I immediately thought of Phil's drive on 18 at Winged Foot when he blew his chance. That's how bad I thought the shot was because the shot tracer looked like a C. Then he lands safely in the fairway.

Exactly what I thought of as well. It was that bad of a shot except Phil's bounced off the merch tent and this go around it landed safely on the right side. Of course Phil's second ricocheted off a tree as well. LACC will not be mistaken for winged foot that is for sure.

That was as squirrely of a tee shot on 18 as we've seen in a while from someone leading the final hole in a major, and he ended up being fine.

18 needs to have a much tougher tee shot.

Could you imagine that shot on 18 at Augusta? He'd be lucky to make bogey.

That shot yesterday instantly reminded me of Mito's shot at the PGA on the 72nd hole. In that case (granted, it was a far worse shot) he was penalized adequately.

Since he won, it won't be remembered this way but he was pretty much on tilt those last 4 holes. Two bogies, a bad iron into 17 that he got really lucky to have a decent lie with, and that sliced drive on 18. Without that crazy wide fairway, he probably loses it coming in.
