart.

I'd take Wagner to pitch today over some of the guys we've had recently

His paltry offensive numbers are better than Sjngleton's

I think he sees the writing on the wall that he isn't a starter in the MLB. He can be a valuable late inning defensive replacement at multiple positions instead of a struggling starter at third.

Let's not forget that Matt is only 24 years old, was a coveted prospect, and has only been in the majors for a couple years. Because he was on the Astros, he was a starter well before he should have been. Not saying he's gonna turn into an all-star, but don't give up on him yet.

Anybody have access to ESPN insider? Here is a link that ranks MLB farm systems. Just wanted to see where the Stros are at if anybody has it

3. Houston Astros

It is still strong, but it's now a bit weaker after a slew of promotions last year, their inability to come to an agreement with the first overall pick in the draft, Brady Aiken, and the trade of three prospects, two of them in my 2015 top 100, for Evan Gattis. The Astros' strength is still in bats, followed by a collection of hard throwers who might start but, if not, project as impact relievers.

It's difficult to sustain rivalries when you move leagues -- the Cardinals are a remnant of a decade ago -- but it does help when you've got a division rival in your state. Though fights help too.
Might be the worst list of rivals I've ever seen. WTF wrote this?

My top 3 rivals for the Astros:

1) Cubs (**** THE CUBS)
2) Cardinals
3) Braves
4) Dodgers

This is part of the reason I was so against the move to the AL. The Astros have no rivals over there. No history. It's like we're the Rangers. At least in the NL, we had an identity. Who the effs cares about the A's? I couldn't care one way or the other for them.

Cubs? No no no

It's cards, Braves, Rangers. But it's harder and harder to consider the Braves or even the Cards.
