Was hoping Rory would get the demon off his back there. Good win for Clark.

I was one of the early course "defenders", and I think it did fine from a golf standpoint. But no more than fine. From a atmosphere standpoint though it was atrocious. Hope they never go back! This course looked cool but was not a US Open course. I think the course itself was 30% of the issue…70% was the atmosphere.

I think Thursday's conditions ****ed things up too. Not going to blame them too hard for that but with the rain + pin positions it janked up the rest of the week.

I would love anonymous surveys of all golfers who participate in US Opens every year just to see the shake out. My guess is the majority of the field wasn't happy with this course and atmosphere this weekend.

There were multiple high profile guys already coming out in the last day or 2 saying that this course is not that great, and that the atmosphere sucked. Fitzpatrick and Hovland, for starters.

The rain you can't control. It has been an extremely weird "spring" in California. I think in a normal weather year, you see more of what we saw today.

It moved. The writing is in a slightly different place at the end, and the lie was deliberately improved.

The second wedge bothers me.

Not a Clark homer, was going for RF but I don't see the ball move

Just saw on instagram rickie congratulating Clark. He told him his mom would be really proud if she were here.

Absolute class act. I hope rickie's major is coming, he deserves the hell out of it

Rickie seems to be a genuinely good dude. Too bad he couldn't hang on.

I watched the majority of the tournament but overall it felt very stale. It was obvious they forced LACC into the spotlight when it was undeserving to host the tournament. The lack of atmosphere was evident and sad. The tournament felt very elitist like rich Hollywood type did not want the plebes there to screw up the tournament for them.

With that said I thought the course was pretty boring the way it was set up. There were a couple eagle chances out there but overall everyone was forced to play to the big part of the green and pray that they'd sink a bomb from forty feet. Wasn't many opportunities for them to flag hunt which was sad. However the back 9 played tough and a big number was easily one swing away so it did keep me engaged. I really thought we'd get a playoff, but nope.

The more I hear about the membership buying up tickets the more I think they should never come to this course again. Nice course but nothing really memorable. Much better places they can go, including Riviera right there in LA.

Dan Rappaport indicated that he thinks 2031 could be at Riv

I wonder why the PGA quit taking call ins about rules violations...

It wasn't a great viewing course for patrons, but that should be way down the list of importance anyway. I LOVED watching the course. Multiple unique holes. We see Riviera every year, no need to see it again for a major.

That's always confused me. How does anyone even have a phone number to call? Was there a hotline I'm unaware of? Just never understood how that was even done.

The course grew on me the more I watched.

Golf wise I thought it was a good course. Interesting with lots of nuisances and lots of risk/reward.

It was good watching on tv but I missed the energy of the huge crowd following the leaders. I would prefer it not return to LACC.

I liked the course as well. Course was a little soft early on but I think that was more missing on the forecast than anything. My only complaint is the fairways were too wide; particularly 18. No way Clark should have been in the fairway of the 18th hole of a US Open after that banana drive.
AustinCountyAg

I disagree. Several holes had collection areas in the fairway where it seemed every ball landed and everyone had to play the hole the exact same way. Several of the par 5's were getable but only a handful of players could reach in two and had to get very lucky.

#6 was a great hole in terms of risk reward but to me that was about the only one.

The long par 3's were very boring to me. Either land it short and pray you get a good bounce or scramble for par. Not a ton of birdies where out there on those holes.

The front nine was good, but the back played to where the only way anyone could make ground was if someone had a blow up hole. Not a ton of chances for guys to try and attack flags and make birdies. It was more of hit fairways and aim at center of green and two putt and move on. Kinda boring imo.

I prefer more of the style courses for majors like pebble where if you hit fairways you can attack flags.

The course played more exciting to me on Thursday when guys could fire at flags. You had super low scores, but also plenty of big numbers when guys missed fairways and greens.

Most over-rated hole had to be the short par 3 playing less than 100 yards. All week they talked about crazy bounces if you went at the flag and nothing ever happened. And I'm tried of overly long par 3's as well. Let's put a 6-7 iron in these guys hands and see who really is the best.

Agree with most of the above points. #6 was a cool hole. I also liked the mix of bermuda, fescue, and bunker style as trouble areas. On the downside, some fairways were too wide while others had collection points that made the drive accuracy almost moot. Didn't care for most of the par 3's and 5's. Overall, didn't hate the course but wasn't a fan either

What will be interesting is many won't like Pinehurst No2 next year either. After the redo, it was somewhat controversial in 2014 and a fairly low score won it. No real rough, mostly waste area golf for misses

well we should be good for a while:

2024: Pinehurst
2025: Oakmont
2026: Shinnecock
2027: Pebble Beach
2028: Winged Foot
2029: Pinehurst
2030: Merion
2031: ???
2023: Pebble Beach
2033: Oakmont
2034: Oakland Hills

Good point about the grass around the bunkers. I liked that too. Saw several guys hit under their ball trying to hack out.

Pristine bunkers that allow players to not even worry about tough shots because of how easy the bunker shot will be if they miss the target is extremely annoying to me, so I'm all for any setup with bunkers/waste areas that are actually penal.

These guys have gotten so good and long, I'm not sure what the answer for par 3s is when there's no wind. That seems to be the only thing that really gives them problems.

I don't think there needs to be an "answer". They are the best in the world. They should be able to attack par 3's with relative ease.

I like how LACC had the waste areas around the greens which seem to be way more penal and provide much more difficulty compared to the normal pristine bunkers. I wish more courses would do that.

But the idea that they need to have multiple pair 3's around 300yds like they did this week was stupid. Especially with firm greens.

If there were ever a course that needed Mike Davis for the week, LACC was probably it. Maybe he makes one of the long par 3s a risk/reward par 4, or extends 17/18 to a par 5 with narrowed fairways.

LACC had/has potential, but unfortunately it just didn't really deliver over the weekend, but that's also on the players.

Only defense for these guys on Par 3s is the rough. Make them 185-225 and remove the fringe. Make it putting surface or long, gnarly rough.

Take out Thursday....if the course played 4 rounds like Fri-Sun, the winner would have been around -5 which is fine for a US Open.

Agree on 18.

That was as squirrely of a tee shot on 18 as we've seen in a while from someone leading the final hole in a major, and he ended up being fine.

18 needs to have a much tougher tee shot.

Could you imagine that shot on 18 at Augusta? He'd be lucky to make bogey.
