Fair enough. I don't think it's recency bias though I admit I'm of his era so maybe there is a little. What he's done the last 2 years has pushed him into a new stratosphere and I don't see him stopping now. I see him finishing with 9 or 10 majors and one of the most well rounded golfers of all time. But if I'm wrong so be it.

Most important golfer of all time: Arnold Palmer. It is hard to compare across different generations, but my Top 5 golfers of all time: Jack, Tiger, Hogan, Player and Jones.

Good list Abbott. Jones is frequently missed but he belongs there.

I can't disagree. Next up is probably Arnie.

Then there's a second tier that I think includes Arnie, Watson, Mickelson, Snead, Trevino, Faldo, and I think Rory as well.

Third tier is probably Norman, Seve, Scottie, etc.

I think Scottie will end up in the second tier shortly as well with a chance for both him and Rory to get to that top tier.

Hard to talk about Bobby Jones in a category with anyone else as he was just so different (and so long ago). I probably include Sarazen, Hagen, and Byron with him as a standalone best "non-modern" category. I can't even judge as I never saw any of them play.

I watched via streaming the Master app cast to my TV. I don't think I saw a single shot from the Reed/Cantlay group. Not a big deal, but seemed odd. I thought the masters app cast was the same as CBS

Reed/Morikawa and Cantlay/Henley pairings got many shots on TV most by Henley and then Morikawa on the back nine

I think those are all valid reasons

If you want to talk about the most influential golfers of all time I say Jones, Palmer, and Tiger. Each of them substantially raised the ceiling for the sport and laid the foundation for the one that came next. I'm not enough of a historian to say who comes earlier. Maybe collectively the Great Triumvirate that was dominating golf around 1900. That probably coincides with when The Open turned into a public spectacle instead of basically a club championship.

Bobby Jones grand slam was 30 years later in 1930
Arnold Palmer's first Masters was 28 years later in 1958
Tiger's Masters win was 29 years later in 1997

Guess we are due for some other big thing.
